Cool residents, relaxed atmosphere. Lots of one on one time with residents. Residents were very friendly and genuine, seemed to really like each other. Senior residents have a lot of autonomy, are taught to be attendings from early on. The PD seemed well-respected yet approachable. Lots of research options, supported by the department. Location is a plus for me, since I grew up there. If you're a big fan of outdoors, then this will be a terrific location for you. Pleasantly surprised by this program… huge volume of all specimens, very strong AP/CP, good book money, lot of fellowships, free parking, free UPMC shuttles, big name attendings, free laptop, program pays for free books, step 3 and boards and now vying for #1. PD and program administrator were very well-organized.

Completely agreed. Plus Pittsburgh is a pretty nice city. The only 'knock' against the program is the lack of centralization, but I don't think this is a huge deal.

[EDITING to add] I thought some of their faculty was strange. And the PD seemed only superficially nice. Also the program brags about going only to #10 on their match list to fill their 7 spots, but I think the odd recruitment strategies there have a lot to do with it.
