haha, she did have a buddy!! But i think she hated everyone including me , she never stopped biting me!!! if i ever get a rodent again... mice all the way
 
Aw, that's sad. A grumpy hamster. I've heard good things about rats, too, but I don't really know anything about pocket pets. Rodents are just a little different from horses.

lol maybe just a litttle different haha i wish i had more experience with horses. i do love them and i like the small amount of time i have had with them so far but i cant imagine owning one and being able to ride it...amazing! I'm really looking forward to all of the LA experience i get in vet school...when that time comes

Rats are great too! but i feel like they need even more time to bond with you (almost like a small cat) and i dont have time enough for my one cat already. but ya i love rats, they are really sweet once you handle them. they liked to be held like a baby lol
 
Rats are awesome 🙂 I have 2 and they crack me up. They make me smile all the time. They are super sweet and really do bond to you. <3 them! 😀

I used to have 5 rats, haha. *rubs the back of her head* They are amazingly intelligent and affectionate. Definately recommend over a hamster, atleast I could train my rats not to bite my finger off. All of the politely grab onto it and licked SUPER EXCITEDLY until I handed over whatever food I was attempting to deliver. No bites. 😀

I have 2 hamsters now. One is evil....I have to pick her up with a thick glove to clean out the cage and no matter how hard I try she just does not want to be friendly...maybe it is hamster menopause???

The other hamster is so sweet. She runs up to you and wants to be held. She will run to the front of the cage when I get home and put her little feet on cage bars and look at me with sad eyes. She is the friendliest hamster I have ever had.

aww the second one seems sweet! Do you have to separate them since one is mean? I had another hamster who was nicer (didn't bite as often lol) and i think it was cuz she was old. I dont know how to tell age on a hamster haha but she just looked much older and she wasn't as active. so she'd sit in my hands sometimes and i'd let her roam around the carpet. My evil hamster looked like the one in your avatar lol

Yes I have had to separate them. They did well together for about 6 weeks and then the nice one actually started to pick on the evil one. The evil one is about half the size of the nice one. The nice one is actually the one in my avatar. I got her a year ago December. I put up a picture of the evil one in the pets thread. Their names are Chubbs (nice) and Chestnut (evil).

While we're busy not being busy hijacking this thread I thought I'd chime in. I had one pet rat when I was younger and I LOVED him. If I ever have time to get around to having kids they will be getting rats over hamsters. I did have two nice hamsters but my rat seemed more affectionate and intelligent. He liked to sit on my shoulder and his name was....Nickademus

OMGGGG I CANT BELIEVE IT!!! im OOS and i thought penn was just lucky since they take more OOS applicants! YAYYYYYYYYY i cant believe i could REALLY be a vet some day. its been a far away dream for so long and now its almost real!!!

Rorke-yes, the Illinois interviews are all in one day. Its not as chaotic as you'd think..(i went through it once before...)

Seems like they interview a lot of OOS to fill those 30 OOS spots. Anyone know about how many OOS are invited?

From the u of i website:

"At this stage there are 300 (125 to 130 Illinois applicants and 150 – 175 non-residents) students left in the pool and they are all offered a personal interview. We interview all 300 on the same day utilizing 20 – 25 teams of interviewers made up of a College faculty member, a third/fourth year student and a veterinarian."
 
I got an interview as well! So now hopefully at these schools that I'm interviewing at, at least one them accepts me.

So Illinois really only accepts about 30 OOS applicants? wow odds still not too good even after an interview invite.
 
It seems so, but your waitlist also moves a ton I read from last year 🙂 Also, 30 is a lot compared to some other vet schools!!! Look at the glass half full 🙂
 
No interview. I am kinda sad because I really liked the sound of the new curriculum, but on the other hand I am not as upset as I thought I would be. Congrats to everyone who got one and good luck!:luck:

YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!! i am hoping i dont hear from my other interviews right away because my mom gave me the impression on the phone right now that it would be nice if i could withdraw and save the money. but i really really want to visit the school (and my old friend in st. louis)!
 
hold on, where are you guys seeing if you got interviews or not? I'm assuming everyone looked on a status page? Where is said status page? I feel like I applied to Illinois so long ago that I can't remember how to negotiate their website...it wasn't in an email was it?? SOMEONE HELP!

according to last year, our interview will probably be on the 26th this yr.... but just guessing lol last year it was 20 something..blah i just looked it up an hr ago and i forgot now haha but probably late feb

ps- my penn interview has been resolved! thanks for your info 🙂 glad we still get to meet!

Awesome! I bet you feel loads better now that it's been taken care of. And oh man, February is going to be as busy a month as January...this is so nuts!
 
Wait, really? A Monday? That is rather inconvenient. I bet my professors are not going to be happy with me missing all this class 🙁 Oh well.
