Have you guys set up which lender you're going to use? They sent me that financial aid packet so I set up my fasfa and the UC application already. The lender situation seems to be a bit confusing.

In the package there is an approved lender sheet which lets you choose from 3 or so lenders. I basically chose a random one (access group), then UC just wants you to send them the first page of your electronic signature printout so they know which lender you chose..

hope that helps

I still need to file Fasfa and those fin aid forms. Would this have any effect on getting off of the waiting list? I assume probaly not, but i could be mistaken.

I totally feel that way. While it was exciting news to hear I was in top-third, I have no idea how they are even going to utilize the alternate list. There has been two middle-third OOS males getting in so I feel like they are gunning for OOS foremost. This is my only waitlist and I'm already about to turn in my early application for UC for the next cycle. Ugh, stressful process.

has anyone heard of any in-state ppl getting off the list yet??

Since most of the waitlist spots go out before june 15th, I think that this week is crucial...good luck to you all!

I just just got accepted today also!!!!

I am just like Ktbro323. I am an instate female and this is my first acceptance!! i was in the top 1/3 (i am also waitlisted at wright and neoucom and will probably withdraw if they helps anyone else)

i guess it looks like the list is moving for instate females in the top third!

Its weird though bc i didnt get an email. just after i read ktbro323 got in as an instate female i checked medonestop and i was shocked to see it said congratulations and that i got in!

is that weirdo i didnt get an email?? it has been hours nad still no email... i hope its not a fake out acceptance (i printed it for proof though haha)

Well I received 2 emails the day I was accepted, one to say my status was updated and the other titled "Acceptance Information". Then I went to MedOneStop and it said I was accepted. It's possible your status was updated but those emails haven't been sent out yet. Anyways, congrats!

Congrats to all who have been accepted! It's now past the June 15th date that some people have marked at the date for most of the waitlist acceptences to be sent out by UC...does anybody know how accurate that date is or if more will be sent out?

I emailed Dr. Manuel on Friday- just trying to get any info on the waitlist and movement for the rest of the summer etc...heres what I got:

It is always tough to "guess" what will happen or where we will end up
on the alternate list. I am not trying to dodge the question(s), but the
reality is that at this point we just don't know what will happen. I
tried to answer your questions (below) - but if you want me to elaborate
or clarify anything please let me know.
Sincerely,
Stephen Manuel

As I am in the top third of the alternate list (in-state), I hope for
some movement on this list throughout the summer. So far, has there
been much movement?

We have not experienced as much movement as we were anticipating and while we are making some offers from our alternate list, it is moving slowly.

Do you expect much movement for the remainder of the summer?
It is still early in the process/summer and we due tend to make
the most offers in the month of June. The next two weeks will really
tell us a lot about the amount of movement we might have on the list.

I know there have been several students accepted from the alternate list
who are out of state, are there separate in-state and out of state
lists, and do they each move differently?

Yes, the list is separated by in state and out of state since
there is a percentage of in-state students that we wish to have
in the class. During the end of May we were making more out of state
offers and over the last week we have been making more in state offers.

Is the remaining waitlist large?
The wait list has about 250 students on it.

Well.....the waiting continues I guess....thank you very much for offering up that email response from Dr. Manuel. At least we have some sort of perspective. Still hopefull....at least they are trying to be honest and upfront with us.

The wait list has about 250 students on it.

Yeah, I figured that the list was going to be pretty large. The purpose of the wait list is to keep the class filled no matter what, not preserve the self esteem of the students on the list. And, if you think about it, they might have to make quite a bit of calls to fill seats at the last minute as people may have accepted other offers, signed leases in other cities, etc.

Oh well, I'd still love to go to UC, but I'm not holding my breath. At this point it would just be a nice surprise gift. :)

maybe this is how the list "actually" works lol
oos top 1/3=waitlist top 1/3
in state female top 1/3=waitlist middle 1/3
in state male top 1/3=waitlist bottom 1/3

Hopefully there will be movement soon. Apparently there are categories within the High, Mid and Low prority beyond IS and OOS.

I just went into the office and spoke with a woman who told me that the list is still moving steadily....she would not offer up any information as to how large the list still is, whether in state or out of state is moving more, ect...her reply was that it is all confidential

As an instate applicant that has been reading this for 4 months now, I finally am so frustrated I had to add my two cents.

Dr. Manuel said that he "hates SDN...everyone lies...dont read it". So. I didn't read this forum. But as I found myself really lost and unsure I began reading it. If I hadn't read what you posters had said, I would have never learned what I did. I want to thank you for always sharing your information, you saved me from a lot of misinformation.

OOS Male, in on 07/08. Sorry to torture you ISers like this, but figured I'd at least put in the word that there's still movement.

Thanks for telling us, thanks for sharing your profile - Good luck, at least we all now know people are getting accepted, even if they are OOS, someone should have hope.

Thank you guys/gals, and it was the middle third. I hope my post is helpful, because I can see it's generating doubt in some people (particularly a commenter to my MDapps, which I tried to respond to).

How many waitlisters are having difficulty with what is occurring?

I just don't really understand the point of ranking the waitlist if you don't even follow that ranking at all.... taking people from the bottom and middle third but not taking people from the top third?!?!?! I thought being in the top third was a good thing. Its nothing against people who have gotten in...thats great for them, its more confusion with UCs seemingly meaningless ranking system.

I thought if you started orientation at one school you could not matriculate at another school..... or maybe thats just what all schools tell us?

This post became the topic of a major discussion. Something is questionable. Let's look at the facts:
  • On Jun 13th, hferdjal says that they have been accepted to a med school that will start in 3 days. Its their only acceptance, waitlisted at other schools, confused as to what choice to make - start, wait, re-take MCAT and re-apply.
  • Yesterday hferdjal posts a question asking about how time-consuming med school will be. Odd, considering, either they either: 1 - started school nearly 1 month ago and should have the syllabus and some expectations, 2 gave-up a perfectly good acceptance and would have to re-apply (including taking MCAT according to earlier posts) or 3 somehow knew they would get off a waitlist?
  • then last night hferdjal posts they got off UC, from oos, low MCAT and was on the bottom 1/3 of UC waitlist
Something is just not right, things are not falling in place. WHY GIVE UP A PERFECTLY GOOD ACCEPTANCE for the unknown? WHAY ASK A QUESTION LIKE IS MED SCHOOL TIME-CONSUMING at this late time? How could UC pass-up perfectly good in-state applicants continuously since May? How would Manuel answer applicants that ask "what's the deal?"

maybe he was lying
maybe he didnt take the initial acceptance
maybe he doesn't share every decision he makes on sdn
maybe previous posts are not the most reliable sources of information
maybe schools have a pre-determined number of IS and OOS applicants they want to take
maybe its financially advantageous to take OOS students
maybe he's a more qualified applicant than you realize
maybe you can still ask questions about medical school even if you are already enrolled

cant wait to find out. conspiracy theories on sdn? yes, please.

if all these are true...why arent these people in the top third....why rank a waitlist when the ranking actually means nothing- just don't rank it at all then
