Scheduled my interview on Jan 31th. I will be driving since its just 6hrs away.

Hey, congrats on your invitations... But can I have a couple of questions?

Did you guys apply for the specific UPharm or RPharm program?

And which program is the interview invitation for?

Thank you! and much of luck on your interview day!

lucky you!

I went to go and look for flights and when I clicked back on the interview schedule the 31st was full.

These interviews are filling up fast it seems like.

I got the last one on the 18th of Feb.

Nice! I am on Feb 18th as well, at 10:00am.

I applied to the generic program. I submitted my app sometime in early October I believe.

Good luck to everyone!

generic and october.

Congrats! See you there!

I got an interview as well but did not check my email until I came back from work after 5pm. The only days remaining to schedule an interview are Feb 24, 25, and 28. I am curious as to whether there were a lot of dates open at the beginning of the day or just a few days?

i submitted my application on pharmcas 1/5 and was notified that my application is going on to the next mailing(1/31). I am not sure if I will be able to get the supplemental application on time before the deadline (2/11). Can someone please help me on that? Thanks

I just found out about my interview yesterday! Anyone else going on Feb 18th?

Hi, I'm new on this site so I hope I am posting things right...I apologize if I'm messing up the threads. 😕

I really want to go to UIC but I applied relatively late in the game so I'm not sure if I have a chance for an interview. I'm about to submit my supplemental in the next couple days. Does anyone know about how long it takes after they receive your supplemental to send out interview info?

How do you apply for just the generic PharmD...is it the same as UPharm?

How much weight do they put on grades/Pcat? I don't have super high stats (M/S gpa: 3.1, overall: 3.26, PCAT: 84 comp) but I have a lot of volunteer work, pharm tech job experience, research lab tech, student gov, etc. Is there a chance for me?

Any advice/answers would be much appreciated! 🙂

When you fill out the supplemental there are boxes to fill out indicating if you are interested in the UPharm or RPhram program. Basically, you go through the same core classes with either way you chose the generic, UPharm, and RPharm programs it's just that your electives are chosen for you if you're in the UPharm or RPharm.

UIC considers all parts of the application....so if you got bad PCAT scores they'll see if those are reflected in your GPA. I know someone who received an interview with a good/solid GPA but a bad PCAT but she had a lot of extracurriculars and pharm tech experience so don't lose hope! Btw they look at the subscores of your PCAT not the cummulative. I believe they let you know the status of your application rather quickly, good or bad.

Btw for everyone that has been accepted and choosing to go to UIC what campus did you get placed to? Chicago or Rockford?

Thanks for the info 🙂 I checked both the RPharm and UPharm because I'm not sure how to just be considered for regular.

As far as I am aware, if you selected either campus on the supplemental it is chosen at random (minus the UPharm/RPharm). However, I was interviewed at Rockford and my interviewer said if I want to attend Rockford just shoot him an email otherwise it'll be left at random. The reason is because I did my interview at Rockford.

Still waiting to hear the news :/ been exactly one week.

I am curious if anybody knows how many seats have been filled so far? Right now my interview date is on Feb 24th and I wanted to know if I am at this point more likely to be accepted or on the waiting list?

Not many, I'd say less than half.

Hey everyone, I got accepted to UIC Jan 4th. I know how everyone is so worried about the admission packet because after they took the check and sent one confirmation email, there hasn't been any activity. However, if anyone is crazy like me go to uic website put your name is people search and it should bring you up as the "student in college of pharmacy" 🙂 Also I attended UIC for undergrad and graduated last year so I can even log on to my portal and everything has changed there to college of pharmacy. Now I am also getting their official emails(which is annoying!) So I am satisfied...
People who are confused about the rpharm upharm. I did not know anything about it either so on my supp app. I selected Upharm. Basically, checking one box or the other means that you "would like to learn more about those" therefore, I got the separate application for upharm later on which I kinda ignored😳 Because my interviewer told me 5 times that once you get in one or the other, U CANNOT back out. He also told me that this is something new so they will be accepting like 15 students for upharm and 6 or something for rpharm. Who will just take some particular seminars and electives.
Like someone said in this thread, its the same as generic, just some electives on top of it. In easy terms its like doing honors program or something on top of your reg degree. so don't worry about it.

Thanks! I tried to do a people seach and found my name! Here's the website for everyone http://www.uic.edu/uic/search/

Unfortunatly I'm not as lucky as you to get those "annoying" emails yet🙁

Hi! This is a question for current out-of-state pharmacy students at UIC. I was accepted back in December and I'm from California. Is it hard to establish residency for tuition purposes at UIC? I have read the guidelines before, but they seem rather stringent compared to other institutions (for example, one must have gainful employment during the academic year...) Can anyone share their experience regarding this matter? Thanks a million 🙂

so if you wanted to do generic pharm, then don't check either of the boxes? and if you DO check the boxes, it doesn't mean that you are committing to applying for those programs right? it just means you're interested...and they will send ANOTHER application later...? this Upharm/Rpharm/generic pharm is confusing to me... 😛

Yes, you got it!
But to be honest with you, just check one of the boxes, it doesn't hurt and it seems like yes you are interested in one of their confusing programs lol.

