You may want to call the RSAS (Student Affairs Office) if you don't get an answer on this forum. Call the main UNE at Biddeford number and ask for student affairs.

Hey, We actually ended on 18 May 2007.
I wouldn't bank on a similar time frame for next year since your curriculum is most likely going to be different from what we had this year. As Wook stated, if you really really need to know about next summer already, contact the RSAS office. You haven't even started yet? Whats the deal with needing to know about when you end next year eh? 😛

Thanks onstarr. But I was wondering about start and end dates for our break between MSI and MSII, i.e. summer 2008.

We usually start the first week of August. This year: 06 August (MS2's start classes, MS1's start orientation).
You can bank on next year being around the 04 August start time.

According to the calendar on my.une.edu:

COM MSI classes end 5/16/2008 (this may or may not include your exam week - I suspect it does however. Our "end of classes" date this year was the date of our last exam).

there is no listed date for beginning of MSII classes in August 2008 as of today. Generally it's around 8/8 or 8/10. Looking at the calendar, it may even be 8/4/08 (the first full week of August).

As wook suggested, RSAS may have more information than is online.

Hey all. Hope that everyone is doing well. Is anyone else having trouble finding a place to live for August? My roommates and I are set from September till June, but August we are homeless. Anyone interested in trying to find a big house and all crash together? Or a small house and a few crash together? Or just maybe a couch?

Just wondering how everyone else is doing? Let me know. Oh, and if anyone is ever in NH, definitely drop me a line. I am in the Lakes Region and am always in Concord or Manchester. Would be awesome to meet a few future classmates. Take care all.

It was a combination of running around her room, taking stuff, throwing it back to her, doing the "tickle/hit and run" technique, and the occassional grasshopper. The threat of physical violence, well, she just fights back. She did get her black belt in Jeet Kune Do. My son only has a brown belt. So while he hits harder, she's sneakier and better with weapons. She's also better at submission holds.

And the bug thing doesn't freak her out -- this is the girl who took her first purse and filled it with those "rolly-polly" bugs from the West (haven't seen any here in Maine yet - they roll up into little black balls with an exoskeleton when they're frightened). She was pretty upset I told her they were absolutely NOT allowed to live in her bedroom in her purse. Worms? Nah. She's got no problems throwing a worm on a hook all by herself and tossin' a line into a creek.

So he's forced into the pure annoyance form of torture. Which of course means I have to corral him and force him into the "sit on the couch and don't touch anything" form of torture.

*sigh*. i miss being a kid. It was so much fun.

I have a question. I have my Hep B vaccine titer records, but my vaccine records have mysteriously vanished. Has this happened to anyone, and is the titer acceptable?

Thanks!

I have an answer to that one. I was told that some places "need dates for the initial series" and "to approximate the dates would be fine -- just put something down." So you need the titer paperwork as proof your vaccination series took, but the dates can be, um, fudged a bit.

Has anyone taken the CAT from Portland to Nova Scotia? Whats the trip over like? And was Yarmouth any fun??

Why am I so interested in the dates for next summer? I am trying to plan my wedding.... 😀
But back to this year, is there anyone out there who still needs a place to live?

I'd plan for a late June or early July wedding. That would be safe, and give you time for a relaxing honeymoon before school starts the first week of August. Plus, if they extend school a few weeks it will still give you a couple of weeks before the wedding to just do wedding stuff and not try to do that *and* school.

I remember running around like an idiot the two or three weeks before my wedding tying up loose ends, fittings, flowers, cakes, decorations, paying for everything under the sun, RSVPs, reception counts.... Ah, memories. You definitely do NOT want to be doing all that and studying for finals.

congrats on the impending nuptials!!

Hey gang,

I have one room left to rent at my house in Biddeford just 3 miles from the school (81 Clifford Street, right off Pool Road).

If anyone is interested, email me at [email protected] and I can answer any and all questions.

Hope you're all enjoying your summer,

Romeo

Better yet.. I can get even with you by saying I passed or High passed even without showing up for class.

Hi everyone! I'm new to SDN and I'll be in UNECOM's class of 2011! I still haven't found a place to live though. Is anyone else still looking?

I'll raise you one...I don't have to take any more classes, course I did finish the curriculum last year. Come to think of it, someone recently told me I don't have class, but I guess that's for another thread.

hey everyone it seems like my.une.edu is working..

go check it out

i should really start looking for housing soon.

[LDAP: error code 49 - Invalid Credentials]

This is what I get when I try to log into myUNE, same message even in mozilla firefox. I haven't even started semester and already my credentials are in question.

