Univ of Washington Interviews for 2006

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats to you guys, liz and aspiringdoc. This process sucks and I can only fantasize about the excitement/relief you must have felt seeing your status pages change! 😉

For the rest of us, is agonizing the right word for this wait or what? I'm so excited that I'm going somewhere in the fall, but I can't count the reasons that I want to stay here in Seattle. So, for the rest of us..... :luck: :luck: :luck:

Congrats!! Hey Liz and Aspiringdoc, did you guys send in letters of interest or any other form of communication after your interview? I know Liz was asking about it a while back.

thanks, everyone. I'm insanely excited. Ahumdinger, after my interview, I sent a letter of interest, my fall transcript, and my updated activities to UWSOM. I don't know if those help, but I would recommend you guys do it, it doesn't hurt to try, a letter of interest may show your consistent interest in attending UW, who knows, it may make a difference in the next executive meetings. Try to send them before March 15 and 17 meetings, and see if it makes a difference. GOod luck

Hey all!
Any Idaho WWAMI hopefuls or already accepted out there?? I have been checking this post out for a bit but have yet to post until now and haven't seen much from the Idaho folk. I am interviewing March 9th (last day....don't know if that is good or bad 😕 ) and was wondering how the interview went and who the interviewers were?
Also I would like to commend all the WA residents who are still waiting to exhale after 4 months. I guess that I am lucky in that I won't have to wait that long to know my fate.
Good luck to all you future docs.

Thanks sdners! And congrats aspiringdoc! I am so excited! 😀

In answer to the Q's: my interview was in October, I didn't send in any letter of interest/intent/update letter, but I did send in my transcripts for last quarter. I was actually planning on writing the letter of intent this weekend. And, honestly, there's hope for everyone b/c I don't have super-stellar stats, don't have a ton of clinical experience and had a pretty good, but not a great interview.

Good luck everyone! :luck:

Got the letter Saturday night... Anybody else going to Pullman with me?

Really? They already have decided who is going to Pullman next year?! I thought they would wait until people volunteered to go... What does your letter say?

I thought maybe swman was from idaho? If I get in, I'm definitely going to Pullman. I hear it's a unique experience and possibly better than 1st year at Seattle. You get to know a small group of people really well, you get much more personal attention from faculty, and I even heard the facilities are newer. Congrats swman!

No, I am not from Idaho. I am actually from Tacoma, Washington, about an hour south of Seattle. I was accepted in December and the first of two lotteries was held last week, so it only included the people accepted thus far, I believe. There will be another lottery at the end of the admissions process to decide who else goes when the entire class has been decided on.

The letter did mention however, that if more people end up volunteering for Pullman than expected, some people will get the chance to come back to Seattle if they really need to.

As to my reaction to go to WSU, I'm really excited and think it will be a better learning environment for me. But I can't tell that to my girlfriend... I had to deal with her crying yesterday about me being gone for a whole year 🙄

I plan to go to the tour on March 20, is anybody else going to check that out??

Congratulations to everyone who is in and good luck to anyone waiting on the competitive list! I am a first year UWSOM student at the Wyoming WWAMI site. I'd be happy to offer any advice or provide answers to any questions you might have about the UWSOM program. Congrats again.

Another adcom meeting today. Anybody know if they are looking at all applicants or just Idaho?

I take it that they will look at idaho and if they have time leftover, they'll break out the competitive pool files.

good luck everyone!

Does anyone know where the admissions committee stands on decisions on out of state applicants? Are there going to be any meetings specifically dedicated to out of state applications? Has anyone been accepted recently?
Thanks!

I was told that I was in the pool that would be discussed this week. But I still don't know where that places me!

I don't think there are any special days for OOS applicants, probably because there are so few who got interviews. Check out the excom calendar. There's a meeting this wednesday and friday, as well as next wednesday through friday. WA and OOS applicants from the pool will be discussed at these meetings and the alternate lists compiled. BEST OF LUCK!!

tito--don't you already have an acceptance from UCSF? would you really go to UW over UCSF?

