University of Texas at Austin

According to the admissions statistics for my class, the majority finished pre-reqs at other institutions.

All completed at UT Austin: 31
Some completed at UT Austin: 21
All completed at other institutions: 72

Only 125 total are accepted into each class. So the 52 that completed all or some at UT includes the UTEP students.

So those UTEP students do some of their prerequisites while in Austin? Even if they did, that's 52 of 125, or 41.6% between just two schools.

Well...not that I know of. But I know that each new class has only about 125 students, give or take a few. Since the numbers in that table add up to about 125, then I guess the UTEP students are included in it even though it says UT Austin.

And I have personally heard Dr. Wilcox say that about 75 students came from other colleges. Maybe I'm wrong though. Maybe the UTEP students are part of the other colleges category.

Sorry. I was trying to make y'all feel better about not being UT Austin students, but I guess I don't really know what I'm talking about.😕

I'll feel better when I get an acceptance letter... hey that rhymes!

i had my interview today and i hope it went well but i reallly have no idea if it was good/bad...

I personally feel that I'd get in if I attended UT; therefore, I feel that you have a good chance.

I hope you're right. I'm praying for me and you both. 🙂
And for everyone else here. 😀

Woohoo, one extra place in the class!!!

Hey I emailed Ann Spencer about the demographics of the current application pool. She couldn't release any info about this year, but she said that in the past years the vast majority of people who even have applied (and been considered, not necessarily interviewed) have done some of or all of their coursework at UT (including reapplicants, which make up a decent chunk.) So it makes sense that a higher proportion of UT students would get in if a higher proportion are applying assuming a fair mix of all types of applicants. Realize then that more people from UT also get declined than anywhere else. The street goes both ways.

I know a few people who have done all of their work at UT who didn't get in last year, yet someone who did all his work at ACC did get in. And it wasn't all about GPA either (I believe his was about the same), but moreso experience, extracurriculars (this guy had started his own organization for non-UT students who wanted to get into UT Pharmacy,) and personality and drive. You may also have noticed that of those who were accepted last year who had previous degrees, almost an equal amount of acceptances were from people who completed their first degree at A&M (boo-hiss!!!) I think their application review process takes a lot more things into account and doesn't focus heavily on the school the applicant comes from (definitely not like a private school does!)

The big picture matters more than anything else. It's not really constructive to focus so heavily on the school where prerequisites are done, especially after the interview. It's also normal to be going crazy waiting like this, but it's better to try to refocus your energies as much as you can (on school, extracurriculars, having some sort of fun) to avoid getting even more stressed and upset. Remember, nothing is set in stone yet.

One precious spot has been relinquished.

It's sad that some of us are waiting so long, desperate to get into UT, and it wasn't this guy's top choice.

Hi,

Honestly it was a tough choice, I thought that UT was a great school in a great location and was my number two after UCSF. In terms of career direction and my goals in terms of clinical research, UCSF was a better fit for me, but both are really top notch programs.

I know that my spot will go to someone that really wants it, and I hope all of you that are waiting hear some great news soon! I know that I was particularly impressed with both the students and faculty that I met during my interview at UT.

Knowing that, the statistics make sense. I guess that many applicants just want to get in anywhere, so they don't care to apply to UT because of the extra transfer application.

Hopefully they look at the extra application essays and use them as part of the decision and not just make us do it as a complicated way of entering us into the UT system. I kind of want to email and ask, but I don't want to bug anyone... Would any accepted students be willing to ask? They can't take away your acceptance for bothering them

is everyone taking a hiatus on here? I leave for two days, come back to check and everyone seems to be taking a break. 🙂 Oh well...i guess that's good. All this waiting and checking e-mail and sdn is pretty stressful. 🙂

I sort of walked away... I've given up hope for UT, so I shifted my focus to Tech, but I'm losing hope for that school as well. My only hope is probably A&M. It's unaccredited and nobody wants to live in Kingsville, so I have a shot.

I'm almost there with you. What was it someone posted..."March = doom?" 🙄 Hopefully you'll hear something soon...one way or the other.

You didn't apply to UH?

You didn't apply to UH?

I did, but I withdrew because so many people (both online and in real life) put it in my mind that I had an excellent chance at Tech and UT. Both of those are much closer to home.

