University of Texas Application Thread

The College of Pharmacy considers you an undergraduate regardless of whether or not you have a degree.

Not exactly. For financial aid purposes, if you have a bachelor's degree, you'll be considered a grad student for FAFSA. If you don't have a prior degree, you'll be considered undergrad till you complete P2, and then you'll be considered as graduate student status.

The 2010-2011 PSAR states that UTexas pharm accepts and 1%out of state, out of ~120 in the class that leaves at most 2 spots for out of staters. I would not bank on UT if you are an out of stater solely based on that statistic.

Don't let Walker scare you off. That statistic's not exactly accurate. I'm an out of state student, and I asked during my interview if that would be held against me. I was told the low number of out of state students enrolled is due to the fact that not many apply in the first place. If you look at the statistics from last year, we had 50 out of states students apply, and 10 were accepted. 6 of them declined admission, so the stats show only 4 out of staters enrolled. Same as the year before - 12 were accepted and 8 declined, leaving 4 enrolled. If you feel good about your stats and your interview, don't let the fact that you're an out of stater discourage you.

I interviewed on 01/29. From looking at this thread, a lot of people did well at the interview. If so many people did well and the final decisions are based on the interviews, is there a good chance that people who performed well during the interview will still not get a spot?

I'm scared!!!!😱

Also, to any Pharm D students at UT, do you recommend taking biochem prior to getting into the program? Will it lessen the load for the P1 year?

Look at the population sample. Most people who are members of this forum took advantage of the interview feedback section, which helps interview preparation tremendously. Plus those who felt good about their interview are more likely to post about it than those who didn't. We're only a handful of those that actually interviewed though, so if you think you did well keep your chin up!

Also, the final decision is based on your whole application, not just the interview score. So even if you aren't satisfied with how it went, it doesn't mean all hope is lost. 🙂

Soooo today I had a mock interview...And the guy definitely asked me a lot of unexpected questions lol. "What is your fav movie...fav book..." etc. He even talked to me about Zelda for about 3 minutes. He said I was a great speaker, but needless to say I'm not too convinced since I was kinda in my zone talkin' about Zelda 😉 Hahahaha! Funny...but kinda wish he had asked me some more difficult questions.

It's getting closer and closer!:xf:
I know... I'm starting to get scared. I have an o chem II test and a cal test tomorrow so I'm so stressed right now. But I've been shadowing pharmacists in a hospital for the last few weeks so we'll see - So nervous! - who else is interviewing friday?

have interview on saturday at 430 PM (i have interview on friday for purdue so couldnt schedule that day). anybody feel free to PM me if you want to hang out afterwards on saturday for post-celebration. first time being in austin so im excited to see how the live music capital of the world is like.

how much weight does the interview have on the z-score thing, like 30%, 40%?

good luck to all the remaining applicants for their interviews

From what I hear the interview is worth 80% of our application O_O Scary, I know.

I'm not sure about that percentage, Wilcox essentially barely mentioned it; he talked about the z-score for about 5 seconds without giving any numbers...

Not sure about this either, where did you hear that?

I thought Wilcox said this during his presentation for LPPA. 😕 But, that was a really long time ago and I may be mistaken and might've just heard it from someone else. Oh well, either way i'm sure it's a good percentage of it, since they probably care about how they perceive you in person more so than on paper.

I'll be interviewing on Friday at 1pm! I'm excited and nervous at the same time!

O.O - I hope thats slightly skewed but I do know that the interview makes or breaks an application.

I'm interviewing at 4! I'll be there around 2 though. And my dad's coming with me: He's a pharmacist and he wanted to come. Does anyone know when they do the tour?

If you get there early enough they might let you do it first, but it is scheduled to be some time after your interview.

Alright, I think I read in the interview section that the tour was usually held after all the interviews for the day were over. I was just wondering if that was still the case- thanks 🙂

The give you a tour of the pharmacy school building. here is are the labs, here is professor bla bla bla's office, you get the point. To be honest I did not find it terribly exciting

What did you expect? A personal escort up the tower and a pub crawl down 6th? It's pharmacy school.

Seriously Lauradiddle! Yes I expected a bar crawl down sixth. I accidentally send my bartending job application to the pharmacy school and they called me for an interview!

