I need some quick help with a secondary.

I am asked to envision the environment of my future medical practice.

I would like to practice medicine and be involved with research at a university hospital. (That is, a hospital affiliated with a university) I am not sure what the proper name for such an institution.

Should I call it a "university hospita" or "teaching hospital" or "hospital affiliated with a university"..............\

Is there a proper name for these places?

Thanks

I think teaching hospital is more commonly used. They will know what you mean anyhow...

Thanks, would it be "politically correct" to say that these teaching hospitals are more concerened with patient care than the private hospitals who are there to make money?

I don't even know if this is true, but it makes sense when I think about it, however, all hospitals primary concerne should be patient care. (but if this were true, everyone would be a volunteer) If I say this, would it cause concern?

another name for them that you could use is "academic medical center".

i'm not so sure that their any less profit-driven than private hospitals (you should know that some university hospitals are now "private", anyway--in my area, cincinnati just did this). the main difference between university hospitals and regualr hospitals are that the university hospitals get the referrals for all the "exotic" cases, due to more cutting edge treatments/equipment, etc.

just my take on the matter, though 😉

i have heard the term University Hospital ...but i think all those names posted by the others are just as valid...they mean the same.
