umich is amazing but wowww free tuition is so incredible. did u try negotiating by leveraging ur full tuition scholarship with mich?

I think a food for thought could be reaching out to research mentors at UMich this summer and do research with them over the Summer (maybe after M1) and also doing multiple away rotations there. I know mentors that have went to Michigan State than have gone on to do residency at top places like Stanford so its a great school! You can definitely mention that you were an accepted student there and I think could be receptive (know similar stories of accepted and non-accepted students that do this with top schools near there area; think like NYC and Boston and others too)

I think 200k is a justifiable price to pick UMICH here, but I also am picking a lower-ranked school over a higher-ranked school for the money lol.

Best of luck to you on your decision!

Thank you! Yes I did try, UMich did not budge whatsoever, and said that I will have to make my decision with my current financial package.

Thank you so much! Best of luck to you on your journey as well!

This is such a tough position!!! Personally, I would go with Michigan State for the money. 200k worth of debt will continue to grow throughout residency/fellowship. I would much rather come out of med school with 0 debt than with a degree from UMich.

Whatever it is you want to do, I am sure that you will be able to get to it from Mich State as long as you work for it
