Program-Specific Info / Q's University of Puget Sound Fall 2019

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No I have not but I emailed asking about admission decisions last week and they responded saying we will know by early March!

I heard today that I was accepted with a scholarship but declined my spot because I already chose a different school.

Did you find out through a phone call?

Yes I did. I verbally declined my spot on the phone and they will be sending an email next week to formally decline.

Would you mind sharing your stats? I’m still waiting to hear back.

Did they mention if the scholarship is need based or merit based?

I received one too, but I didn't ask. That's a good question. How could they have assessed whether it was need-based though - through FAFSA?

Yeah they would definitely need your FAFSA info if it were need based. It has your expected contribution number on there.

I got in as well, got the news yesterday. I'm still waiting on my first choice's decision so I may give up my spot if I get in there.
I'm happy to be going to OT school regardless though!

Would those who got accepted be willing to share your stats? Much appreciated!

I just received an offer from my top choice so I will be declining my spot. Hopefully that helps someone 🙂

Exciting! What was your top choice?
Idaho State University. I am from Idaho so it's only $33,000 about for the whole program! I was torn because Puget Sound is such an amazing program and place, but in the long run ISU is best for me.

I got an email.. didn't get in 🤔

Congratulations to all that got accepted! I wish you all the best.

Has anyone decided to attend? I was accepted to a few schools and I’m really leaning toward Puget Sound. I know there was an info session on Friday, did anyone attend a get more information?

I did not go since I went to the OT info session last November. How did you like it? I am still waiting on UW's decision, but so far I am leaning toward UPS as well.

I have been accepted to my top choice so I’ll be declining UPS’s offer once my acceptance letter comes in.

I live in Montana so I have been unable to go. How was the info session in November?

I went to both info sessions from UW and UPS. Compared to UW, I felt that UPS care about even prospective students. Everyone was so nice and friendly. I can tell It's a student centered program. The campus is small and pretty. One of my friends who went to UW for his MOT, he said that UW faculty was also nice, but I did not get that impression from the info session. Maybe they only care about their own students.

Sure, my stat is not great though! I think I got into UPS thanks to my essay.

Overall GPA: 3.5
Pre-req GPA: 4
GRE: 302 3w
Observation: 80 hours in outpatient adult rehab, SNF, hand therapy
Volunteer: children's clinic, church, school
Work experience in research for 4 years
LOR: 1 OT, 1 professor, 1 supervisor

Thank you! That’s really helpful insight.

All of OTs who I talked with, they all told me that it does not matter which school you go as long as they are accredited. Most of them recommend me to pick the school with a cheaper tuition if you take loans out. I think I will give up on NYU because of that. I really hope to get accepted to UW. Fingers crossed!

Thanks! I'm working on the prerequisites now to apply to UPS this year 2019 for their entry level OTD. My GRE stats, specifically Q, are pretty low. I am local and currently working as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in a local school district. After attending the info session at UPS last year, I was thoroughly impressed with their program, facilities and above all their clinic.

My GRE Stats are not great, either. My writing score is low. I do not think Q section matters honestly. Lots of school focus on V and W. Good luck to you! You have a good background as a COTA.

Did anyone go to the info session on the 15th?

I did! Beautiful campus, incredible resources (re: in-house clinics, both peds and adults), kind and easily-accessible professors, and interesting coursework. I can send you the handouts, PowerPoint presentation and my notes if desired! 11/10 would recommend.

I was impressed with all of that as well when I went last year for an info session.

I agree such a beautiful campus! I declined my spot yesterday so I hope someone on the waitlist hears soon. Congrats everyone!
