Just wondering if anyone knew anything about the University of Nebraska's program?
Thanks
I liked it when I interviewed there. Small program, but good. UNMC does a lot of liver transplants for a small University. That's kind of the coup de gra of cases that the residents talked about. They complained they lack on regional and cardiac, but so did every other place I went to (except Cleveland clinic, they do a few hearts I hear).

The director, Tinker, is a cool dude. If you interview there he'll ask you about where you applied. Tell him straight up what you like and don't like; he'll give you his opinions of all of the programs. He'll tell you just what he thinks of the programs, he's a real no bull **** guy.

Omaha may leave something to be desired, unless you go to medical school in a place like Grand Forks, Vermillion, or Kirksville. Kind of flat and fairly cold. It's defnitely cheap, my old roommate bought a four bedroom house for himself on just his intern salary. There's always gambling across the river in Iowa if you get bored.

In short, I liked it. I'd call it strong second tier program. If my fiance would have been down for four years in the midwest, I probably would have ranked it higher. Just my $0.02

One of my attendings on my anesthesia rotation did his residency there. He was fantastic. Highly respected and trusted by all of the surgeons, a fantastic teacher, and really good with patients. Because of him, I am definitely applying there.

any updates about the nebraska program since these replies are 5 years old

I think the above is fairly accurate still. I do believe it's a good 2nd tier program. Omaha isn't anything wonderful, unless you like college baseball.

You'd probably get good training there, as most large academic ctr's, just depends on what your thoughts are with living in midwest. Last time I drove thru Nebraska it was flat.

IIRC, they had at least one unfilled spot last year FWIW. I didn't apply there so I don't have any other info on the program.

Just wondering if anyone had any new info to share about this program, thanks