I really don't understand why so many people are so confused. The instructions are simple. Maybe my application is different then everyone else's? here is what I had

RPHARM
<description of rpharm omitted>
If you wish to be contacted regarding the Rockford RPHARM program, please check the appropriate box.
--Yes, I am interested and wish to be contacted.
---No, I am not interested.

UPHARM
<description of upharm omitted>

...then UPHARM may be for you. Students accepted into this program must attend the Chicago Campus.
If you wish to be contacted regarding the UPHARM program, please check the appropriate box.
---Yes, I am interested and wish to be contacted.
--No, I am not interested.

CAMPUS PREFERENCE: Select the statement that best represents your preference (Chicago, Rockford).
---I will only consider Chicago.
---I will only consider Rockford.
---I will consider either Chicago or Rockford (Applicants must be serious about going to either location. Should an offer be made to one, there will not be another offer and they are not eligible to go on anyalternate list.)

If you are not interested in upharm or rpharm and don't want to be contacted about it then select "no i am not interested " for both and then choose what location(s) you would prefer.

This was an email I was sent a while ago, seems like it was mass emailed to a lot of people.

There seems to be ongoing confusion about exactly what the RPharm and UPharm programs are. Think of it this way…..

We offer three versions of the PharmD degree.

  • The first version is the generic PharmD (offered on both the Chicago and Rockford campuses). Students define out their own electives and select from various types experiential sites.

  • The second version is the “RPharm” PharmD. This takes the generic PharmD program and basically defines out the elective courses and experiential courses to include a rural “flair”. The purpose of the RPharm is to prepare pharmacy students for future practice in settings that are more rural in nature. The program is limited to a select number of qualified students. An additional RPharm application and interview are required. (offered only on the Rockford campus)

  • The third version is the “UPharm” PharmD. This takes the generic PharmD program and basically defines out elective courses and experiential courses to include an urban “flair”. The purpose of the UPharm is to prepare pharmacy students for future practice in settings that are more urban in nature. The program is limited to a select number of qualified students. An additional UPharm application and interview are required. (offered only on the Chicago campus)

If an applicant checks the UPharm or RPharm box on the supplemental application form, we automatically send information about the relevant program to that applicant. If the applicant didn’t understand exactly what the program were at the time the box was checked, the UPharm or RPharm application may just be ignored.

Hopefully this further clarifies the different versions of the PharmD that we have to offer!

All the best,

Dr. T

So my interview is next week but I have yet to receive any kind of information from UIC regarding the location of the interview. Should I expect an email soon because so far all I know is that I have to show up 30 minutes before my scheduled interview time but where do I show up (and parking info would be nice too)?

Yes, they will send you more info. on location and everything, but it might be kind of late. I remember my interview was on monday and I got an email from assistant dean on saturday night and the auto email reminder on sunday. The interview will be at Office of student affairs (room 154) in the college of pharmacy building. address there is 833 S. Wood Street, Chicago. They reccomend you to park at psps(paulina structure) or wsps(wood street structure). But I park at lot E/E1 that is on paulina street which runs parallel to woods, so it is literally on the back of pharmacy school building. Charges for this lot is $10.75 something for whole day. I hope this helps.

30 min interview slots? No tour, QnA, etc? Not the best first impression from UIC to me.

I was fortunate enough to receive an offer from UIC! Although I have one other program that I equally love(perhaps more). I want to hear from both programs and make my decision before I make deposit/commit to one school or the other. Has anybody received an extension of the admit reply deadline? Feel free to private me...

3/1/11

An update:
I talked with Dr. TenHoeve about this, and UIC does not offer deadline extensions. He said they will be accepting more out of state students this year because of all of the new schools of pharmacy in Chicagoland.

Anybody interviewing next monday the 14th? My interview is schedueled at Rockford and I am scared to drive in the snow 🙁 Unfortunately, there are NO flights that go to the airport there

If anyone has been accepted to this school, please let me know so you can be added to the roll call for 2014/2015. Please post in the sticky thread or PM me your acceptances and the program you will be attending (if accepted to multiple schools).🙂

Being a Chicago area native, as long as it doesn't snow during/few hours before you drive to Rockford from O'Hare the interstate should be in good shape and driving shouldn't be a problem.

Will everyone who has gotten in please post your stats? I am curious as to how my stats compare and who they take from all those they interview. Thank you!!

Yes, can someone please answer this? reading the state regulations, I found nothing suggesting OOS UIC students can gain IL residency...

Has anyone interviewed at UIC within the past couple of weeks and heard back from them? I'm super anxious to hear back. I read in earlier posts that they reply as soon as two days after your interview. I interviewed on Friday the 4th, and I'm starting to get worried. In your experience, how soon did they respond?

You still got oodles of time 🙂. I heard back after a week and two or three days. Nothing to worry about, although, I do know how you feel.
