University of Texas Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How likely is it that you'll get your top choice city for P4 rotations?

As far as rotations go, it just depends on what you and everyone else in the class wants. If you want Austin, but so does most of your class, it's not as likely. Certain sites are easier to get than others. For example, you'd be more likely to get El Paso as a first choice than DFW...

Also, is there a popular apartment complex where mostly pharmacy students live?

Riverside. 😀

Just kidding. DON'T live there.

If living within walking distance to campus is important to you, north campus > west campus.

There are lots of great places to live in Austin outside of the campus area though. I recommend taking a look at the UT shuttle map (http://www.capmetro.org/riding/schedules_ut.asp) and seeing what's near one of the routes.

Good luck to those interviewing today!

I had my interview yesterday and I think it went pretty good! The students and faculty are awesome and made us feel welcomed. They tried their best to calm our nerves.

The interview just placed UT at the top of my list. I just fell in love with this school and will be crushed if I don't get in!

it seems like the interviews went smoothly for you guys (unless you guys are expert interviewees).

did they any question that threw you off or were alot of questions came from SDN

did Dr Wilcox mention about how much the interview determines on the z-score

good luck to those interviewing.

no. im in todays interview later in the afternoon. but i might come early to see the Darrell Royal Stadium, trying to visit every famous college football stadium.

btw did they ever ask any difficult questions/non-SDN questions?

Nope not at all!! I was freaking out for nothing! Just know your essays and yread over feedback and you will do great!

Good luck today! The student interviewer today is a really nice guy, met him at the TPA conference last year.

any chance we can know who our interviewer will be beforehand? also at the registration place will they tell us where the interview room will be?

sounds cliche, but i wanna go to this school so badly

They didn't tell me - they handed me a name tag and UT folder with my name on it.

Same here- it's the only school I applied to.
But when we were talking to the current students later I bought up this website because someone asked how many people were being interviewed and that was on here - and one of the students said "if you're on that forum, you're fine"

So don't worry! I had one about MTM (never heard of that before) and then what would you do if someone came in with a fake prescription - those aren't on SDN yet.

Good Luck!

EDIT- Can someone ask Dr. Wilcox how they determine who will get evaluated in the first ad com meeting and who will in the second. Is it by interview batch, alphabetical etc...
Please and thanks!

I was in the group that came in while Dr. Wilcox was talking to a group already sitting in the room. I know one of the current students asked if it was ok to show the video again since we missed it the first time.

Now, the agonizing wait begins! I'm probably going to drive my husband crazy.

I had the nicest interviewer today! Such a good experience, but I can't tell how it went 'cause it was so relaxed...It all went by so fast too.

Seems like everyone does well in their interviews though...Crazy how they have to pick only 125 people.

Don't worry- Mine wasn't amazing either but I think we still have a shot. *hug* It'll be fine.

I had mine last month. I don't think that it was the best that I could have done compared to my other interviews. But I know many people that felt like they didn't do very well at the interview but still got into to UTCoP. Just hang in there and best of luck everybody! 🙂

Glad to have mine done out of the way. Time to celebrate downtown 👍

my interview felt great but i think the syringe question probably prevented me from having a perfect interview - i stuttered a little bit on that question. but overall they asked me 5 questions that were definitely from SDN (including the syringe), so i was able to answer them with ease. im hoping my GPA and pharmacy experience take me to the promised land.

the fact that it costs a total of 87k total for out-state (after claiming tx residency) for four years is a damn good deal for a school of this reputation

im definitely hitting the 6th street to see what the talk is all about

hope all of us get in - in march or thru waitlist

So by the end of next month, will we know if we are on the waitlist or rejected too?

why is waiting so difficult? call me crazy but i never really got anxious for hearing back from schools, pcat scores, etc.. just forget about it for a while and you will find out eventually....

wow..wait a few months before I can even see my status as an applicant?
I knew the system was clunky..but this is...😡

haha..Anyways, thanks for the advice velvet- I predict we'll be seeing alot more of each other come january :meanie:

Hey, My prediction came true! I was in your tour group!

Anyways, that Q & A session was pretty intense, I definitely felt the intensity of people's nervousness.

2 Weeks! Ahh!

well in my case this is my third interview with three more to go. i just have a crazy feeling i might get denied to all. plus the interviews in march wont let me know till april so its more anxious waiting if i get denied to the three interviews i had this week

At least you have six chances... I only applied to the one. So if I don't get in then I'll have to wait another year and try again =/

I'm calling you out on being crazy 😛

I wonder why they asked me that if I applied to more than UT😕

I just thought of something....Since UT isn't on rolling admissions, we can just apply on deadline and reduce the anxiety from waiting for an interview. I got my interview invitation 1, maybe 2 weeks after I sent my application, haha.

Anyways, I have a question. Did anyone else interview with Dr. Ted Hills? And how was it to you? I can't tell if he's just really nice to everyone or thought I was a really good applicant.

Also, how many of us are 23+ years old? I felt kinda weird in there being the only one in my tour group with a BS degree.

I graduated last summer. About half of the people I talked to at the UT interview day (and at my other interviews for that matter) already had degrees or will be getting one this May. I'd say we're definitely not the minority 🙂

there was a guy in my group with two B.S. an MBA and an MHA....

