Ug. Monday.

I totally feel you.

PS I LOVE your Sprockets Quote. I am Dieter! "Vould you like to touch my monkey? Touch him! Love him! Liebe meine abst-monkey."

PSS Your hubby seems super-nice! He left me a funny voicemail, "This is LucidSplash's husband..." Lol!

LOL - Glad you guys had a good chat to get the ball rolling. If he slips up and calls you Lady Wolverine at any point, I apologize in advance - I kept calling you that when talking to him before I knew your real name and now he's trying to make the mental switch over

Seriously...I had such a difficult time getting myself out of bed this morning. I definitely contemplated skipping my first class, but then decided that since I just had a week off for spring break, it wouldn't kill me to show up. Stupid music classes only allow 3 absences before dropping you a letter grade, so I must spend them wisely. 😉

SQ, I'm intrigued by your music background. You'll have to play for all of us sometime! I'm not a musician myself, but I like to listen. (Although I sing a mean karaoke...but only after a couple long islands. )

Oh yes, and on a completely unrelated note based on Suzie and LW's posted pictures:

I'm glad I'm already married going to UMD because I definitely would be completely ignored by any eligible young men anyway in favor of my far more attractive classmates. Although I know Suzie is off the market too. LW is going to knock 'em dead. None of the rest of you get compliments because you have not posted pictures.

Yeah, I'm a little weird in that regard. I mostly play classical music, so its not very exciting. This summer, though, I am finally going to sit down and learn The Devil went down to Georgia. I think it's a must-have in any violinists repetoire. lol Plus its probably fun to play when you've had a bit to drink and need cheap entertainment.

I've been looking into various Baltimore orchestras to see if there is one I can join, and I found a community philharmonic that only rehearses once or twice a week, so I am excited about that. I was really worried that I wouldn't have opportunities to play in med school. Hopefully there are some other string players in our class that might want to start a quartet or something. That would be a lot of fun. Of course then we would be obligated to play at functions and stuff, but thats alright with me.

LS, I have no idea what you (or anyone else for that matter) look like, but I'm sure you're every bit as attractive as anyone else in the class. Us girls have gotta stick together! There's enough competition for grades...we don't need to compete for the attentions of our male classmates...Besides, I'm sure your husband thinks you're the most beautiful woman in the world. And his opinion should be the only one that matters. 🙂

I wonder what the men in Baltimore are like? Single ladies like myself need to know! Maybe I'll find myself a precociously smart, yet socially malajusted PhD candidate from Hopkins...

And SQ, I love classical music! If you get up on the bar and play The Devil went down to Georgia, I'll buy you all the margaritas you want!!!

Oh, there is a picture of both Greg and I in the premed picture thread if you can find it. 😎 SQ is there too with her "boyfriend." And yes Greg's opinion is the only one that matters - a fact I'm glad of at this point. Who needs the stress? 😍

Ah yes, the premed picture thread. I believe I am on or around page 8. LucidSplash should be right around there as well...I think we both posted around the same day.

Dude, we are so gonna be the rockin'est class ever. I don't even care whether or not that's a real word.

I 😍 SDN. It totally keeps me from doing real work all day long.

Did we mention that we also look exactly like our avatars?

Believe me, after you've met me on our first day of class, you won't sleep for a week.

"Can't sleep...clown'll eat me...can't sleep...clown'll eat me..."

I wonder if SQ looks like a yummy chocolately-creamy Hostess pastry? (Or maybe she looks like John Fogerty from CCR?)

HAHHAHAHA seriously that avatar is so freakin creepy....

oh also, does anyone know what the stipend is for doing PSP?

I believe it's $1600. Not too bad for 6 weeks, (although I'll be taking like a 75% paycut 🙁 )

But it's better than paying for it!!!

Speaking of the 1st day of class. If you look at the social calendar from last year, it seems that orientation includes going to a different bar every night. I'm glad I'll be learning to buckle down and study right away.

Wow...I like my booze as much as the next guy, but that's a lot of drinking in one week! Lol...I better start practicing. Don't want to make an ass out of myself in front of new classmates.

Holy Moses, you're not kidding! That's awesome! I have a feeling that Maryland will allow time for some semblance of a social life.

By the way, we are catching up with the number 4 and 3 spots for the 2010 threads!! Go Terps! (Or O's?)

I wonder who picks the bars? We should petition to go to the place Coz suggested with margaritas in hubcaps. That sounds like fun.

Well, if it doesn't show up on the plan for orientation, we can always plan our own UMD SDN night out. Also, margaritas in hubcaps sounds like a good way for me to need to be carried back home. I think I need an aspirin just thinking about it.

