I'm thinking of attending UT this fall for their exercise science program (undergrad).
I plan on continuing on to grad school for either PT or exercise physiology after I'm done with my BS.
Just wondering if anybody here has heard anything/graduated from/or has had any other experiences with this university.

Is Univeristy of Tampa a private school? I went to Florida State for Exercise Science, and loved it. They have a great faculty, and even an internship program where you can work with the atheletes if ya want (I didn't do that.) It prepared me well for PA school.

Yes it is a private school. Did you work in the exercise science field before going to PA schol? If so what did you do?

Hi, I did not work in the exercise science field prior to PA school. Where I am from, they wanted you to have a Masters in Exercise Physiology in order to work in cardiac rehab...although a guy in my class graduated in NJ, and he had no trouble finding such a job with only a B.S. I was a medical/surgical assistant (unlicensed) at an underserved clinic prior to PA school.

UT is located in the middle of the ghetto. If I were you, I would go to USF if you are looking for a Tampa school.

No it's not.

You might have to drive through a questionable part of town to get to it but it's not in the ghetto. The same can be said for USF, I'd have to come up Fletcher Ave. and pass 15th st. and 22nd st. Real nice part of tampa there.

UT is on the edge of downtown tampa, it's beautiful.

Anyway my original question wasn't "is UT in a good neighborhood?" Thanks for the input though.

 are you from Tampa? UT is in the Downtown/West Tampa area......it's right next door to Tampa Prepatory School.

lol..i agree..UT is soo not in the ghetto. its next to downtown. its very nice inside and out. kinda old though. but i must say its painted quite thoroughly..(they paint it before each semester starts) anyway, USF is way more ghetto. not becuase of where it is, rather because of the students.

to answer the original question, UT is not known for its science program and if you are from tampa you should know this. UT is a business school. all of their other programs suck. so i would not suggest UT. plus its mad expensive. currently 19900/year plus books and living expenses. not worth it.

hey i am an exercise sceince major at tampa, and yes it is an expensive school but they give a whole lot of grants (at least to me), the exercise science program is actually pretty good, i am acutally at pre-professional allied health/exercise science major to be exact and i am looking to go to medical school, but yeah this school isnt well known about the country since we have a student population of about 9000 students, very small compared to USF 45,000 students. dont be discouraged by the size we have a great faculty and that last post is not quite on par with what this school is like, its a beutiful campus and we actually do have a really good business school, nursing program and an exercise science program, i am not to sure about the natural scienes but we have almost every major area of study and its not an "easy" school or anything just underrated because of the lack of knowledge about the school, most of our students are from mass, conn, pen, and ny, i dont know why but its a great school and you should look into it, espeically if your looking to go into being a PA, or PT, my major is actually geared towards PT and prepares you well for it.

I went to UT for my BA degree 15 years ago. I majored in psychology and minored in biology. UT was an awesome experience. I got a great education that prepared me well for my MS degree and the work I am doing on my Ph.D. in psychology right now. It is expensive but less expensive than Eckerd in St. Pete. If you have good grades and test scores, they give out tons of scholarship money (or at least they used to). For me, going to UT actually cost less than USF would have because I got a great deal of scholarship money. Profs are real nice and the main hall is very historic. I am trying to convince my niece to go to UT right now. USF is a huge school while UT is small and more intimate. In my opinion you will get a much better education at UT by far. The average student professor ratio is 15 to 1. At USF you will have huge overcrowded classes as an undergrad. As far as the neighborhood, its right across the river from downtown, Hyde Park is next door, its within walking distance to Bayshore Blvd and Davis Island. These areas are all older but very upscale. This school is hardly in the hood.
