FYI, I was notified about my "early award" today.

What's that?

BTW for some reason I was thinking about something else other than FAFSA when you asked if I put my e-mail adress on it...I just turned in my FAFSA today, so yeah...

They'll determine the actual awards at the end of the month, when the tuition is approved and they know the true cost of attendance. Until then, it's an estimate.

FYI. for 2009 applicants. I cant remember if this information is available on the website or not but during my file review the told me of the total points available...

GPA = 45%

GRE General + BIO subject = 30%

File review (PS, experience, references) = 25 %

Good luck everybody :luck:

I found this information really disheartening...

For contract state students...if someone who is initially accepted from a UGA contract state (DE, SC, WV, ect) declines, then waitlisters are selected and invited from an "at large applicant pool" that is made up of all the waitlisters from all the contract states plus any regular OSS. So a declined contract state position is not neccessarily refilled by a waitlister from that same state.

This doesnt make sense to me because the UGA bulletin says "UGA accepts up to insert number of contract seats." So, if someone from DE declines and then the next "best" waitlisted applicant is from SC but they already have 17 SC students committed, what happens then?

Perhaps Im just naive, but I just assumed that if I was lucky enough to get on the waitlist I just might have a chance. But at UGA its like being put right back into the selection process [lottery] all over again????

The waitlist for GA residents is done completely different.

WOOOO...HOOOOOO!

Perspective Applicants: As of Thursday, August 07, 2008 the SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATION will NOT be REQUIRED in order to complete your application to The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine for the 2008-2009 Application cycle.

Good luck, LVT! Hey... is anyone else applying this time around?

I have been wrestling with the idea of applying to UGA. My main motivation for applying is that my boyfriend of 3.5 years just started a phd program at Georgia Tech and well, Atlanta and Portland, OR are quite far away so Athens seems pretty reasonable. The Bio GRE was deterring me but I noticed that they don't need that score until November so I think I'm just going to go for it even though my chances as an OOSer are very very slim. Can't hurt to try!

Good luck, LVT! Hey... is anyone else applying this time around?

I am first time applying from SC, so I'll be a contract seat hopefully at UGA. I was hoping to get some input from those of you with experience at this as to my chances!
Currently I work as a vet assistant at a SA clinic part time since the beginning of the summer and will continue with that this school year. I have done research with rats, injecting them, placing catheters, etc for 1 year, going on 2, 10 hours/week. I worked at an "upscale" pet shop last summer FT. We washed dogs, helped customers pick best food, etc. I have pet-sat for numerous dogs, cats and horses. I'm hoping to start going on large animal calls with one of the vets at my practice and I have started volunteering at the shelter in town. I also am going to start volunteering at the wildlife preserve we have here. No zoo, so it's the closest thing to exotics I can get.
I have a 3.8-3.9 GPA, same for science and last 45 hours. 1270 on GRE, 4.5. Taking Bio GRE next month.
I know I don't have nearly the experience that most of the posters on the message board have, but with my GRE and GPA do I have a chance?
I'm also applying to UF, LSU, Mississippi, UTK, Auburn, VA-MD and CSU. What do you all think?😳

Uh, your experience sounds pretty good. I wouldn't worry about it. Just apply and see how you do!

Oh, and... if you're taking the bio GRE anyway, why not apply to good ol' OKstate? 😀

Good luck, LVT! Hey... is anyone else applying this time around?

Thanks Projekt, Im kinda freakin out....new job, VMCAS stuff, GRE test:bang: I hope it all works this time.

TELL VEGGIRL TO EMAIL ME I NEED TO TALK TO HER! SHE BLOCKED ALL HER PMs.

You may have already seen it, but the UGA vet school web page posts GPA/GRE statistics for accepted applicants from previous years. For the Class of 2011 (the latest stats posted), the averages for accepted applicants from SC were: 3.54 GPA, 3.44 science, 3.58 last 45, 1188 GRE, 4.4 analytical, 608 Bio GRE. In presentations to the UGA pre-vet club and elsewhere, the admissions counselor has emphasized the importance of having both large and small animal experience. In the presentation I attended, she recommended at least 400 hours (both LA and SA combined) as a rule of thumb, but that was a few years ago. Hope this helps some!

