I just watched some Scrubs on Comedy Central and didn't feel as guilty as I usually do. 😉

For Ross, it seems like notegroups are probably going to be the best source because he didn't follow his syllabus that closely and actually didn't know exactly what was in the syllabus because Blair edited it a lot.

i thought the syllabus made a lot more sense than the ms2s said it would. my question is this, since Blair is the one who actually decides which questions go on the test, do you think the material he considers important (ie testable) is mostly in the syllabus?

Well, the tests have seemed to be mostly from the syllabus since I could do okay on them without ever going to class or listening to notegroups. But Blair takes copious notes during lecture, so I don't know. My guess with Ross is that Blair edited the syllabus a lot after complaints from MS2s -- it was funny because Ross seemed to have no clue that Blair did that until they talked about it in class.

Yeah, I had read the guide section on Ross, and it was just hammering on how it was all just his research; true, but not to the extent that it made it sound. I'd bet Dr. B listened to one complaint too many. I'm sure most really do care about the direction of the courses, but he seems like one of the least likely professors to just pay lip service to the whole feedback thing...

And he doesn't give us a long speech about how perfect the class is before asking us to fill out the course evaluations. 🙄

I am currently on the in state waitlist and was just wondering if anyone knows about waitlist movement, thanks!

I am currently on the in state waitlist and was just wandering if anyone knows about waitlist movement, thanks!

Unfortunately I don't know anything about that -- has anybody heard anything? The general rule is that movement will pick up following May 15. The superstars who got into Harvard might decide to drop their OU spots.

Good luck! :luck:

For all the waitlisters out there... the next few weeks are the best for movement, although movement will trickle through up until July. Plan for the worse but hope for the best - between 20 and 40 people get off the waitlist at OU. [Someone has posted the exact stats before, but I don't feel like looking for it, nor do I know where exactly they came from on the OU website].

Today is the day for everyone to drop multiple acceptances. I remember how much I was looking forward to this day last year...

Holy crap!

We better get at least one point back on Pharmacology. According to my calculations I've got an 89.4% right now. 😛 Noooooo!

He already promised we'd get some back, so you're in the clear. Unfortunately, we have to get FIVE bonus points for me to make the cutoff... so it looks like it's an 89 for me 😡 🙁

Well, Ive heard that :O) is very very generous with giving points back in the final....hope its not just urban legend....fortunately/unfortunately for me I went into the exam with an 85.....made for no stress though...

That kind of grade is the story of my life so far.

histo is going to be the second class this semester in which my grade will be determined by the number of questions we get back on the final. i guess some chance is better than no chance.

From Dr. W's email, it sounds like we'll get at least a few back. We got 3 last time, right? I love Dr. W.

FYI: 9 back last year in pharm + 3 that were miskeyed on the form.

So my thoughts about Ross's stuff now -- notegroups, notegroups, notegroups, notegroups. Luckily they seem to be pretty good and fit closely with what he talked about. Read the syllabus but my hunch now is that notegroups will be super useful.

I feel like sharing this while it's still fresh in my memory.

Next year when Dr. Ihnat posts his suggestions for studying for the final, don't believe the advice that First Aid or Roadmap will be sufficient for review. It will definitely catch some points for you, but if you really want to excel (and not be worried about getting points back) you need to go back to the syllabus or notegroups with a fine toothed comb. Easiest 25% of the questions my foot.

Enjoy your summer. 🙂

Absolutely true. Dr. Inhat is a nice guy, but his questions were incredibly nitpicky on the final. Most comprehensive finals are actually easier, because they should be composed of the important tidbits of the course (i.e.-you should be able to study board review books).
Not Inhat's questions. They were seriously as detailed as the questions off of a block exam.
One guy that I know went back and read the ENTIRE pharm syllabus for the final. He did exceptionally well (but at the cost of what portion of sanity?). Yes, Sharp I'm talking about you. 🙂
I on the other hand, was of the opinion, that it's just wasn't worth it to read 6 inches of syllabus instead of 1/2" thick Road Map, in order to get a couple extra points on the final. That saved me days worth of studying, days worth of sleep, and it probably added a few weeks onto my life span.

(Oh and those countless hours didn't make much of a difference in the end. We both made an A in the course).

WITJ, I forgot to mention it earlier, but I like your new avatar. 😀

As much I disliked memorizing a really short list of drugs for neuro, I think I'm going to hate pharm.

There was 1 keyed wrong on the pharm final, but we got 12 questions bonused. Nice!

Dr. Ihnat said that he was extremely lenient. 😛

Speaking of freebies, it looks like we got a ton of stuff back on our histology written. GLP, I hope that's enough to boost your grade.

genius. i got both of the questions after he accepted multiple answers plus i missed the 3 thrown out, so i feel better. however, now it just puts more stress for me on neuro. cry me a river, right?

Sometimes, I think being completely average is okay. No stress to pass, no stress to excel. Just 😎

That's how I justify my mediocrity anyway, in a Stewart Smiley sort of way...

