The way things have gone for the UMN program is very unfortunate I think. First they advertised that they have about 10 seats and now 4 to 6 ( they are still not sure about that), out of which one was awarded before the program got its recognition. Then they rejected people with 89 and 91 scores. I have been told that they have interviewed MN residents (not very sure) with scores in early 80s; they should have informed any such intentions before applications. If they are neither looking for scores nor dental exp. then what they are looking for Photographs??
I am glad that I cancelled my interview and saved money. I hope they have decided the curiculum and the most deserving candidates will get those 3 or 5 seats.

While exp is an issue, they asked me lot's of Q's about my work, what areas did I enjoy and which area I think that I would like to improve on and etc...

Second, you insinuating that they only interview or accept Mn resident with low score ( which is false) is hurtful to thoes worthy applicants. And mind you thou that they accepted so far a Non Mn residents. But no Mn residents was accepted.

Finally, Me too I hope only the deserving candidates will get the few remaining seats.

It's easy for you to sit there and make comments like you're glad that you've cancelled your interview with UMN and saved some money because you've been accepted elsewhere. However, for a lot of people who just really, really want to get in (myself being one of them), the 4-6 seats that they offer (even though very small compared to other schools) give a lot of hope to many of us.

UMN never said they would take on 10. They've always said LESS THAN 10. So 4 or 6 seats (even though, very small) are still less than 10. I was quite surprised to hear of the number too but I guess this is their first year having the program and so they may think that 4 or 6 is a good number.

I was told by Janet that they do not give preference to MN residents. With that being said, the MN residents who got an interview may have had something that made them stand out from the rest of the applicant pool. It may not be their Part I scores (I was also told that they'd look at the "whole package" and not just one's score and things like one's attitude, how one portrays oneself matter too) but maybe something else such as good personal qualities/life experiences which would make them suitable for the program and good dentists. Having a good/excellent score on the Boards doesn't necessarily make a candidate a good dentist in the future. However, a lot of the schools use the scores as a strong criterion, but UMN doesn't seem to operate on that "policy" too much, which is fine. After all, it's their school, and so they can do whatever they want, right? I'm sure with Dr. Berthold's years and years of experience, they will pick out the most suitable students for their program.

All I can say is that I am very grateful that they have a PASS program which allows everyone to apply instead of the certificate program where they would only consider MN residents.

My commets were not a reply to your post but an opinion, and I dont even know if you are a MN resident and I am not saying about being accepted in the program. And I guess it would hurt if someone with lower scores get a call for interview, leave acceptance, again nothing personal to that.

I am with Maria, there gonna be one more batch. I believe they just going to wait untill all the applications is in and do one last interview session.

I pray that they answer quickly since the classes is going to start this May,16 - so for all thoes who will have to prepare for move would have enough time to do so..

Don't worry if the people (hopefully, you and I will be two of the very lucky ones 🙂) who get accepted don't have enough time to find a place to live, then we could all temporarily stay at your place (since there will be only 4-6 of us), right?.. since you live in Minnesota and you seem to be a very nice person?......just kidding . Yeah, seriously, I do hope they'll call the last batch very very soon for interviews and then send out acceptance letters or rejection letters....whatever they have to send. I just sent my application 2 days ago and now I'm quite anxiously waiting. I guess I just want to know of the result, whether it's good or bad.

UMN allots a few seats (probably half) on a rolling basis. So when Berthod said "who have not yet heard from them" I think he was refering to those who were alloted seats on a rolling basis.

rollling basis is first come first served. If you see the UMN web site they mention that a few seats will be filled on a rolling basis, and the remaining seats will be filled after the deadline for applications

I spoke with Janet on Friday. She said that they have finished conducting all the interviews 😱 and are in the process of sending out letters (I presume letters of acceptance, rejections, alternate list etc). So if there is anybody who didn't get invited for an interview, like myself 🙁 , then it just means a flat out rejection. I'm waiting for my letter of rejection to make it official 🙄 . Oh well, life goes on, I guess. She said they received 350 applications for less than 10 spots....so imagine the super, duper competition!!!

Why don't you or anybody call them up and find out, if you're or anybody else is so anxious about the result?. They should have the acceptance list by now. That's what I did on Friday. I just hated waiting, not that I'm a very impatient person but I thought they should know the accepted and the rejected ones by now since classes will be starting soon. I'd rather call them up and find out, even if it's bad news like what I got.