Wow, do you really want to go to any of those OOS schools? If they're just "safetys" you don't need them and they'll just cost you money in interviews and application fees you could put in a CD until you enter school. Your grades are really good, and your GRE is just fine. I would make a quick call to find out if you have a reasonable amount of experience and you'll be good to go.

SC has contracts at, IIRC, UGA, Tuskeegee, and Mississippi State. Any of those schools will make you a great vet at 1/3 the cost of the OOS schools.

Not sure how to enter the AP credits I got! Do I enter the class they counted for ? If so what do you put for grade? Do do you just say AP US History and the score? If I get this ...I'm almost done! YAY!

I think that's basically what I did. Make sure the AP sends a transcript to your schools.

You just said AP US History and the score? TRANSCRIPTS!!?!? WHAT???? OMG!!!!!! Do they have to be there before Oct 2nd? I'm going to have a nervous breakdown

Yeah, you need AP transcripts. Go to the ETS website and find out what you need to do. Make an effort to request them and send your schools a note saying that you hope they'll arrive on time, but that they might come a little late. The schools should be understanding.

I think this is going to help me trim my list of schools down now! 🙁 This is sooo overwhelming and usually not one to easily overwhelm!

One last question...when requesting the AP scores...is the school code the AP school code? On the AP website? Or the school code they give on the schools website? I think that's for GRE only?? I'M SO CONFUSED!!!!😕

Are you sure that you have to send AP scores directly to UGA CVM? I do not think this is the case per their website:
http://www.vet.uga.edu/admissions/requirements/19.php

It states, "AP credits must appear on official college transcripts and be equivalent to the appropriate college-level coursework."
Nothing is said about sending scores to the school. I was of the understanding that AP credit for a course was valid as long as it appears in your college transcript.

I think they have to 1) have been accepted by your school as credit 2) appear on their own transcript. You can e-mail Laura Leigh Crowe and make sure: [email protected].

I think the school code is the same for both, but I'm not sure. AP and GRE are the same organization. Another good reason to e-mail Laura Leigh.

Thanks for the info...I've been frantically checking the schools websites and really don't see anything about AP transcripts, except for UGA which says they have to be on your school's official transcript (which mine are). I guess I'll save my panic attack for tomorrow til I talk to Laura. Thanks again for your help

I emailed the Office of Academic Affairs for UGA CVM and their reply to me was that as long as your AP credits are listed on your undergraduate transcripts, you should be fine!

Thanks for checking on that.....that's a big relief!😀

applied to UGA this year- but as a FL resident. I figured if I don't get in to UF this year, I will move, est. GA residency, etc. But I at least wanted to get my name in the pool this year.

Thx for the info. on the supplemental. It was helpful! 👍

Welcome Back Philo! Yeah, I was totally psyched about no supplemental this year. I wonder if that means theyll be bringing back interviews......I heard a rumor? Welp...only 6 months of waiting to go! Come on March 26th!

Thanks spaylady. Just wishing those great GRE tips would have helped more. I only managed to increase my score 80 points.. UGH! But I have one more chance next month!

Hey, an 80 point increase is nothing to be bummed about! That's a pretty big step up, and you're heading in the right direction. Keep practicing, stay calm, and blow the roof off that darn test next month! 😍

Anyone else apply to UGA? I am anxiously waiting to hear from them either way... good or bad... I am having a hard time waiting this long!!!!

Thought I'd move this to the top again since we're not going to hear anything until MARCH and we can't join in the "interview" thread....Any other hopeful Bulldogs out there? The day I sent in my application, a bulldog came in our clinic to be seen....I think it was a sign!!.....HOPING it was a sign! 😀

UGACVM sent out an application for prospective in-state applicants today to be completed by December 12, along with another "non-refundable processing cost." 🙄
It's not a supplemental application. It mostly concerns things pertaining to residency in the state of Georgia.
Anyone else hear anything from them?

I got my DE residency certification material today my email. No deadline on it this year? Usually it has to be there by Feb 1.

As a non-resident, I got an email that said: We'll tell you something no later than April 15th 😱

5 more months

I'm IS and I got an email with the same time frame. However, I know that last application cycle, people started finding out around the middle of March. That is so long to wait!

