I hear that. I feel like I'm eons behind already, and I haven't even gone through the first round of tests. :scared:

Yeah I've got 4 exams this week! Done with 2, 2 more to go... not feeling too confident though. Looks like I'm doing an all-nighter tonight 🙁

I felt like I 'bounced' around in my interview as well, and when I answered I may have answered with more or less than they asked for. Oh it's going to be a hard waiting. Thing is I'm taking classes for another school now so I'm done with classes for UT. If I do get accepted, I may end up dropping these classes. Until then...

Wow, I just lost $100 applying. The place I took summer class after my 1st year didn't get send my damn transcripts. I called them the thursday the week before the deadline, and they said 2-3 business days. It's been been 8 and they hadn't gotten there yet. So I called and they were never sent. I'm gonna go burn the place down.

So did you call UT and explain to them the situation and they told you it's too late?

you need to call them immediately; it might not be too late. all mailed documents go through the undergraduate office first and at this time of year stuff headed to the College of Pharmacy tends to get lost with all the high school seniors' applications to UT- last year there was an unannounced extension to the 10th of Feb for mailed stuff to deal with that trend. even if there isn't an extension Dr. Wilcox is more than likely to hear you out and work with you to get it in as 'on-time'

i am a re-app. i don't know when the interview invitations will go out to us but I emailed Dr. Wilcox and he assured me that all qualified reapplicants will be interviewed this year. apparently in past years if your interview score was fine or they didnt think it would change you wouldn't be offered an invitation but they'd only go on the changes to your resume' and essays.
hey thanks for the info. actually, i e-mailed dr. wilcox and that's exactly what he told me. anyway, good luck to you (and me)! 🙂

What does "bounced" around mean? Does it mean you switched subjects while giving an answer? If you gave support for an answer that came from a different particular experience from x years ago, etc., then that's a good thing--even if it's not directly related causally, if it relates to your argument, then it's useful--unless you mean something else by "bounced."

yeah i emailed him and told him the situation. he just said get it done immediately and he'd mark it down as my having finished by feb 1st.

what I meant by bounced around was that I may have gone off a tangent instead of directly answering their question. But i was quite nervous so I don't know if it sounded ok on their end or was it what they wanted to hear. 😱 we'll see soon anyways

I actually don't know, but I'm assuming it's somewhere in the neighborhood of $300-500 to hold your seat. Some of it is probably refundable--that varies from school to school.

Next week this time we can start worrying about the admission people looking over our application packets with a fine toothcomb...ye, i'm at work and it's kind of hard to focus

Amen to that. I'm still in "catchup" mode for school--only I'm not really catching up. Not really doing anything, except riding through waves of moderate anxiety--and sleeping late when I shouldn't. 😴

Any of the UT students: how much was it to reserve your seat after you got your acceptance.

Also, anyone notice we didn't have an onsite essay? http://www.utexas.edu/pharmacy/admissions/essay.html
No one said anything about it on here or during the interview process. I guess they dropped it.

I wish that I had the level of confidence necessary to be wondering how much it costs to reserve a seat.

I keep looking at apartments and restaurants in Austin, but I shouldn't because I'm going to be crushed even more if I don't get accepted.

As for the essay... I guess that I should have said something to help everyone out. Before the interview, I came across a brief mention of the essay being dropped in threads from last year's cycle.

They did away with the onsite essay last year. So I didn't have to do it either when I applied. It relieved a lot of my stress when I found that out. I think they use the PCAT writing sample instead.

I kind of would have rather had an on-site essay. For all of the standardized tests that I have taken that have an essay, the outcome seems random. I either get an average score or I get a very high score, even though I write the same way every time.

I'm certainly not the best writer in the world, but, going by their scoring system, I feel that I should have had a higher score. I have to wonder if someone in San Antonio simply didn't like my views.

whew! happy to hear you made it in time.

I tend to do pretty bad if there is a time limit for the essay. I made a 2 on the PCAT essay, but I do well on the papers we have to write in school. I probably would have bombed an onsite essay, too.

It's really frustrating, because I just can't get my mind come to up with anything in only 30 minutes.

I totally agree... I kept rereading the events of the day and dreading the part where we'd have to do an essay.. surprisingly enough, it was not there 🙂

Yeah, some of the info on the UT pharmacy website is a bit dated...the only reason I knew there's no onsite essay anymore is from hearing talk around campus. I think they should update that website!

If you're currently at UT student, there's not a deposit. I think it's UT, not the COP that wants the deposit. I think it was $300 when I went in as an undergrad several years ago, at that time it was not refundable.

Is it $300 that goes toward tuition or just used for reserving the seat?

Did we ever decide what was happening with the deny/defer/accept thing?

We all agree that meetings start on the 14th, but it's not totally clear if we will be reviewed by the 20th or if we'll just hear "defer" if they don't get to us by then.

Well, not sure how it's going to go down, but starting the 14th, I am going to watch my gmail like a hawk and if i haven't heard from admin (since Dr. Wilcox said e-mail is how they will notify us 1st) by the 20th, I will send an email to Dr. Wilcox asking the status of application and reaffirm my interest in the school.

Has anyone else's PharmD app status shown a change for the PCAT scores? Mine has had my score from last year, but there is a newer entry from 1/30/08. Does anyone know what this might be about? I've only taken the exam one time.

Nope, mine has stayed the same.

strange how yours changed, mine is still the same. i'm wondering what they've been up to between our interview (1st and 2nd of Feb) and when they start reviewing our files (~14th). I wonder if they have actually been doing it since interviews ended and let us know as soon as they can or they have other things to be busy with (like setting up for another batch of interviews) and waiting to start reviewing our files until the 14th....ahh the speculations. in the mean time, i just had a wonderful physics test. just knock me out 'till i have some news (either way) in me email 😴

Well, since it was right before interviews, it was probably nothing, perhaps a small clerical error somewhere.