We'll just strap a bottle of water around your neck along with a vial of aspirin. It'll be fun!

$1600! i thought it was $1200 for some reason. also, take into account living expenses for a month...we're not making any money at all 🙁

by the way, i'm not in the program or anything, just shootin the shyt.

LOL!!! While we're at it, can we strap on a box of ho-ho's and some hot wings? Just in case we get hungry later on and the kitchen is closed.

i just read your mdapps thing. would you go to colorado if you got in?? isn't it like $60 grand for out of staters?

Well I'm 5'3; I can't carry much. Greg is 6'5. We'll bring him along. I use him as a pack mule anyway. :meanie:
Sounds like my sister and her husband. She is 5'2'' and he is well over 6'. Tall women give her dirty looks all the time....I guess there is a shortage of tall men?

Above a certain height I suppose so. I'm too short; I can't see their faces so I guess I never see the dirty looks. But I never have to worry about how high my heels are.

I'm on the top tier of the waitlist, which means (according to CU) that I will get in, but after 5/15. I'm trying not to think about it too hard right now. It's $75K OOS the first year, but in-state for the 3 years after that. I really, really loved Colorado. Plus, I'm an avid skiier/outdoorsman (hence part of my reason for applying there in the first place). So, yes, I'm still considering.

It's very hard not to want to go to all of the schools at which I have been accepted. As I've said before, it feels like I'm looking a gift-horse in the mouth...even though I know that I can only go to one. I've been through this process before, and I know how agonizing it is to get rejected from every school that you've applied to...I think that's why this decision process is so difficult for folks like me.

However - as evidenced by my participation on this thread, I will most likely end up at Maryland. And that's not a compromise for me - I am so madly in love with my state school, it's ridiculous. But, as I said above, I almost feel like I have to agonize over the options, even though I have a strong "gut feeling." Each school that I am considering has its plusses and minuses...but Maryland has the most plusses. 😍

We can always plan a spring break/winter break trip to Colorado for skiing. That way you can get the best of both worlds. 🙂

Its opening day, the O's are winning, and UMD has a ton of drinking planned for us. I like this!

I have never even heard of any of those bars. Hmm..

O's are up 6-4 over the D'Rays! Gotta love ESPN.com! Yet another way to waste time at work.

That kinda freaks me out that you've never heard of those places...aren't you like our resident expert, Coz?

PS you haven't sent me your info yet! Do you prefer to remain anonymous?

Haha, no I just forgot. I'll go find the form.

And I'm no resident expert. My friends are the drunks (though I can drink), but they're also curmudgeons and hate going to new places.

75 grand!! holy freakin crap are you kidding me?? in-state tuition better be like 2 dollars a year after that. seriously though, is it like 8 grand a year after that?

I was thinking that myself, SQ! I wonder if UMD has a ski club? I know they have an outdoor adventure-type club that's into wilderness medicine. What kinda ECs are you all gonna do at UMD? Anyone else thinking about AMWA?

If we crank out 3 more posts, we'll tie U of M 😀

Aww...Bye-bye, LS! We'll miss you!

See you tomorrow!

Check again, I think we are at least one post up on them now. (yay!!!)
As for clubs...don't they usually have an activities fair or something at the beginning of the semester? I'll check them all out then, but I bet there are quite a few that would interest me.

Yeah...I remember they had this at Michigan. Freshman would walk around all the tables at the Diag...all overwhelmed and starry-eyed. I would always sign up for like 20 things. Then like 2 weeks later, I'd drop all but 2 or 3 🙂

Cozmosis said:
I have like 15 specialties I am thinking about so I'll probably join all the interest groups then jews for jesus or somewhere else I don't belong
Yeah, I was checking out the grand rounds times for each specialty. I definitely want to attend a few of those, since I have no idea what kind of specialty I want to go into.

Grand Rounds are always hit or miss for me...I've slept through my share of Cardiovascular GRs in Seattle. Good idea to check them out, though, if you're interested.

Thanks for the email, Coz. I'll get the first draft of the list to you guys tonight!

OK, it's time for me to finish up and hit the gym...but I'll check back before I go to bed! Hold down the fort, guys! I think we've surpassed Baylor!!!

Great! Our good ole thread is springing up! Any soul on board plays soccer? I'm big on soccer...and hoping to meet some like souls. Medicine and Soccer is a great combination! Ever thought of that? The DVD "How to become a doctor at the University of Maryland" had a short segment where these guys were warming up to play soccer. That got my soccer juice flowing.....

I played YMCA soccer when I was younger, does that count? 😀 I wouldn't mind playing again, but I'm sure I'm just terrible at it.