Seriously!! So nevermind what amx said earlier... First Aid & Roadmap turned out to be enough for the final after all 😉 After our 12 bonuses and miskey, my final exam grade jumped from an 86 to a 96.5 😀 I also ended up making an A on the IHI final with just BRS Path & First Aid, so I would DEFINITELY not recommend trying to flip through 1000's of pages of IHI syllabus for that one either.

EDIT: I just realized I made the IHI final sound a little too easy... I knew BRS Path backwards, forwards, sideways, diagonally, and upside down. So you do REALLY have to know all of BRS Path, I'm just saying you don't have to know MORE than that 🙂

Thanks 🙂 Pharm was definitely one of my least favorite classes... I really hate trying to memorize minute details about drugs that I know on the wards I can get from my PDA in seconds. I think we should definitely know drug classes and a few facts about the top 25-50 prescribed drugs, but forcing us to memorize stupid side effects and drug interactions of every single one of hundreds of drugs seems really dumb.

So with neuro tomorrow, do you guys think the Ross questions are going to be sort of bigger picture? His lectures were definitely big picture, so I've been avoiding the small details. I'm just hoping that's not going to screw me since he has 24 questions on the test. 😱

So I just made a noise complaint on my stupid neighbors who have been revving their Harleys seriously like every 10 minutes. They don't seem to be going anywhere -- instead they're just hanging around revving their engines because I guess that's cool or something. So I guess another thought for the 2011 people looking for housing is to stay away from any neighborhood where you see Harleys. 😡 Now I'm wondering if they'll actually do anything with my noise complaint.

The only thing I remember about Ross's section was make sure you know which side does language vs. emotion for the different prosodies, aphasias, etc. The MLF pathway... umm... I forgot the rest over the summer. 😉

Glad it's you guys taking the neuro final. I think I'd be lucky to get a 50% on it at this point. Now... ask me a heart murmur question or how to measure a liver span and I'm your man. 😉

Well,
I talked to Dotty a week or so ago, and she informed me that there had been a total of 20 people taken off the waitlist so far, 11 resident and 9 non-resident. This was about May 1st or so. As far as waitlist movement beyond May 15th, 159 deposits have been paid leaving 3 spots that Dotty contacted and confirmed their withdraw. The total off the list include those three, and I'm not sure if they were res or non-res. The fact of the matter is that one can hold on to multiple acceptances as long as they are willing to forfeit their meager $100 deposit. That means waitlist movement can happen, as it did last year, all the way into August.
To all my fellow waitlisters, keep the faith. There are now only 36 of us remaining. Chances are getting better; we only need other waitlists to start moving. Do us all a favor and come back to post on this thread if you get any other news. Maybe we can all leave with our sanity? Best of luck.

😎

Actually AMCAS doesn't allow you to hold multiple allopathic acceptances technically after May 15, but supposedly they don't do anything about it until June 15. Also, you can hold multiple acceptances beyond that date if you're still waiting for financial aid information to make a decision. Most people don't know that one, though, so May 15 works out as the de facto last day to hold multiple acceptances. I'm guessing the remaining movement is going to be from people in the class who get in off waitlists at other schools. Oh yeah, you can also still hold an allopathic and as many osteopathic acceptances as you want, so if someone decides to go to OSU later in the summer that could cause some movement.

Oh yeah, editing to add a good luck! :luck:

I just got the big red envelope yesterday. :hardy:

It was pretty crazy. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that we'd decided to go to LMU-DCOM in Tennessee. My wife was supposed to leave this Saturday to find a place to live. Now we get to stay here! We are super excited and grateful.

Good luck SoonerFan and Everyone else too!

Congratulations! I will be MIA for the next week as I'm about to jump on a plane for a very well-deserved end-of-the-year vacation!!

Congratulations to my fellow '09ers for getting through an incredibly hard year, the '10ers who THINK they had an incredibly hard year, the '08ers who are rolling their eyes about how I thought second year was hard, and the '11ers who have the longest summer of their lives ahead of them that they'll wish had been even longer when August finally rolls around. 😀

So we're done -- how cool is that! I'm just glad that I will never have to take another practical in the gross lab again.

Today was the first time I've had a practical where I was like "Wow....I know all this crap"

There was only one downstairs I had no idea about. #21

and upstairs I was nailing em until #42-46....cross sections of nuclei...I couldn't suck more at those.

I just happy as a pig in **** that I am going to MS2...I was super worried after monday.

Well....EtOH time !
Me and Bagel-Babe are doing bodyshots off each other all night! 😉

j/k

no ****...I've been tryin to get a refund on these:meanie: Class of 2010 shirts

Awesome! 🙂 Congratulations to you and the rest of the new MS2s. 😀

Sorry we disturbed you guys this morning during the neuro written. 😉 It's hard to contain the excitement that is preparing for the last exam of the last test block. You'll know the feeling in 12 all-too-short months.

Now it's time for a much deserved weekend over before plunging headlong into Step 1 prep. Enjoy the summer, folks, and do something fun.

When do I get to call myself an MS3?