I guess I always end up talking to youngens for some reason. Crazy

what is the hurry? were all is going to find out eventually, its not like only some people are going to find out... what makes you think about it so much? nothing you can do now affects your chances of getting in... unless you mail them a bomb or something... :boom: seriously. chill. out. What compels someone to get on a forum and post something like "omg im so nervous i cant wait 6 weeks for my pcat scores im going crazy ahhh!!!!" wtf????? if you are an impatient person, why would you consciously make it harder to wait by thinking about it all the time... I guess people have grown accustomed to getting whatever they want exactly when they want it, without having to wait.. unfortunate...
its takes a school a long time and a tonnnn of effort to sort hundreds of applications and pass judgement on each. UNDERSTAND THAT.

You're referring to me, Walker. I only have one B.S. though (biology). It was nice to meet you, by the way. As for the age of the applicants, I imagine I'm probably one of the older applicants at 28 years old.

With respect to degrees (as it was mentioned earlier), it seems as though there is a shift in more and more applicants having at least a four year degree and I personally believe that's a good thing.

oh cool, yea def remember you! I know the COP has alot of older students I can think of three off the top of my head over age 35 just in the P1 and P2 classes alone.
Wilcox makes very clear every time he talks about that UT is a true 2+4 program, meaning that they WILL accept students with only 2 years of prereqs and do not discriminate against ppl without degrees, i.e. that having a degree doesnt explicitly help you persay, but in reality, it does give you more time to prove yourself worthy by way of experience, extracurriculars etc..

as an aside, you already have 'Your Name, B.S., M.H.A, M.B.A' its going to be 'Your Name, B.S., M.H.A, M.B.A, Pharm.D.' that is such a legendary amount of letters after your name.....

.

edit is i deleted my rant. Not trying to make enemies. WMW, my "calling you out" was a sarcastic jab at my own stress; I'm allowed to be nervous and excited if I want to be.

question about the z-score; is the interview, pharmacy experience, GPA weighted the highest or every section weighted equally?

I dont think wilcox explained to anyone about how he calculates it. that being said, i remember him once saying the PCAT is the least important thing to him and that experience and LORs are the most important to him

ic. damn LORS and pharm experience are the most important and the GPA and PCAT is still 3.6 and 76 respectively. crazy competition out there

chill out homie, ever heard of a joke, no harm intended

edit- pretty much what klar said

just saying what I think, that it'll probably be better if you can forget about it for a while

I'm a UT student and a reapplicant, and last year, the people who got accepted after the first meeting found out the Friday right before our spring break. I don't remember when people found out after the second meeting. I remember being very sad, though.

being accepted before spring break would be amazing. That would result in probably the best spring break ever.

I guess pertaining to topic, do they actually reject anybody? Or are the people who are not accepted just all placed on a ranked waitlist?

They reject. I don't remember when, but you'll only find out by snail mail. I'm pretty sure it's before May.
Does anyone know how many people are on the applications committee?

I remember Dr Wilcox mentioned the Friday before spring break which would be Mar 11th. What was the other day?

I heard it was 24?

and Ace, I think it was the week after Spring break

Trust me, they said that last year, but people got emails the Friday before Spring Break. I remember checking my email every day during Spring Break because people were getting emails over -- I think -- a 2 day period.

Yes, but I was answering someone's question about rejection letters. And if you get rejected, you won't get the letter for a while after people got accepted.

I noticed that, too. I felt super old when I took the PCAT, but I've noticed at the interviews people are more around my age (23). I think it's a good thing though as well. I mean, I don't know about anybody else, but I'm a LOT more mature now than I was sophomore year. Personally, I think it's a little weird that I'll be in pharmacy school with people who aren't 21 yet.

Last year people heard on the Fridays before and after Spring Break.

This year, it falls on March 11th and March 25th. This is NOT from anything concrete that any of faculty have said. Just experiences from last year.

That's what I was guessing too...

As far as age goes- I'm 19 and really glad that UT doesn't discriminate against those who have no prior degrees.

if yall want to know soo bad, why don't you just walk in to wilcox's office and ask him? or send him an email?? what is the gain of random speculation..

Dr. Wilcox said that they meet March 9 and 23 so hearing back on the 11th and 25th sound right.

AceInhibitor, I was in your same tour group.

I interviewed on Friday. Thought it went well. I was not asked a single question about myself or my essays. I have to wonder if he even knew anything about me because there was no indication that he did nor did he ask. I was asked solely ethical or scenario-type questions. Anyone else have this experience?

did you have stephen vickers?

Nope. But yeah, no "why pharm" or anything about my work or school experience or anything personal for that matter.

I hale also heard form folks who said they got zero ethical questions with many from their essays and about them... It seems like they had a few different question sets

Its typical to be anxious and want to know; what's wrong with that? I'm just trying to give those individuals some tentative dates to try and decrease some unneeded anxiety. At least you'll have some idea of when to expect communication from the college. I mean, this time last year I was very anxious since we didn't have as much information as you guys do this time, since it was their first time with non-rolling admissions. At least this time around, those of us who went through it last year can share some of our knowledge and experience. Everyone deals with the wait differently.
