does anyone remember when univ of colorado sends out its acceptances/waitlists/rejects for people who interviewed? i remember it's some time in march, but not sure which part of the month.

great, my bday is march 17th 😡 let's hope its an acceptance! anyway, i guess this is addressed to pevious applicants at the univ of colorado. what is the movement like on the waitlist? the way cu works is that they accept a certain amount of people, then put the majority of the other interviewees on three separate waitlists (top, middle, bottom). does anyone know how many people tend to move into the acceptance category from the waitlists? i am in state, so that might change something. thanks for the help.
My interview ran over and I missed what the Dean said about admit policies/chances once you get an interview and are instate. Does anyone mind giving me a recap? (all I caught was the waitlist tier talk by Sean S.)

I'd be really interested in this as well, if anybody knows. I remember the Dean saying that they'll probably accept about 250 students to fill the class of 132, and that instates get preference, but that's about it.
Last year, Dr. Sondheimer said that there are 30 people in each tier of the waitlist and they usually get through about the top half of the second tier. The accept/waitlist/reject decisions go out at the end of March- I think they said March 25th. March 15th is the last interview date. Also, I think that what they said about only accepting the very exceptional students right after the interview is not really true. From my experience last year, I'd bet that more than half of the people who were accepted found out within two weeks of their interviews. BoulderLABrat and Snapdad- do you have any specific questions about admission?
I think it's possible that they only say that they accept the very top interviewees because they don't want their office to be innundated w/ phone calls asking about status. I know a lot of people that got in right away whose stats were good, but by no means stellar. According to the premed advisor at CU, they accept about half of the class right away. They take ~12 per month. If you think about that- it's around 60-70 people or so. Maybe it's different this year, but I don't think so. As for the March 15th notification date, it might happen on time, but last year they said March 15th and we didn't hear anything until the 25th or 26th. And, I'm pretty sure Sean Spellman said the 25th when I went in to ask him. If it's earlier, great! Just don't get your hopes up too much- that's all.

I don't know how many people get in off the waitlist, but I did have a friend who got in last summer on the 4th day of orientation week in August. They called him up to say someone had dropped out and he should show up the next morning at 9.
So, never give up, and by all means let them know if you can drop everything and show up at the last minute.

Exactly. I know someone that experienced something similar. A couple of things: I think carrie198 is probably right for the most part. Sean said March 15th when I interviewed there, but at the same time, it's reasonable that they may get backlogged and not actually send out anything until a week or so later. The probable reason for the March 15th date is that it's the date by which the AAMC "recommends" that medical schools send out enough acceptances to fill their stated class size.
The thing to remember is that yes, CU probably has sent out enough acceptances to fill half their class during the interview months. Chances are, though, that these applicants will have other acceptances as well, and probably some to places like Harvard, Hopkins, etc., so they may not all end up going to CU. The same goes for others who receive acceptances on (or around) March 15th. I am still waiting for an interview at CU. What are my chances of actually getting one this late? Every time I call they tell me my application is still under reivew.
They are not really rolling...you get an score from interview + app and then that score ranks you...then you get an admit/tier 1 wait, 2, and 3, or a rejection depending on rank. So there is no real disadvantage. so congrats and welcome to the throng of nailbiters... woohoo!

it stated that decisions would be out BY mar. 25. i wonder if that means we could hear earlier???

It is good to hear that CU is making their decision sooner this year! Last year I had to wait into April only to be rejected. Luckily this year I got into CU back in December. Hopefully I will see you all in August 😎

Last year we heard the first week of April (I think it was about April 6 but I would have to look it up to be sure). They told us in our interviews that we would hear Mar 15 last year and never let us know that it changed. It got quite stressfull with everyday not receiving the email. At least this year they are emailing to let you guys know what is going on.
It looks like I'll be going to CU as well. Does anybody if CU give out a lot of scholarships?
I'll be living in my parents' basement. It sucks but at least I'll save $500 a month. Besides, who have time to do laundry and cook while in medical school? 😀

I will be definitely going to CU as well. As far as living arrangements I will probably be living down in Englewood. However, the CU website has a housing connection list @ http://www.uchsc.edu/stuasst/ . . . not sure about scholarships. Is anyone going to the preorientation mtg in April?
Thanks a lot for the student assistance link! Does anyone else feel like CU's website is extremely difficult to navigate?! Hopefully that will change soon. I will be at the preorientation on 4/30. I don't know how beneficial it will be, but it's better than going to work!

Yeah, the CU website is extremely difficult. What I do is go to the Student Links section under the school of medicine and start looking from there. I really wish they would make it easier. I will be there on 4/30 as well, it is much better than work!

if i ever get off the damn waitlists at Cincy and Ohio St. i'd probably go there mainly b/c CU's selection factors suck. i hate how they look for students who "fit a certain profile." for example: those who are not straight out of college (remember when Dr. Sondheimer said 28 out of 132 were straight out of undergrad?). i know of several people who were more than qualified (numbers-wise) to attend CU but got rejected b/c of this.
but... what can you do? their students obviously do well so who can argue with their admissions process. 😛
all i know is this: if only 28 out of 132 acceptances were straight out of undergrad, then cu is severely flawed. is it just me or do you guys find that statistic absolutely absurd? i know they tend to like older applicants, but i didn't realize it was that bad. it makes me that much more worried 😕

Personally, I find it reassuring that 3/4 of the class will have had some life experience beyond being a high school or college student. I would want my doctor to know something about the real world.
Well, crapola. I didn't get in. I just got the e-mail. This sucks mightily. Mightily badly. I hate CU now, horrible place, wouldn't recomend it to a mentally challenged idiot named Chet. I'd rather go get blown away by hurricanes at a Caribbean school than go to CU. Screw them! ARRRRRGGGHHHHHHHH!

lukeday99 you should check your email again, because I was waitlisted in the middle third, then got another "corrected" email saying I was on the bottom third. Maybe they made other mistakes as well.
