Every other row in the freshman room has a left-handed desk. THe other two rooms are ambidextrous because it's like a table instead of an individual desk.
 
I found out today that there are 102 members for the Class of 2013. This is definitely an increase from only 96, but from everything I have read one of the main reasons they can't increase the class size much is because of the hospital size. The vet school is actively attempting to raise money for a new hospital, which they hope will also allow them to increase their class size to about 140 students.
 
102? really? they didn't just overadmit knowing that at least 8 people would decline?
that's kind of exciting. 🙂
 
That's the way it sounded. The admission counselor said he would be calling everyone this week once the roster was set for the class, and the number he continued to use was 102. I have no idea why the class size increased, or if I interpreted him incorrectly, but it is exciting!
 
A quick question for any current students at the vet school:

I'm registering for parking and I was wondering which $20 lot is most convenient to the vet school. I'm currently in E01 at the IM fields, but I was thinking that the S14 lot behind the Carlton Street Deck might be a shorter walk.
Any advice?

How are you registering for parking already? Did you get something in the mail?
 
I would go for the lot behind the Carlton deck. 90% of the vet students park in the deck or that lot which is literally right behind it. The IM fields are kinda far, esp. on rainy days!

Since I'm currently a student, I received an email that parking registration has begun. Don't worry though, as soon as you set up your MyID login/email account through UGA, you'll be able to register, too. The deadline for the first round of parking registration isn't until July 10th and it goes by a priority system (not first come, first serve), so you'll have plenty of time to register!

Thank you! It's also silly that it takes two different UGA buses to get to the vet school from the IM fields, too! I'll take whatever saves me from having to cram my body on to Orbit...😱
 
Do you know when classes start?!?!
 
S14 is pretty reasonable, esp. because you get in before 8AM and get the good spots. S16 is where the rest of the students park, who don't get S14 or the deck. (Or, like me, you bike.)
 
I would think S16 and S17 are closer than S14 or the deck.. is it not?

Ohh man. I have tried to bike. It didn't go so well. I did find out that Athens suddenly becomes extremely hilly when you're on a bicycle, though!
 
S16 is not that much closer. Especially because it's a tiered lot so you might end up parking in one of the tiers that's not as close some days (depending on when class starts). Either way you might save 1 minute or so, so it's not that big of a deal. It is cheaper than the deck (I think) so it's really about how much you want to pay. I think S17 is rather hard to get into and it's mostly faculty that get it. But, my car likes the deck because it protects it from the elements. 🙂
 
So Malik McKinley calls me today on my cell phone and....... of course I missed the call. Now I have to wait until tomarrow to find out what he wanted. Anyone care to speculate, I totally flipping out. Someone please give me another reason, any reason he would be calling other than....god I hate to even say it....could it be possible????????

LOL. I was hoping you guys would calm me down and yall are more excited than I am. I will be seriously embarrassed if he called for some arbitary unrelated to vet school reason like... I dunno...asking for a donation or selling magazine subscriptions. 😱 Ive been racking my brain all night trying to figure out a possible reason for him calling and I just cannot come up with anything. 😕 I called last week to scheduled a file review and I spoke with him and he told me they wouldnt be setting those up until after May 15th. End of conversation. I didnt leave a message or send him an email or anything that would cause him to call me back, so Im completely stumped. I definately will not be sleeping tonight.
 
Did he just call and leave you a VM to call him back?

Oh I reallly really hope it is awesome news! 😀

I know, I know. Im kicking myself. But I was working. Not allowed to have my phone on me while working. I went to leave and saw the message. Called back but only got an answering machine, I guess everyone was already gone.
 
OHHHH MYYY GOD!!!!!!!! I am totally freaking out right now, LVT! I am praying for you that he's calling for the reason I think he is! Why else would he call and be so gosh darn elusive? It's because he is saving the special news - I HOPE!
 
I should also mention, in the least creepy way possible (haha), that I will definitely be checking these boards more often tomorrow waiting to see if you have news!
 
I hope it's really good news for you LVT. When he called me I also didn't answer the phone because I didn't know the number. So, when he left a message it was the same generic message he left you. Yet, I also couldn't think of any other reason he would have to call me unless it concerned admission off the wait-list. I really wish that they would leave a slightly more upbeat message when they called like, "Hi this is so and so from UGA's College of Vet Med with great news. Please give me a call back at your earliest convenience." They can't seem to do that for some reason though. Oh well, I'm sure fortune will be smiling upon you tomorrow when you finally get in touch with him. I can't wait to hear how it all turns out for you.:luck:

Well I called UGA and the admission director asked if Id been accepted or received a waitlist invitation anywhere else? I said No. And he said the admissions committee had re-reviewed my application and felt I had worked very hard and my application had great merit and then he asked if I was still interested in attending UGA. I said Yes, then he said "Well we would like to offer you a position in this years class. Would you like to accept it?" I said ABSOLUTELY! and then preceded to scream and say thank you about 1000 times. I got off the phone and my hands were shaking.....and still are.
I felt like I was dreaming until my friend who attends UGACVM just happened by they admission door and they posted the acceptance list today and she saw my name and sent me like 20 emails to make sure I knew. Guess its official. Way to surreal. This is an amazing day.

She said there are only 2 DE acceptees on the posted list (I had speculated DE may have sponsored another seat this year), so I suppose some people declined admission. Dont know where I was orginally in the ranking, but abbie302 was the only DE alternate and she decided to go to OKSU, so perhaps I was number 4? Who knows?? I was too shocked to ask. :wow:

OMG, congrats, LVT!!! BTW, this is Holly, LadyHitokiri's sister. Don't know if you remember meeting me back at the Iowa interviews. I was so thoroughly happy for you when Heather told me. Go you!!! 🙂
 
I do remember you Holly! So glad to see you on the boards. Sorry your sister and I arent going to be classmates at Iowa, but so happy were both going to vetschool. I think shes going to be really happy in IL. Besides my buddy Truth74 will watch out for her. Good luck to ya.

So I received and mailed my acceptance letter yesterday. So what happens now? When do we get FA information and information about orientation and stuff? I really need to start planning my move and it would be nice to know how much $ I have to work with. The acceptance letter did say they expected yearly tuition to be about 14,000 this year, which is very nice to hear.
 
When I last talked with Mr. McKinley he told me they hoped to have info packets out sometime in June. It's suppose to include a bunch of different stuff such as information about orientation, letters from the frats (possibly other organizations as well), waivers we have to sign, etc. I hope they stick to this, but even if they don't I believe our letters claim everything will be online by July.
 
Guys, just wanted to let you know that Malik told me that orientation runs the 11-14 of August. The White Coat Ceremony is the 16th and classes begin on the 17th with a BBQ that night for first years and their families. According to a friend of mine that is a 2nd year at UGA, go ahead and fill out your FAFSA forms online. The deadline is July 1. Hope this information helps!🙂

Did he say we would be getting that information by mail any time soon? An upperclassman told me they dont send that stuff out until MUCH later and we wont get FA payments until 10days before school.