Onstar if your just going to look for housing, I recommend you go with a roomate picked out, not too many places around with 1 bedroom apartment, but there's plenty of renting 1 room inside a house with owner/strangers available.

I got the same error code at first
but are you using your birthday as your password? 6 digits. mo/dy/yr
dont use the password that une gave u.. u have to use your bday as ur initial login.

as for the housing I plan to live w/ housemate(s).. i have been delaying bc i am waitlisted in pcom and do not want to screw anyone over by making arrangements then backing out at the last minute. If I dont hear back from them by July i'll finalize here as originally planned.
Thanks for the heads up man. Appreciate it.

I typed in my SS# and DOB and it told me what my username and PRN#. Then when I try the default MMDDYY password I get that error message. I even tried DDMMYY, YYDDMM, YYDDMM, MMYYDD, and DDYYMM. None of them work, I'll call them on moday, hopefully its just a clerical error and I wasn't kicked out of the school for some odd reason. Wouldn't that suck, get accepted, lease apartment, then find out your expelled before even attending class. Don't worry I'm not worried, I know people who know people, whatever that means.

Hi All,

If anyone is around Biddo/Saco for the summer- a great yoga studio/trainer just set up shop in the renovated mill on Main St. Biddo.

Her site w/schedule is:

http://www.theyogagym.com/

and she has a special going: $45 for unlimited classes for your first month or if you're a student.

Also- the Mill has a great little coffee shop- The Union House Cafe- which is owned by a MS2 and his lovely wife.

Ive also seen jijitsu and karate classes in the mill but can't personally comment on the instructors.

I can say that Carissa who owns the yoga studio is absolutely awesome and thanks to her- my ass has tightened significantly in the past few weeks and I can touch my nose to my knees again- pre med school state! yey! (I've heard rumors - these changes are happening to other folks too.)

Anyway- congrats to all newbies accepted to UNECOM!!

kelaskov-

thank you so much for the update... not to sound to boulder-like (boulder colorado that is) but thank freakin god there will be a yoga study near by. My girlfriend and I are mourning the loss of our favorite two studios here and I thought I was going to have to drive to portland everyday-which made me wonder if I should of renting there instead of biddeford. Very excited about the coffee shop as well... I was thinking I was going to have only dunkin donuts and targets near buy-I love small independent upstarts...

thanks for brightening my day...my g-friend will love the news!

dave

That is great about the yoga! I live in POrtland, but it'll be easier to have the yoga near school. Maybe I can catch a lunchtime class a few times. coffee is also key.

Also, I timed the Portland drive, if it's helpful to anyone. With no traffic, it was about 25-30min door to door. For me, that's my usual min. commute, so not too horrible.

Greetings fellow 2011 classmates and other UNECOMers!
I have been thinking about my housing here in Saco and I am considering downsizing to save a little money. We have also been thinking that a roommate might help in that endeavor. Anyone interested would need to know that I have a finance and a beautiful 4 year old girl. We have seen that there may be some good options for 4 bedrooms out there. That would leave possibly one guest room (ideally a study room) or possibly another room to rent. If you were seriously interested and we haven't found a place by August you could move in with us in our place in Saco until we find something else. It is very spacious but only a two bedroom. Currently the sun room and basically a large living room with a bathroom on the first floor are mostly unused. We primarily live on the second level with the bedrooms, kitchen and a combined dining and living area. We also have a two car garage. This might also be a place for someone to consider as a bridge through August.

Drop a note if you have any ideas or are at all interested. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm not on track to get everything done this summer before class starts. Work, work...😎

Warm regards,
Jas

Hey guys. The my.une.edu site is working. If you get the error code that your credentials are wrong, all you need to do is call the help desk and ask them to reset your password. Hope this helps some people out.

Also, there is a ju jitsu studio in that same Mill Building as the Yoga and Coffee shop. Anyone interested in taking a class? I have never done it before but have studied some martial arts on my own. Let me know.
-Rob

Rob, the ju jitsu studio there is pretty good. No frills. Marcus Davis works out there sometimes a bit before fights (if you're into MMA). The owner is a heck of a nice guy. Definitely NOT an ego-trippin' kind of place. Hollis has an MMA place I hear - we have to go check that out this summer. I don't take martial arts myself (joint injuries), but my kids and husband did back in CO. I'll let you know about the one in Hollis.

WHERE THE HELL are all the real men.. the ones that don't do Yoga and that aren't into flowers... and those who don't take pictures with their shirt off and post it on Facebook.. anyone know who I am talking about??!!??