As for what they have been doing... The deadline was Feb 1, so they probably received a ton of applications in the week before that. That will take them a while to sort through. Some involved in the admissions process also have their other jobs to perform, such as teaching and research.

I don't mind the wait, but I really hope that they get a chance to evaluate me before the next round.

anyone else on here as impatient as me? mike36, any inside info 😉 on what the admin people are up to?

I haven't heard anything. If it goes like last year, then they probably will not get to the second day interviews (those that interviewed on Sat) until after round two.

It did seem they wanted to expedite the process, from what Dr. Wilcox told us the day of the interview, but if it's the case (I interviewed Saturday) then I'll just have to wait it out. Dr. Wilcox did say we can e-mail him any time to get an update, just not to over do it. I'll wait as long as I can...

I interviewed the first day of the second round last year but didn't get looked at until May. It was frustrating, but I understand they want to give sufficient time to review each applicant carefully. They started sending updates via email, in March I think, or maybe April.

Ok, now I'm starting to feel it... I can easily wait until the 20th, but I think that I'm going go crazy if I have to wait until after the second round.

Now I'm starting to freak out again... I just remembered that I need to work on my contingency plan in case I don't get accepted. I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

If Dr. Wilcox hadn't said it himself that we can e-mail him if needed to find out about our status, I wouldn't bother. But if the 20th rolls around and still no news, I think I'll have to take him up on his offer.

My contigency plan is the other school I applied to, for which the tuition is 2.5 times as much, but it's my backup school.

anyone else on here as impatient as me?

yes, Yes, YES!!! I'm ready to rip my hair out, I'm so impatient! Thanks to my stupid instant-gratification-cyber-internet-click-and-change-preferences generational upbringing, I can't even wait 20 damn days for a possible "deferral" without risking a major nervous breakdown.

I remember being significantly less stressed my first time in college, when the internet wasn't really an up-and-running option for UT (though it was in just about every American household), and we all registered by phone and did everything by snail mail. Ahhh, those were the good old days, because nothing mattered enough that it needed to be online yet.

Or maybe it was less stressful, because I was completely clueless. Could be either one, I guess.

Anyhooo, I'll just keep wittling away my time working on O'Chem 2, my current vortex of self-loathing, and try my hardest not to set anything unnecessary on fire.

Cheers! 😀😀😀

If reapplicants get interview during Apirl when UT wants to interview again..Does that mean that reapplicants can be accepted into UT pharm school without an interview? I am confused. 🙁 Do reapplicants have lower chance of acceptance?

Actually, from what I've heard, reapplicants are the "first" group that are looked at when the whole lot of applications comes in at the last minute. This year, because interviews started early, I'd assume most reapplicants who got their applications in near the deadline will be considered in the second round, unless they got their stuff in extra early. Technically yes, reapplicants can be accepted into the school without an interview, though I think this year Wilcox plans to reinterview all qualifying reapplicants to see what they've done to make themselves more competitive throughout the past year.

They probably won't get to us Saturday interviewees until at least the next meeting... We need an insider to let us know when the second meeting is going to happen so that we can send the admissions committee a basket of muffins.

How do we know they won't get to us? That's positive negativity my friend. And also I have been thinking a lot (which I can't stop), what if they review people not based on the order they interviewed, but rather when their application was compelete. I was complete on 12-18-07, which obviously gives me no clue where I'd stand in the pile. I just hope the sense of urgency Dr. Wilcox displayed on the day of our interview about reviewing our packets will translate into faster answers.

Well, there is the question of order, but if they did go by day interviewed, it didn't sound like they'd get to everyone on the first meeting.

Hopefully we will be reviewed by the 20th and not deferred because they didn't get a chance to look at us.

I hope you're right about reapplicants possibly getting considered for the second round interviews. I don't think i can sit here and wait until April. 🙂

I wonder if those reviewed today will hear something today or if they are going to wait a while.

Hoping anyone hears anything will post it on here, but it seems very few people are on SDN with respect to how many interview. I have my gmail on full alert.

I don't think they intend to send anything out until the 20th at the earliest. That said, if anyone hears anything before that, I hope they post it in this thread!

Just curious, Happy Hounds, what makes you say they don't intend to send any notifications to anyone before the 20th. Did you hear some insider info or just a hunch? Plus remember, we don't know for sure they just started reviewing people today or started right after the last person finished with their interview on the 2nd. In anycase, anyone hears please do post. Also if you do e-mail Dr. Wilcox about your status and he gives you a general update please post that as well. If i don't hear anything by the 20th, I will e-mail him and post if I find out anythign useful.

At the Friday tour session when Dr. Wilcox spoke to us, I thought I heard him say something like this (paraphrasing)--

"The admissions committee is getting together on the 14th and will start going over applications, one applicant at a time, and should have a first set of responses 1-2 weeks later...)

Maybe I misheard, but that's what I remember...

Well it's almost one day down. 1-2 weeks, thats 7-14 days. so if nothing in my inbox by the 20th, 6 days after, which is my personal cutoff for patience, I will e-mail him for update.

So, I guess nobody has heard anything yet...

So many people interviewed, and only a few posting on here... I wonder if some of those people have heard anything yet.

I'm gonna ride out the weekend studying for my anatomy practical for next Friday since I can't drop the class until I hear good news from UT.

I would hope that if they reviewed people already they would notify them as soon as they were done, as I assume it doesn't take much to send out a standardized Congratulations e-mail ( or We regret to inform you... 😱).

Anyone, anyone?