I now regret it because I could have used another chance. That and I now know that UH has the highest NAPLEX pass rate in the state, which really says something good about the school.

so if the admission committee is meeting on the 20th, when's the earliest we'll hear back from them?

The last meeting they had was also on a Thursday. I believe those who got in heard on the following Tuesday. I got my deferral on Wednesday.

I thought they were all on spring break this week, adcoms included...

Oh, well hopefully you'll get a definitive answer this time. Good or bad, I guess it's better than not knowing.

The review meeting is next week, on the 20th (Thursday).

I sent in my application a few days before the deadline and haven't heard anything. Is it safe to say I'm not even gonna get a late interview? I've also got an stupid possibly ignorant question, what is a deferal? Is it like a waiting list? Hey knickerbocker how do you know all this stuff about the admissions process, where can I get the info at? All this sux makes me feel like a freakin loser!!🙁🙁

They still got one round of interviews in April... invites go out 1 week before the interview dates so don't lose hope yet! One of the P1s or P2s posted the interview dates a while back. Deferral just means they are still considering your application but they want to see how you compare to other applicants from the next round of interviews.

If you go back through some of the previous pages, current UT pharm students including myself have posted what we know to help y'all out.

Thanks alot Mike I really appreciate it!! Thank God all students related to pharmacy are here to help each other out, I heard most med students are in an all out constant competition, some out to get others to eliminate competition. I'm kinda proud to be somewhat apart of pharmacy for this reason. Thanks alot guys😀

For those who got accepted already, congratulations!! 🙂 Do you guys mind sharing your stats?

There is an average of about a 3.5 GPA and a 79 PCAT, but UT accepts people with much lower stats and rejects people with very high stats. There is so much involved that I wouldn't worry about it.

yeah I agree with you
I think they place a lot of emphasis on experience...which I don't have as much.

don't worry. on average 20% of the entering classes have no experience. its not a requirement

So does that mean you should get an acceptance email (hopefully) from UT on the 25th?

(Sorry about the lastness of my question... I've kind of taken a hiatus from the whole worrying about getting into UT.)

Yeah, should be the 25th if they do things the same way as they did in February. I think maybe a few people heard the next day, so maybe some will hear on the 26th.

Well I'm rooting for you. If you don't get in, I think I'll totally lose all hope 🙁

Thanks... But don't put too much belief into my success (or lack of) being any kind of indicator. You may be what they are looking for and I may not.

True... it really is hard to know what they are looking for. I'm still surprised I even got an interview.

man ten pages of posts for this one thread! gl to all of you, seems like everyone is being really active in the admissions process.

<-----should've studied over spring break, 'ceutics is gunna PWN us haha :scared:

I think that half of the posts are from me. After the 25th I will probably have an answer. Whatever they say, I won't be posting frantically anymore.

Have they sent out invites for the last round of interviews already?

Have they sent out invites for the last round of interviews already?

They send out invitations about one week before the interviews. I believe that the last set is on April 4th and 5th, so invitations will go out at the end of this month.

There are about 82 applications for the second round...and I know the adcom probably won't get to all of them on the 20th. Just wondering how they pick out which ones to look at first? last names...order in which students are interviewed...etc. 😕

We've been unable to figure that out.

Anyone know when the construction around the pharmacy building will be complete? I just remembered I saw a raccoon or hugh-arse possum in the contruction zone when I was walking back to my car and it scared the living crap out of me! I mean it was BIG!

LOL! no kidding!!
yeah I hope the construction will be over soon so that I may leave 5 minutes before class to go to Welch 😀

A professor told me it was supposed to last for four years, or maybe three.

Oh that sucks. Thanks for letting me know.

Lol. Remember, things are bigger in Texas!

A few years of construction from what I remember being told.

First round and second round interviewers...
Did you received your interview invite at a certain day of the week, the week before your interviews (like wednesday, or friday?)?

Just want to be prepared...it'll be easier to accept defeat next week when I don't receive an invite from UT around the same day that interview invites should come out...

I got mine on 2/27. The subject says "UT Pharmacy Interview Invitation" and it was from Ann Spencer. (I still have the email in my inbox.) I think it was a Thursday? ‏

Please post if you hear anything back from the adcom! Thanks!
