I keep reading conflicting information online and even on UT's website. Does the University of Tennessee have a medical school in Nashville now? They advertise a campus in Nashville in partnership with Saint Thomas, there are also multiple news articles about this starting in 2015, but I don't see firm clarification as to whether Nashville is just apart of your rotations.

Thanks!

I'm fairly certain Nashville is just one of the rotation options and the actual school is based in Memphis (i.e., no separate school in Nashville). The Nashville part of UTHSC is a "campus," but I think it's basically solely for your clinical years.

Does that mean you rotate clinicals on the Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville, and Memphis campuses? Or do you get to pick campus and stay there? Sorry to change the subject, just wondering if you knew. 🙂

As far as my understanding from my interview there goes, you pick one and stay there for your clinicals! The choice is up to you, but I'm pretty sure you stick with it once you've made it 🙂

I heard that the students at the Nashville branch rotate through the Honkey Tonk on Saturday

I interviewed at UT a while back. They do not have a separate medical school in Nashville, but they are working on beefing up their clinical stuff in the area so that more students may do rotations there during 3rd and 4th year.

UTHSC College of Medicine is located entirely in Memphis - something I did not realize until I got the II (embarrassing, I know).

If you're interested in Nashville, Meharry and Vanderbilt are the two medical school options there. However, the targeted student bodies for UT, Vanderbilt, and Meharry are all very different, so fit is probably more relevant than location.

I interviewed at UTHSC last month. M3 and M4 students can choose to do all of their rotations and electives in Memphis, Chattanooga, or Knoxville. Additionally, the school is working to expand electives and rotations in Nashville through the St. Thomas Health System. Right now, you can only do a handful of the rotations/electives in Nashville, so your M3/M4 "home location" would be based in one of the other three cities. Additionally, from what I understand, you can do away electives at any of these locations pretty easily if you would like. It seems that Memphis has a larger variety of departments available from which to choose electives, but the other locations have other benefits (for example, more one-on-one attention from attendings, etc.). If any current student has better info, please jump in!