I actually really enjoyed the tour! The students that gave mine were extremely enthusiastic about the school, and it really made me excited to (hopefully) attend. It was very informative as well.

It wasn't super exciting for me either, but I shadowed a UT pharm student a while back so I got to see a lot of the building already. I did think it was neat to hear about some of the research the faculty is doing though, and they did a great job talking about opportunities within the school. Did you know you can study abroad in pharmacy school at UT? I didn't, and that's awesome.

I am currently involved in a new activity this semester that is not on the application resume. Does anyone know how I would go about telling UTCOP about this new activity? My interview is this Saturday.

I'm not sure if there is a way to let them know before Saturday, but I would definitely mention it during your interview. There would be plenty of opportunities to inform them about it and let them know it wasn't on your resume since you just started it this semester. I'm not sure if this helped at all lol but good luck at your interview!

Be sure to send Ann Spencer and email and she will let you know if you can add it to your resume. Good Luck!!

Thanks for your help. I am going to call the office and see if I can bring a updated copy of my CV to the interview. If not I will try to mention it during my interview

While at Texas Tech I was told that there is no writing sample during the interview at UT. Is this true?

When does UT send out the acceptance/rejection notices? Is it a phone call, email, letter, candy-gram...?

Thanks and good luck to everyone! 😀

Yes this is true. Last year the acceptances were sent out around UT's spring break and at the end of March via email.

I'm in a similar situation. I've become a pharm tech and have started shadowing pharmacists since I submitted my resume. I was just going to tell them in my interview but this is a good idea too -Thanks =)

Hey Velvet and Aayame, I'll be interview this Friday at 3pm. But I'll be there early too.
I'm most nervous for this interview.
Do you know how long the whole interview and touring process would take?

Dont worry, you will be fine. I will probably be the most nervous candidate there lol:scared:

I believe it's a 2 to 3 hour long process. Not too long>

I wish everyone luck! I'll be heading to Austin tonight after I get out of work.

I received an email back, and they noted the new activity in my file.

Could anyone tell me what the likelihood of getting placed in your top choice city for your 4th year at UT is? I would really like to complete my rotations in Dallas/Ft.Worth area. Also, would it be beneficial to take biochemistry prior to entering pharmacy school?

Lol - I'm so nervous! I haven't been able to prepare much as far as questions go! I'll be there around 2 I think. Then I'll sit around and freak out for two and a half hours -_____- Our mosque does it's friday sermons around one so I was going to go there first and then head straight over. I guess I have to find something to preoccupy myself with. Or I could meet up with those of you who went before me and you could tell me how it was 😀

no, AceInhibitor got into town for the interview tomorrow

That's what I thought at first, but I believe they meant the city, not the COP 😛

Thanks so much!! Yeah, that does make sense now that you say it that way!!! Does anybody know when UT's spring break is anyway??? And I can't remember if Dr. Wilcox said we will get notice right before, during, or after their spring break. The days are slowly going by>>>>>>>>

Their break is March 14-19. I also remember him mentioning spring break and acceptances in the same sentence, but I can't remember if he said before/after/during either :/ Can anyone else shed some light?

Someone please feel free to correct me, but I think at my interview, he said that they meet twice. They will let the first batch of acceptances know the week before spring break and the second batch the week after spring break. I have no idea how we know which group we will be discussed in but this is what I remember. Either way, I THINK everyone should know by the end of March/first week of April.

How likely is it that you'll get your top choice city for P4 rotations? Also, is there a popular apartment complex where mostly pharmacy students live?

I asked him about admissions and he told me the same thing. They meet the Wednesday before and the Wednesday after so you should know Friday-ish. I was also thinking that maybe they just fill the initial 125 slots on the first week and make a waitlist, or fill the empty slots later...but that doesn't make too much sense now that I've read yours- lol.

I think mine went all right. Interview was just okay. I tend to get uptight and rambled a little and didn't make constant eye contact but I said most of the things I wanted to say.

So thats something. I just hope that I threw enough in there to overcome the fact that I am very shy.

Other then that it was fun. The musical montage and the talk with Dr. Wilcox and later the Pharmacy students were very relaxed and informative. I enjoyed it

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE GOING TOMORROW!!!!!
