If that happens, I won't have to worry about the 3 tests I have this week and the fact that I have missed the last week and a half of classes (actually, almost 2 full weeks) to travel around the country for interviews... 😱

I called UWSOM this morning because I didnt want to wait for the website to change... They did meet last friday (20th) but no change of status for me. I got a confirmation saying that the next EXCOM meeting date would be on the 3rd of Feb.

You know what is also funny? When the nice lady told me to wait after I gave her my AMCAS #, I felt like a hummingbird on speed. Yes, my heart was racing that fast! Oh gosh, Lets hope Feburary is indeed the month of LOVE. 😍 😍 😍

I called and the lady said my status had "definitely not changed." 🙁

Amen to that! I'm trying to get my family enthused about moving to Ohio because I'm feeling less and less hopeful about staying here.... 👎
I keep going over my interview thinking that I must have said something dreadfully wrong....

So you guys all had the unusually large tray in front of you with doily with cookies sparsely place, but seemingly delibrately/strategically placed? I thought that was strange. I didn't eat any because I didn't want to disturb the pattern.

My interview experience at UWSOM! A true story.

You know what really psyched me out??? On my gold tin cookie tray with what it seemed paper doilies there were 10 grasshoppers (those keebler mint chocolate chip cookies that are real good), and 10 spritz cookies (they taste like ass in my opinion). And then there was one cookie in the middle... It was like a classy cookie. It was a white cookie with raspberry filling in the middle. My friends told me that their cookie tray was all chocochip cookies. Maybe their oven broke? I remember this clearly because they offered me to take some cookies, but I didnt take any. I seriously didnt take any cookies, because my mouth was dry (because I was really tense and stressed out at the moment).

Then I ask for water, and proceed to drink it, but all the while I had water dripping down my chin. Luckily nobody saw that. And What also made my interview i nteresting was that, during the middle I put my hands in my lap (because I didnt want to show my trembling/fidgity hands) and noticed that my fly was open and I was in the middle of answering my "why do you want to be a doctor" question. 😱

Hopefully nobody was taking a peek. By that time I drank all my water (I swear they poured me maybe 50mL of water!) and wanted more but didnt ask for more because the water dispenser in the room was far out of reach from the interviewers and I didnt want to break the rythym and flow. I did manage to make them laugh 👍 2X. They were seriously laughing, and I was wondering... you know what... people never really laugh at my humor. I wonder if this is real so I started pinching myself and the EXCOM interviewer said wow, this is getting too late. My interview lasted 55 mins.

I went out of the interview room, and meet some people who interviewed prior to me, and we all gushed about how this experience was nice, un-fun, and secretly hoped that we would all be classmates. And I grabbed some more water in that small interview room. I bypassed the cookies again.

The most scariest part... Find out that my fly was open the whole time when I was at the lunch and beginning of my interview. The cookies threw me for a loop too.

Here is to Feb 3rd people!!! 👍 (NEXT EXCOM meeting for WA Residents!)

hahah! What a story. I had the rasberry filling cookie too. I really wanted to eat it, but it was in the middle and the only one so I didn't. I can't believe your interview was SO LONG! That's a great thing! I think they managed to ask me more questions in 35 minutes than I had at my other two interviews combined! But somehow, I still managed to leave with the feeling that I didn't tell them anything about me at all.

That's why I felt I had to eat ALL if I was to eat one....
But really, I joked with the interviewers that rumors had been spread about the connection between accepting a cookie and being accepted to the school. My interviewer told me that actually it was about WHICH cookie I chose. I know he was joking, but they were so well placed that it was only sort of funny.
My goodness this process makes us neurotic!

Sorry to change the topic from cookies to the loooooong, frustrating admissions process, but do you guys know if anyone was accepted to UWSOM after this last meeting? Also, anyone have any idea as to the # of students who have already been accepted and the # of spots still available?

I hear the EXCOM meetings are very very heated. This is what my friend tells me (hes a first yr, and knows some people). Much of the EXCOM isnt seeing Eye to eye on alot the applicants. 🙁

They say that right after the holiday break, there is a huge bolus of acceptances because by that time, UW has interviewed more than half of the interview pool, and so it has a good idea of the caliber of students that are applying this year, and at this point, they really try to fill the class as soon as possible, to "get it over with." I don't know how true this is-- my dad may have told me this just to make me feel better because if this is true, there's a slight advantage to interviewing earlier, before x-mas break.

All Day I Dream About [med] School

Out of curiosity, how many of you have been offered a spot elsewhere at this point, but are still very anxious? Where will you go if you are not offered a seat at UW?

For me its either UW or Western U/COMP (DO). I am really hoping UW will get back to me before the final EXCOM meetings, because COMP wants a $1000 deposit on March 15th!

I am happy to hear this, it says to me there is a dynamic group of people making the decisions. It reassures me that the class will be a varied group of people, that there is not one single party line with respect to UW's view of who can be a great physician.

I've been accepted at University of Missouri-- but I really really want to go to UW. My boyfriend goes to WashU, and so he's secretly hoping I don't get into UW because he knows I will choose UW over MU, even if it means we'll be apart for 2 years, but he also wants to come to the pacific NW (he's a cyclist and was drooling over the beautiful and steep roads). I hope I won't have to wait too long for results-- I want to make summer moving plans already!

Oh no. Absolutely not! Just not holding on to too much hope. After waiting all last year through the pool and the unranked list and talking to Dr. Samson, I came to see that there are far more qualified applicants than places in the class, so I will hope for the best but try to stay realistic about where I may end up.

I was accepted to Loma Linda a week ago 😀 😀 (interviewed a few weeks ago). I interviewed at 3 other schools a couple of weeks ago as well and withdrew from 2 more interviews after the Loma Linda acceptance. I'm pretty sure that's where I'll be if the UW decides they don't love me... LLU was such a nice, friendly school! But like you, I'm still very anxious about UW!! Lived in Seattle my whole life and part of me just doesn't want to leave... 🙁