Does anyone know if UGA offers any formal tours of the school? I emailed them a couple days ago but I haven't gotten a response yet. I'm going to be in Atlanta tonight through next Wednesday and I would really like to do a mini trip on over to Athens and check out the school if I can.

They do have tours (I'm a current vet student). You might try calling the academic affairs office (706.542.5728) to schedule a tour since you haven't heard back from anyone, yet. The only problem I could see is that we're starting finals right now, but there's no reason they shouldn't get back to you and at least try to schedule a tour (usually students give the tours... I'm sure someone will be free to give one). Calling is probable the way to go since it's so soon and you haven't heard back.

Heard back from them today, but this is what they said "We conduct tours every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, but December is a little different than normal. Please look at January 8th or 22nd for your next opportunity." Soooooo I guess no tour for me. I guess I forgot to mention I'm from Oregon, so I can't just pop on over to Athens whenever, hehe. But maybe if I get an interview at Auburn and then stay with my bf in Atlanta I can swing it then. Or maybe I'll just creepily wander around the campus by myself...

That's less than accomodating. I didn't realize they limited the days. You might try calling to see if you can explain the situation (about being from across the country and all) and see if they can make arrangements for you. Generally the phone works better than e-mail for extraordinary circumstances.

Why do they wait so long.....I can't wait anymore!!!!!🙁

At UGA we like our students to have ulcers. We also like them to be a little crazy.

If its crazy you want, crazy you are going to get if I have to wait much longer! None of the schools where I applied have notified yet. I think the earliest will be Mississippi the week after Christmas. It would be nice to have some news for Christmas....oh well....guess I just have to keep the faith and hope for the best!

This is my 3rd year of apps- wating until then will not make me crazy, it's just a darn long time. I know I won't get in as an OOS anyway- just trying to get me name visible for next year when I will apply as an ISS if this year doesn't pan out....

UGA is my IS, and I'm doing my undergrad there now. Well, til graduation tomorrow, anyway. I applied last year as a third-year student for practice and got wait-listed. I never got in off the wait list, but I did learn a lot about UGA that I wouldn't have known if I hadn't applied. I'd like to share some of that with you guys now, if you're interested.

It's unlikely that UGA will do interviews this spring. They used to do interviews, but we have to take the GRE Biology now instead. Apparently this girl came in to her interview at UGA a few years ago with her hair dyed purple. She got rejected. She sued the school for not accepting her because of her purple hair. UGA doesn't do interviews anymore.

They'll put around 30 people on the wait list, but they usually won't accept more than 5-7. I met a girl who was 2nd on the wait list back in... 2003... and was the last student accepted. But they have to have backup in case the kids who have been accepted to both med school and vet school choose med school the day after classes start. When that happens (and it has happened a couple times over the past few years), they go through the waitlist pretty quick because most people can't come up with the money right then.

The admissions advisor this year is new (the previous admissions person is now working in a different department on campus), so some things may change in the next few application cycles. I imagine this is why there was no supplemental this year, but I could be wrong.

I know they don't have a timeline on their website, but they told me on March 13th last year that I was on the alternate list, and I think a few kids got acceptance letters a day or two before that. We were all expecting to have to wait until April. They started accepting people off the wait list immediately, but I didn't get my final rejection until August 19th. It was a suspenseful summer.

I think the next thing we should expect to hear from them is that our fall semester transcripts need to be sent/have arrived.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Good luck, everyone! Maybe we'll be classmates next fall! :xf:

I will be a SC contract seat (hopefully!), any inside scoop for us SC people?

Thought it was time for a UGA bump....Who else is a Bulldog hopeful?

I'm a Bulldog hopeful and applied there two years ago and didn't get in. It is my IS. My GPA is low, so I'm not looking to get in this year, unless a miracle from God happens! Which could!😉

Good Luck to the rest of y'all! Oh yeah, Turkeytalk, I love your RIR. My hens are still laying, straight through the winter!

Hey...
Im a bulldog hopeful... First year applying. getting really anxious!!!
Good luck yall...

IS, I assume? Are you currently doing your undergrad there, too? It's my first year applying to UGA and I'm just finishing up undergrad there now as well. Good luck to you! It'll be March before we know it!
