Just an update from the AMA interim meeting. Despite being extracted initially, a resolution on supporting the unification of GME match process passed the AMA-MSS making it internal policy of the AMA-MSS to support a unified match

What does this mean? Is that a good thing?

Is it in support of a unified match or unified GME? Either way, I think this is tentatively a good development.

Inb4 Med students don't matter, AOA DGAF, and RVU is a crap school.
Wtf?

NurWollen, I believe technically the match, but possibly both. I'm not at the interim meeting, it was sent to my by the friend who authored the resolution. I haven't yet seen the final wording. Yes, it is a good thing, especially for DO students.

It really doesn't matter. The decision making process is far beyond the influence of the AMA-MSS.

So now its just a matter of the AOA agreeing to a unification? Isn't that the same as before?

The AMA-MSS has zero direct power, obviously folks. You all are missing the point. It's bringing the issue more attention and it's a positive development. The more institutions that get behind the merger, the more political pressure that develops, the less chance the family practice DO group has of continuing to block the merger.

Well worded.

It's great to have the AMA publicly supporting the policy.

Unified GME means that a lot of people will lose their cushy jobs, since you cannot have 2 Presidents, 2 Treasures etc
There will be lots of push-back from the DO organisations

Which will lead to the demise of the AOA...

I like being a DO student, but in light of recent actions, it is obvious that the AOA is an unsustainable organization. If the organization wants to survive the decade, they need to reconsider their decision and get on board with a unified GME.