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if any of you live in OOB or near there. If so, would you recommend it. My concern is that it would be too far. Pros/Cons to living a little further away from campus???
Thanks,
Mark

I've never tried yoga, doc bill. I'd be too scared of being in some awkward position and ripping serious ass in front of a whole class. It just looks like there are some positions that would force one out, ya know? Even if you weren't expecting it.

I lived and worked in OOB for my last year of college, and my first year of med school at UNE. The drive is about 15 mins from where I was... but it was a nice place to live. There are some nice areas, and some not so nice areas. Just look before you rent... dont sign anything "over the phone."

Thanks for mentioning the coffee shop, I have noticed shops setting up back there but hadn't stopped in to check it out until yesterday. It is very nice, cool vibe and very chill... also looks like free wireless!

Have been playing tennis... could use some pointers from a more experienced player. If your in town and interested let me know we could also do doubles. Also could use a golf buddy...

I may check out the Yoga... still have many unused passes at the Portland Power Yoga studio - I like the heat. And for the record I don't think I have felt much more manly than after an hour and a half session in a room that is basically a sauna. Those intense sessions trumped anything I did in the testosterone driven days of Army boot camp.

Cheers,
~Jas

Whats your NTRP, mine is 3.0-4.0 depending on how much practice I've had before someone rates me. I don't know if that makes me more experienced than you or not, but regardless, I'll PM you my contact info sometime in July, that's when I'll be in maine next time.

There is a place with 2 tennis courts when driving to unecom along the road, seems like its opened to anyone, I hope.

I'll pass on yoga, I did it for 4yrs back in high school. If you guys are gonna join, let me know what you think, depening on the instructor you could be in for quite a sweat.

jujitsu seems really cool, I've never had any martial arts training, seems like something useful to know, I just hope I don't end up sparing with Marcus Davis of all people, but if I do, someone please place sticker with word "FRAGILE" and "THIS SIDE UP".

Marcus is not a regular client - he usually trains more up north. But when he comes down, he's rather focused on preparing for his upcoming fights and spars with the most experienced at the gym on his own schedule. He is very interesting to watch, however. Just don't blink or you'll miss the end of the fight.

Hey y'all-
I just graduated and really don't want to lug a ton of study books and board review texts to my new domicile.
I am in Portland.

It is gone in 48 hours. PM if you want it.
Congrats and piece in.

Shy, thanks for the info. Do you think that we would realistically have time to get in a class or two during the week. or are we going to be too busy? How is your summer going? Working hard on the house? I would love to get to meet you before school starts, so if there is a time that is better for you, let me know. Take care.
-Rob

Rob, I think a lot of that depends on you. I know folks who didn't even have time to do regular grocery shopping for just themselves (and still just barely squeaked by), a few others who had time to go to the gym for 2 hours a day EVERY DAY. Myself, I made time to be mom and wife before studying. Had I been single, I think I would have had time to actually study enough to high pass most classes AND take at least 3-4 classes a week. So it really depends on you, how well you adjust to the volume of information, how well you retain information, how much you need to study, your lifestyle, etc.

The really scary thing is, I really got used to listening to mp3 lectures at 2-2.5 speed. Regular speed was just too stinkin' slow. My husband just shook his head at me; you really can't imagine the speed at which you will be expected to assimilate information until you get into it.

Summer is good, need to order lumber now that we're back from Colorado. Grass is growing where we buried drainage pipes, we're building a retaining wall for the dirt around the ditch and painting the back deck. Crunching numbers to see if the furnace will support another heating zone, should we put in european hot water systems for the bathrooms, looking at whirlpool tubs, floor/wall tile, maple hardwood flooring, shower doors. Think we'll put in a subpanel for the electrical rather than run wire from the original panel (which is on the other side of the house). Wanna rip out the carpet on the stairs and the second floor and put hardwood there too. Went to Home Depot and came home with $500 worth of Behr paint on Memorial Day weekend (there was a sale) so we can paint the entire inside of the house (boy does it need it). Gotta call the lumberyard this week or next for delivery date estimates.

Lemme know when you're in town. We'll meet somewhere for coffee.

Hey! Cool. My fiance seems to think I'm a pretty solid 3.0 with some of the 4.0 elements (she is a former HS tennis star). I would venture to say you will be a little more advanced but not so much that you wouldn't enjoy a game or two. There are two open courts across from my house in Saco so that is also an option.
Let me know when you are in town! How is your summer going and your COM prep?

I met a graduating COM student to pick up those study books yesterday. Very nice guy, heading to VA for an EM residency. He had some interesting insight into the future of EM...

Agreed!! 👍

And the amount of information will be the fire hydrant effect. It will be like drinking out of a hydrant (me I wore depends to try and catch as much information that kept falling out of me).
