Does anybody know how many acceptances they've given out thus far?

I talked to Brooke, (the nice lady on the phone at UWSOM) and she told me that the online status will change immediately on the day after the EXCOM meeting if "Final Action has been taken".

I forgot to ask her if she could disclose how many people had acceptances. Oh well, maybe next time.

Forgot to add... The NEXT WA STATE EXCOM Meeting is: Feb 15th. Hopefully there will still be some love left over for us after Valentines Day! 😍

I TRULY HOPE SO. I'm so sick of swimming in this competitive pool after three months of waiting. NO MORE WAITING AFTER feb 15 PLEASE

Anyone else at Mini-Med? I'm so in love with UW. 😍

Did anyone get an Email from Diane Noecker about UWSOM Financial Aid?

I got kinda excited about that email, but it said in the subject line...
"E2006 Prospective/Admitted UW SOM - Financial Aid " So much for the excitement, no?

I also did not get this...

I got this email at 6:32PM (PST) Feb 8th, 2006, according to Gmail's clock.

My email comes from the UW (WebPine) and then is forwarded to gmail.

i got it too. i just assumed it was sent out to all interviewed applicants though... was this not the case?

I didn't get that email either...Are you certain you haven't been accepted, and are just getting the financial aid email before you get the acceptance letter via snail mail? "Prospective/admitted" could be interpretted as "offered admission/accepted offer."

I received the email even though no final decision has been made on my application (according to the status check website), so I do NOT think the email was sent only to those offered admission.

I also received the email last night. I remember on the interview day, the financial aid officer told us we had to email the financial aid office with our contact info soon after the interview. So maybe only people who went ahead and emailed them with their information are on the list to receive emails....maybe not.

she said in the email that it was sent out to everyone who had an email on file.

but come to think of it, I don't think I ever sent them my info afterwards. I interviewed the monday of thanksgiving week, so after I went home I just completely forgot about it!

I never submitted any information to the financial aid office. I dont even remember the fin aid officers telling us to email them our info... Ooooh the interview such a distant memory....

This is quite interesting...

Okay, so I actually got two emails. Here is the first one:
-------
This email is being sent to the prospective and/or admitted E2006 U of
Washington medical students (at least those that we have email
addresses for). If you will not be attending the University of
Washington, due to being denied admission or accepting admission at
another school, please let me know and I will remove you from this list.
The UW SOM Financial Aid Office serves as a liason between the medical
students and the main UW Financial Aid Office. My name is Diane Noecker
and I am the Financial Aid Officer. Bobbi Nutzmann is the Program
Coordinator for this office ([email protected]). She and I will be
sending various messages regarding deadlines, forms availability and
scholarships (scholarship applications are usually only sent to admitted
students due to limited supply of applications).
--------

i think it's pretty clear that they sent this out to everyone who's got an email on file-- in fact, it may have even been sent to people who've been rejected.

during my visit, some of the students mentioned an option to take histology over the summer before the first year. Does anyone know when that summer session begins?

It starts the first week of summer quarter here at the UW. In this yrs case it would be on Jun 19th.

I've just received the financial aid email, so yeah, it didn't just sent out to accepted students.

To be exact, I think the summer program that first year students take histology class is called Pre-Mat and it starts at mid June and ends at the end of July. I remember when I did my SMEP program, we both started the same time from Jun 22 to July 31 (6 weeks).

Too bad, I was excited for you guys!

Nice weather we're having....I am thinking about playing hookie from work tomorrow to go hiking.

When did you do SMEP? Did you do SMEP at the UW?

I did SMEP in 2004 at UW. adiddas125, did you do that too?

I did SMEP, but it was called MMEP back when I did it. I did it in 2002 at UW.

http://depts.washington.edu/omca/PREMAT/

I did Premat last summer. From the website, it looks like this summer it's June 18 - July 29, 2006.

It was a fabulous experience. I applied for it not really knowing about the program or whether I actually wanted to do it, but I'm so glad I did. Premat is more than just taking histology over the summer -- you mentor HS & college students, get to meet classmates early and hang out with them all summer, learn how to navigate through the Health Sciences Building (well, you learn after getting lost in the halls for the 10th time), the stipend is great, and you get to have fun with the wonderful staff of OMCA.

But to be absolutely truthfully, the best part is getting Histology out of the way. First year is hectic (I don't care what people say about med school not being so bad, you WILL be studying all the time) and not having to worry about a time-intensive class like Histo is a huge relief. Premat's a big time commitment - you will be busy each day during the 6-weeks - but it was also fun.

bumping for the Excom mtg this week...

Excellent - yet another opportunity to get overlooked. OK, gotta stay positive.... Good :luck: !

Did anyone write a letter of intent to the UW? If so, who did you address it to and when did you send it?

Thanks!

Any word on how many spots have been filled?

+pissed+ +pad+

Valentines Day is here... Hope there is some love tomorrow at the excom meeting.

Good luck everyone! I'm starting to get tired from wading in this pool...

About the financial aid letters or emails (didn't read all the posts), UW sent me their acceptance letter for their undergrad after I received their scholarship and financial aid offers. Maybe this is some twisted habit of theirs?

ah, I doubt it, though I hope it.

I think that's more likely to happen for undergrad because they don't just send out the fin-aid stuff to everyone-- since some people won't apply for fin-aid. For med school- they assume that no one can afford it (a correct assumption) so they remind everyone to submit fafsa.

but I like your theory better. here's to hoping.

is there a EXCOM meeting today?

To my knowledge yes!

WELL, my status page is still the same, anyone's status change?

I doubt that it would change tonight. I believe if it will change... It will happen tomorrow . Get a good nights sleep aspringdoc!

Just want to put another "good luck, dudes" out there. I'm going to be checking my status page like crazy all day tomorrow. :luck:

I now know how it feels like to be someone who needs to be confirmed by a Senate.

Nothing for me either. I find it amazing that so few people on SDN have been accepted. Who are they accepting if not us?!

on the flip side, who are they rejecting... ?

I know of some people who were rejected after their first EXCOM meeting. They are truely good people, good #'s, good personality, and I would be happy for them to be my doc when I am in pain. This process is very subjective and it kills me.

wow! I really do feel lucky to be in the competitive pool then, no matter how difficult it is to feel good about that right now.