Yikes, thanks! I hadn't realized they were going to finish up so soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed. What are your thoughts on sending an update letter if I've already sent them a LOI in the past month?

yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Well, I haven't sent anything since my interview!! I think I had my latest transcript sent out, but it really only had one class on it of interest (I'm working full time and just taking a class here and there at night). I was thinking about sending an update letter via email, or do you think that it would be an obvious last scramble? I suppose it couldn't hurt.

Hey y'all,

Any SDNers planning on going to check out the WSU campus in Pullman on the WWAMI visitation day (March 20)??

I know that the WWAMI Idaho and WSU students do a lot together. Is this campus visit available for new Idaho students as well? I know that I am going to go there, but it would be fun to go see my new home

Actually, I've lived in the Bay Area for almost 6 years and as much as I love UCSF, I don't really want to continue living here. I very much loved Seattle and UW and would seriously consider it if I were offered a spot. In fact, after much thought, I've decided that UCSF and UW are my top choices. If I don't get in to UW, then I'll most likely go to UCSF.

I can definitely understand the sentiment. a lot of my friends here in st. louis are considering passing up WashU just to try a new city. Well, good luck at UW, and worst case scenario-- UCSF is not too shabby! 🙂

There are two lotteries for this process. The first takes place before the final adcom meeting. The second takes place after everyone has been accepted. They do not wait for volunteers, although I think they are happy to have them. Everyone I know who got WWAMI'd was happy for it (after they got there). I got WWAMI'd but I'm married and didn't want to leave my husband for the year so they pulled me off the hit list. Still, I know I would have loved the smaller setting and teaching by professors who are as concerned with their teaching as they are with their research. So if you go, it's not at all a bad thing.

I wonder how many more seats are available at this point...

Perhaps not many?

Here is to hoping that something good happens in the next few days...

I will be sad if the whole thing doesnt pan out, but I gotta look at the bright side, I am alive and healthy, and if I am alive and healthy I always have another opportunity to state my case for while medicine should take me.

.... But lets hope that doesnt happen. 🙂

Good luck to you all.

Does anyone know if they will be sending out letters as decisions are made or if all the letters will go out as one after the last adcom meeting? :scared:

to all who are still waiting...good luck!!!!! 🙂 hope we receive some good news after today's excom meeting!!!! :luck:

What time do they upload status changes in the morning anyway?

Status changes are made by 8:30AM by Brooke the admissions program coordinator. I called today to see if there was any change. No change for me.

The meeting for tomorrow I was told is cancelled. :scared: :scared: :scared:

Which leaves the final excom meetings left only!!!!!

I wonder if we are just waiting to be either alternate listed or rejected at this point.

California, here I come?

I have this sinking feeling that we are eventually going to be thrown to a pack of wolves.

Keep in mind that the ranked list is 25 - 26 people long and that for the last several years ALL ranked people have gotten in shortly after may 15 (some before), so even if the class is nearly full, there are still 25 or so that will probably get "good" news after the excom meeting. Not too hopeless, right? 🙂

How do we check our status? Is there a website or do we have to call?

I think this is a good sign. When did you interview? At this point, I don't think they would reject anyone until the last adcom meetings. If they discussed your file and made a decision, most likely it's a good one.

good luck!

I interviewed on 3/3.

wow! what a fast turnaround! call them and find out!

I called and no one is in admissions right now who can check my file!! I was told to call this afternoon.

Am I correct in understanding that the only lists right now are the competitive list and the accepted list? I was under the impression that as of now the adcom will either accept, reject or place applicants in the competitive pool, and at the end of interviews some more people would be accepted out of the comp. pool, and the ranked and unranked alternate lists would then also be established. Is this correct?

I know, I wasn't expecting to hear back so quickly. But now I'm obsessively checking craigslist for rental prices even though, if I go to UW, I wouldn't move up until June.

Good luck to everyone!!
