I received a waitlist letter stating that I am excellent but not extraordinary.

1. Why must they insult me? Just tell me I was waitlisted.
2. I Love Pitt.
3. Do they reject anyone post interview?
4. Does anyone know how many people get in off the waitlist? ( I know that their waitlist is ranked and that there is a regular and high waitlist.)
5. If you received this letter let me know, we can form a club.

Yay! Pitt WL club. I doubt we will have much success, they accepted a larger number of applicants already, but then again a lot of people decline their acceptances.

I'm in he club, I dont have any answers to any of your questions, but Im in nonetheless

I'm in the club. early feb for me too.

For those of you that are currently in the Pitt waitlist club:

1. Is Pitt your top choice?
2. Are you an in-state applicant?
3. I still haven't heard if the reject anyone post interview.

Has anybody who interviewed mid to late February heard a decision yet? I'm still waiting...I interviewed Feb. 17.

Interviewed late February, and got a letter last week that I'm on the waitlist. Did you guys get a line in their letter about "I expect your application to be met with eventual success."?

I got that line also...i think we're very high on the waitlist...how many people got this line. Can someone put up a poll? im not sure how to.

Hey DNM, I'm a fellow late February Pitt interviewer myself. I called the admissions office just this afternoon and asked if they had come to a decision on my application. The only information she had for me was that my application had gone to the committee last week, and that I should expect a letter in the mail within the next week or two. Not too promising, but not terribly ominous either...

In regards to the website, I read on a previous thread that the status page gets updated with something to the tune of "A correspondence has been sent to you", but doesn't reveal the contents of the letter. So again, don't freak out when the status doesn't say you were accepted. It's going to be a long few weeks...

Good luck!

i tried to start this thread few months ago, didnt get much of a response, guess now theres more people in the club...i've been waitlisted since nov, october interview

i actually heard that since this was the first year of rolling admissions that they were more strict about who they accepted (despite the fact that a lot of SDNers have gotten in) since they didn't know expected % actually taking the acceptance and coming to pitt...

i'll definitely be goin if i get off the waitlist, top choice...otherwise its VCU for me

I'll join the club - I'm waitlisted for the MSTP. I really loved the school and have been waitlisted since October. The wait is awful, but I've let the school know in a number of ways that they are my top choice. So, hopefully we'll all get some good news in the coming months.

Joining the club too. Been on the waitlist for a few months now and hoping that lots of people will drop their acceptances!

My line was and I quote, "My earnest hope is that your application will meet with success."

waitlisted since jan....anyone already ask what the typical numbers pitt takes off the waitlist every year?

Just wanted to say best of luck to all of you! I'm applying to Pitt this summer, so I'll be watching your thread to see how it goes for you all (or "yinz" as we say in the burgh). Good luck!

hey all,
Pitt has to take many students off the wait list because many of the students accepted to pitt are also those accepted by the harvards and johns hopkins type schools. Don't stress it. I heard about half of students interviewed are accepted at pitt, which means many students drop their acceptance.
good luck all

1. Pitt is my top choice.
2. In state
3. I got this same exact line.
4. Wouldn't it be hilarious if they actually differed this dumb line based on where you were on the ranked waitlist?
5. Please don't tell me the wait list is actually bigger than the rejection list...
6. Who the hell is Earnest?

I'd like to start a list of the lines they give us:

"My earnest hope is that your application will meet with success."

Did someone else say "I expect your application to be met with success"?

Any others? lol

Pitt is also my top choice school and I recently interviewed (last week actually). Does it take about a month to hear a response? I have heard that if you are accepted you recieve a phone call... not sure if that's true. Good luck everyone!

My student host said you get a call if you get in off the waitlist. I think you get snail mail if you get in. But I could be wrong, I was waitlisted.

Is that a quote or of the top of your head?

I second the poll request.

it takes about a month.....at my interview, the dean specifically told me to call/e-mail if i don't hear by then. i don't know about phone calls. i think the adcom notifies your interviewers if you get in, and then they can decide if they want to e-mail to congratulate you. so some people hear by e-mail and some wait for snailmail. good luck to all of you on the waitlist! like others have said, a lot of people accepted at Pitt tend to go to other places because they don't like Pittsburgh, so i'm sure there will be lots of waitlist movement. :luck:

I was accepted and I did not get a phone call. I actually found out because they emailed me and admonished me for not filling out my financial aid form yet, which surprised me since I hadn't heard back from them yet....then my student interviewer emailed me the next day, and I received a snail mail letter the following week. To whomever asked about Feb. interviewees, I interviewed Feb. 10 with Scoot. 😍

Just to fan the flames of paranoia here-- if you dig up the waitlist thread from last year, there were two groups. One that had the "your position on this list is high and it is my expectation that your application will be met with eventual success", and the other one. Apparently everyone with that "expectation" letter got in, as did some of the other ones.

I just dusted mine off here (to withdraw) and checked, and it looks like the same deal. Except mine also came with a message on the back in sanskrit, a decoder ring, 1,000,000 yen, and was delivered with a cache of weapons, and the next thing I knew, I was blowing up fort knox to disturb the market price of gold. Did anyone else get this one?

How do you look up last year's thread?

Sorry to tell you but this line actually does tell you where you are ranked. There are two lines:
1)The "earnest hope" line--regular waitlist
2) The "however you rank on this list is high, and my expectation is that your application will be met with eventual success" line--high waitlist

can this finally be cleared up forever so everybody knows where they are at???...irregardless regular waitlisters also have a great shot at getting in so good luck!

I think it's pretty clear. If they tell you "your rank on this list is high and it is my expectation that your application will meet with eventual success" then you're on the high waitlist, and according to last year's cycle, you'll probably get in. However, if it says "I hope you'll meet eventual success" you're on the regular list. Kind of ridiculous how one word (hope vs. expect) can make such a difference.

It's clear. Except some dude on the thread from last year got the regular letter and was in May 17th.

I got the regulat waitlist letter and after reading last year's thread I've lost some hope. And I hate to say it but most of the people who had the regular waitlist letter didn't get in.

I got the "highwaitlist" letter and Im still feeling quite uneasy. Do you think this year, first year of rolling admission, will hurt or help us? Some say that rolling = more people accepted = less ppl off the waitlist. Other say that Pitt is more cautious since its the first year, and actually accepted less

what do you think?

Hmm, I'm biased since Pitt is my top choice, so I would like to think they were more cautious in handing out acceptances during their first year of rolling admissions. But then again, this is coming from someone who got a regular waitlist letter. 😛

BS.... pitt will accept more b/c all schools do, the average applicant is likely apply to 15 schools, there is always people withdrawing.
I withdrew, loose to Bradley? what kind of medical school lets their undergrad basketball team loose to Bradley, I didn't even know the school exisited...
Now UNC, National Champs, lost the top seven scores and still makes the Tourney
👍

I interviewed at Pitt 2/24. Today I called and she said they should be
*sending* out my letter in a week (so 4/5) and since I am in CA I won't get it for a few days after that.

That seems like a long time. However, I know that the Dean passed away 2 weeks before I interviewed there, which is very sad, I heard he was really great, so I wonder if that has thrown off their decision-making process. It must have to some extent.

I got a 36, and I still am not in any med school. Take that. (3.85 gpa too)

I just withdrew. Good luck to those on the waitlist. Pitt is a killer school.
