Hey guys,

We are going to have a small mock MMI practice at 4 pm today in UBC! Please e-mail me if you are interested! [email protected] Thanks and GOOD LUCK !!:laugh:

Anyone know if we are allowed to bring stopwatches to the interview?

They don't specifically say anything against it, but it looks unprofessional to always be glancing down at your stopwatch. It might cause panic on your end too when you look down and see that 3 minutes has already gone by and you've only said parts of the things you wanted to say. It also shows a lack of confidence in your ability to answer adequately within the given time frame. Just go in there and answer the best you can and you'll be fine.

As I know it is 50% GPA 40% interview and 10% pact and application after interview at this point, but before getting interview PCAT and application are very important it is like 50% GPA and 50% the rest of it

Don't rely on that. I know someone who did very well on both the GPA and interview parts, but didn't get in because of his PCAT. They don't follow that breakdown exactly.

What were your friend GPA and Pcat score?

I dunno, but I am not sure that it is necessary anyway. In fact, sometimes I think that it is better to keep it short and sweet rather than worrying about trying to stretch something out over six minutes. I am sure they would prefer you talk as close to six minutes as possible, but if you say what you need to say and have nothing left to add, I don't think you would be penalized for concisely summarizing your thoughts and wrapping it up with like 30 seconds or so to spare. That's just my two cents.

I've been told that you should answer your station question in roughly 5 mins and leave 1 minute for them to ask you a follow up question or may be even for you to ask them a question at the end. What do you guys think? It's so hard for me to go on and on for 6 minutes about some of the interview questions that I've been working on. I wrap up some of the situational questions in 2 minutes :scared:

I don't think you need to talk that long.

Answering questions takes a while.

And if they ask you 1-2.

That's like 2 ish minutes of questions AT LEAST.

30 seconds of introduction etc.

You'd honestly be okay with answers around 3 minutes.

IMO.

you don’t need a stopwatch, time goes by so fast that sometimes you don’t have time to answer follow up questions

anybody think there's a chance that they will let us know by next Friday (the last day to withdraw without a W from certain summer school courses)?

I would bet anything without a life attached to it, that that wouldn't happen.

Didn't let us know until after the Canada Day long weekend last year if i recall correctly.

last year the interviews ended around june 27/26? so if they follow the time frame then probably final decisions will be made before the end of june😛

Yeah and they found out on the 5th of July.

Sooo we should be looking at around June 27th? Monday?

The e-mail Margaret sent out with the interview info said we should know by the end of the first week of July. But I would be pleased if you are right.

Also, with the acting station-- what is the procedure for greeting the interviewer? Are you just supposed to open the door and go right into your scenario with the actor and not acknowledge the interviewer at all? Or do you introduce yourself the interviewer like you would at the other stations and then start interacting with the actor? Seems kind of awkward in that case.

The interviewer will talk you through the process. Don't worry.

if ubc's acting station is similar to this one then we should start interacting right away😎

It's probably best for the people who have already taken the interview this year to NOT respond to any questions regarding the interview process/procedures/appropriate mannerisms because it might make things unfair for the people who have already gone.

How'd everyone's interviews go today?

I wonder how many sessions there are per day.

There are 20 students per session, who are divided into 2 groups.
320 interviewees seems like a plausible number.

um... in my session today (@1:50 pm) there were 27 ppl😕 maybe number of ppl for each grp was different

It's 9 people per circuit. So I guess there are a different number of circuits for each session.

I had 18 people.. So 2 circuits for my session.

Wow, I am so glad I interviewed this weekend rather than last weekend. I couldn't imagine spending an extra week stressing about the admissions decision. I felt good about my interview after I left today, but have since relived it and zeroed in on all my flaws!

at least you felt good about it when you left XD i felt bad when i left and i still feel bad now. :meanie:

someone in our group also never showed up (or at least by 45 min. in they hadn't). Wonder what happened there.

I am feeling bad after the interview too. Bad, and sad. I know I'll do better next year, at least. Wahhh!

so how much are new grads in western canada making nowadays?

So.... all the interviews should be done. Now we wait. What's everyone doing to pass the time? I am working full time and finishing up a spring course this month, yet my attention span seems to fluctuate back to this topic a lot...

I have no idea what I'm going to do to kill time. I'm already checking my e-mail every hour lol. So glad I signed up for today's interview. Waiting an extra week for the decision would've been just too painful 😀

so if everything goes as last year,we will receive the emails by monday 27th.right?

I have work full-time as well, that'll pass the time. I need more free time to hang with my friends.. haven't seen them a while because of interview prepping

I have a feeling we'll find out on the 4th/5th of July. There are more seats this year so it will probably take them a bit longer to decide.

That sounds about right, VPN. Hopefully we get it by then or earlier!

Current pharmacy students: How is first year course load like. A volunteer at the interview told me that many students drop out after first year because its borring. Also there are students that use pharmacy as leverage for med school and drop out. Can you guys speak on this?

I talked to one of the pharmacy student during the interview, she said ~5 ppl dropped out of her class for med/dent school (after 3rd yr)

Anyone planning to do so after getting in (go into dent/med)?

I know a person who got into med after first year of pharm. Seems like there are a lot of students who are seeking to do so..

Aah. All that aside I know I want to do pharm and I want to get in and I want to find out now!!

Anyone planning to do so after getting in (go into dent/med)?

Nope. Going to stay in pharmacy till the end and may be try for PharmD after if I don't party too much in the 3rd and final year.

i have a question, if someone dropped out of pharm for med/dent or some other reasons, will they admit an extra student next year to maintain the quota?

Let me just clarify some things that Farm is misleading you guys into. I am already a pharmacy student so that gives a little more credibility on my part.

1. All interviews, regardless of whether held in 1,2,3rd week, have the same chance of getting in.

2. White suits dont help. 😀 but I like his/her sense of humour

3. Good luck, if you have an interview offer, chances are, you will get in as long as you show composure and confidence. MMIs are really simple if you just put your mind to it.

4. During one MMI session we held for pre-pharm students, some students cried when the interviewers were apparently "harsh". Good luck, since some of the interviewers you see will PURPOSELY act that way to test your resiliency. Pharmacists, like many other healthcare professionals will face verbal abuse, so if you emotionally react in the MMI, chances are you will react during your career and you wont like it.

Good luck to the rest of the interviewees! You are halfway here, so just make the best of it, and to those who havent received acceptance this year, don't give up!

oh sorry, forgot to mention that you can also skip your interview, and after the 2nd week of interviews, they will offer you the 3rd week interview

not only is the acceptance rate higher, there is also no acting station on this week

i seriously wonder if it's a bad idea to reveal my secrets here, i just don't want to have an unfair advantage

see you guys on the 25/26th!

Like if a 3rd year drops out?

Hmm thats a good question. I strongly doubt it. Guess we will see after how many people UBC admits this year. I know some people got into med/dent this year from our program.

If you are up for challenge, go into the program.
It is definitely more interesting than a typical undergrad program, but at the same time, there is a LOT more work to it, and you are competing with other students coming in with a good background, so its not easy at all.

If you dont like speaking to other people in general, I strongly recommend you dont apply to this program, because you will be speaking publically, to patients, to acting patients, etc and you gotta be pretty darn good at speaking to other people. You cant just get away with doing well in written tests in this program.

many students DO NOT drop off after 1st year. There are two reasons why someone would drop out. I am not 100% sure how many people drop out each yr, but an upper year told me 6 people dropped out last year for these 2 reasons.

1. You failed a course, so instead of repeating pharmacy, you change routes.
2. You get accepted into a program that you always wished to get into
