Application Statistics for 2011 - 2012 admission cycle:
Applications received: 801
Students admitted: 145 Nevada campus & 112 Utah campus
Highlights of Admitted Students:
Overall GPA: 3.6
Median PCAT Composite Percentile: 69
Bachelor's Degree of Higher: 50%

Does anyone know how many students were invited to interview from the 801 applications that were received?

I interviewed on the 3rd of March in Utah and Dr. DeYoung said they received 800 applications and offered 600 interview invites, with 245 seats available (145 @ NV, 100 @ UT)

Is anyone else on the top 10 Utah waitlist? If so, when do you think we will be contacted. I feel like the wait-list has been starting too move very slowly since I turned in my wait-list package. I would like to build some communication with others in my shoes so let me know if your in the same boat

How many people were waitlisted of the 600 interviewed?

Doses anybody know which is the best PCAT STUDY GUIDE? (Please provide title, author, and edition of study guide you recommend, if you know it, so that I can look for it! THANKS!!!)

You should check out the PCAT sub-forum. There are a lot of discussions and recommendations on PCAT materials there. 🙂

I recommend Dr. Collins PCAT Self-Study Guide

I don't know the exact number but the goal was to interview over 600 applicants.

Sorry, I'm a little late on this reply. Look like other had this answered long ago...

I used the Kaplan PCAT study guide. It was very comprehensive and it was a good review of the materials that are on the PCAT. It also had some practice exams with the answers.

If you end up getting one, make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to go through it. I bought mine a month before I took the PCAT and I didn't start reading through it until a week before I was scheduled to take the PCAT. I ended up doing fine but I could have done better had I spent more time reviewing the material.

Does anyone in Henderson wait list get accepted yet? Do you know when Dr. Deyoung update the wait list again?

I can't believe they even interview ppl with such low GPA's & PCAT scores. Speaks volumes about the caliber of this university.

What makes you think that because a student has a "bad" PCAT score or a "low" GPA that means they are a bad student? All that matters is how well you perform and how hard you work once you get in pharmacy school, not all the other things leading up to that. I go to class with 4.0 students that flat out struggle in USNs program while others who you would consider a bad student do awesome. Besides, there is no way to make it through USNs program without busting your butt. The students who can't handle it are weeded out over the course of the program.

Actually, the reason for this is to weed out those individuals with high GPA's who lack communication skills. Can you imagine going to your local pharmacy and receiving consultation from a pharmacist who knows a lot but can't effectively communicate all that knowledge to the patients?

Hi, I'll be attending the South Jordan, Utah Campus this August, 2011. I was wondering if anyone has any advice regarding housing in the area? ie. where do most of the students stay?

Most students live right around the school within a city or so. I know of a few people that have families that live in a complex called Four Seasons or there is another one called Crossing at Daybreak. Both are only a few minutes away from campus. I would suggest taking a look at the classified section on www.ksl.com and use South Jordan zip code 84095 to narrow it down. Good luck with everything.

This is good info. Also try looking in sandy, draper, riverton, and bluffdale. These suburbs are also very close to campus. I will be living in bluffdale at the bluffs apartments.

Has anyone gotten any news out there? Last time I heard which was about two weeks ago, I was sitting on the top 5 list for the utah campus but I havent heard a single thing from anyone since then. Anyone got any news or anyone out there who has accepted, are you waiting on another accceptance somewhere else?

I've been on the top 5 list for Henderson since May 23rd. Hopefully I can have a spot in Nevada so you can take my spot in Utah. 🙂

OK Happy Summer to all of ya... and my post is regarding P1 students who ARE ACCEPTED AND are interested in finding a roommate or place to live when school starts...

Currently I finished the P1 year just like the rest of my class (NO SUMMER ) and would like to see who is interested to rent out an apartment with me... Basically I work as an Intern for a pharmacy and would like to move right next to it AND still be close to school...

The apartment is called Camden Summit

the apartment is located 4 miles away from school and 10 minutes driving distance... map... to be honest, Yes there are many apartments less than a mile from school but many of my friends say its a bad neighborhood and do not feel safe (Even a teammate from my group was robbed and her apartment trashed, other girls tell me they ring the door bell repetitively to check if someone is home... lol...) so if ya check out those apartments then be my guest... you can see or even ask some current students as well for an idea of the surroundings if u get the chance...

the apartments are gated with a very nice pool and right next to a grocery store plus prices are resonable with parking garage, wifi, fitness center, etc..

i dont have any preference if ur a guy or girl, more importantly pay bills on time, be clean, and STUDY! (jk first year isnt that bad just dont stress out like most of the class)... I will be working alot as I am currently working 40 hours a week at the pharmacy and is primarily the reason I want to live in those apartments plus they do look very appealing... i have been living on my own since i was 18 so I only want serious replys... if you want more info just MESSAGE me on SDN do not even reply to this post... i will only reply to messages...

it is July now and orientation is what? in august? if u want to check out the apartment lmk since i work right next door...

GL to everyone and CONGRATS to those who got in...

I just got called from Dr. Deyoung. I will be switching from the Utah campus to Henderson which will leave a spot open for Utah! Good luck!

I see that they admitted 145 at Nevada, but how many were actually offered admission?

I own an apartment/condo near the South Jordan campus and my renters just moved out. If you are interested in moving in it would be $700/month or $350 per room if there are two of you. I lived there while I went to the USN Utah campus. It is a very convenient location; located off 4700 South and just a mile from I-215. It is 20 minutes from campus. It is a lot less expensive than living in South Jordan or Sandy and still close to campus. PM me if you are interested! Best wishes class of 2014!

I was recently accepted to UTAH. However I am still completing one of the pre reqs this summer. Unfortunately my teacher is in her last year and is going on a grading frenzy. Currently half of the class is failing, including myself 🙁. Has anyone heard of people having their acceptance rescinded for getting a D or F in a final pre req? Are they understanding in any way?

If you don't have the pre-requisites completed (with a passing grade of a C or better) you won't be able to start your P1 year. It's as simple as that. If you don't end up passing then they might let you defer a year and start next fall after you complete the pre-reqs but you would have to talk to Dr. Deyoung about that.

I have never heard of someone getting their acceptance rescinded, however, your attending the school is contingent on you completing the pre-requisite course work. I'm sure it happens though.

May I ask what class this is? Congrats on Utah by the way!

class is anatomy. In a 6 week course. We are only given 3 hours of open lab for our practical! My teacher is not being understanding and about a third of the class has dropped already so now I am left to keep with the brightest students in the class to pass.

Is USN a year round school? If not, what do students do during summer? Rotations?

Yeah, it's pretty much year round. I guess it depends on how well you do though. After your first year you do a 6 week rotation at a retail pharmacy. Following your summer rotation you will either have 6 weeks off before starting your second year or you will be remediating material if you didn't pass it the first time around. Immediately following your second year you will start your third year rotations. You will get one 6-week block off during your third year rotations where, again, you will either be able to relax or you will be remediating material from your second year.

Of course if you were to be doing the MBA program concurrently with Pharmacy then you really have no breaks. Not only do you have to pass everything from the PharmD program but every potential 6 week break you have is spent doing MBA course work.

Cool Thanks.
Do most people in the program know each other? friendly?

Depends on how out going you are I guess. There is over a hundred students in your class so it's hard to really get to know everyone. You'll have a main group of students that you study and do team assignments with but there is plenty of opportunity to meet everyone if you want. For the most part, everyone is friendly and because it's a pass/fail system, it's a non-competitive environment and everyone is willing to help each other out.

yea there is rotations for 6 weeks its sucks but good experience and like pongchamp says we get 6 weeks off.... so get a job or go on vacation or do both 😀... dont stress over the summer... i havent prepared or studied anything for the upcoming p2 year (hopefully that doesnt hurt me) but yea dont stress (even during the school year dont stress lol)

as for the classmates... there are lots of little clicks and people tend to socialize only around their surroundings basically where they sit everyday... people are friendly just most are stressed out is how i see it and they study so GL to the upcoming year

Dear applicants!
I call this school " my 3years of pure memorization" we had no text book of any kind.It is all about memorization of power points from teachers.
when people ask me what school I graduated from I alway try to change
the topic.
I remember when I was in my 2nd year pharmacy practice,an older pharmacist from other chain pharmacy fun of the school saying
"Are u from that 3 year crush program"
I am telling u smart people,👎 I don't recommend this school for any applicant. They may probably changed their name from CSN to ROSEMAN because they had bad reputation.
Let me stop here for now.

It's pretty hard to take you seriously when you get the former name of the school wrong. CSN is a different institution.

does anyone have any insight on what happens if someone graduates from the Utah campus. DO we have to take a test that certifies us as a pharmacist in utah and then also take another test that certifies us as a California pharmacist? Is the NAPLEX the equivalent of the bar exam?

The NAPLEX is the national exam that every pharmacist has to take regardless of what state they plan to practice in. What differs is the state law exam. You only have to take the state law exam for the state(s) you want to be licensed in.

nice! congrats!, lemme know if your looking for a roommate lol

Hi guys,

I just got accepted into the Utah Campus today and I'm worrying the housing situation right now because it's the last minute thing. If anyone need a roomate please let me know. See you guys this fall.

Hey all, I'm so anxious for the first day of classes to start. Can current students comment on how the first day goes for us incoming students? 😛 😀

Also, is anyone not going to invite friends/family to the white coat ceremony? I don't want to make my family to travel so far, but maybe it's a good idea to?

The first three days will be orientation for you guys. Those will probably be the most boring three days of the whole year but they have to cover their bases and make sure the new students know what is expected of them, what to expect throughout the year and help you become more familiar with the pharmacy program.

Have fun with all that.🙂
