University of Toronto Pharmacy 2019

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was wondering, did anyone get in with:

1) A score < 30% on a component in PCAT?
2) Without a full course load?
3) One year of 5.0 full course load but with lots of total course withdrawals? (around 8)?

And is it possible to get in if I'm in one of the above situations? And should I retake pcat if I had a 78 composite but with (85-90s in quantitative, bio, and chem) but had a component with <30% in one of the subjects? (reading)

I would recommend you retake the PCAT

If we could get into that facebook group then I have a feeling that we could potentially find some people willing to split the cost and be room mates. It seems like if you want your own apartment in Toronto you'll be paying handsomely for it.
I agree, the FB group would help finding a roommate to split an apartment. I've been looking at bachelors and 1 bedrooms and it looks like a minimum of $1200/month (pretty crummy however, or a good distance from campus), which is why I'm seriously considering splitting a 2+ bedroom.

I did 4.5 courses in my second year (did undiegrad at UofT) but I did 5.5 courses in third year.

Hi! New to this forum. Do you mind me asking how long you studied for your pcat using Dr.Collins? I just ordered the package after reading many great things about it! Thanks!
I studied for it on and off between Sept and January-the real deal cramming took place over Christmas break, but I'd say you wouldn't need more than that. Many of the questions are of similar style to the actual PCAT!

I got in without a full course load in first year but a full one in second year. But I think that's cause my average was higher when I did have a full course load

I am still on the upper-half wait list. :( Really hope I can get an opportunity of a lifetime.... Anyone have any news related to wait list applicants? Do you guys think most people will pick Waterloo or U of T if accepted to both?

Is anyone who got accepted into both Waterloo and UofT considering picking UofT? I feel like I don't know anyone other than me who is

Btw congrats to everyone that got in! :)

Congrats! Do you know approximately how many people will pick Waterloo of U of T?

probably a handful at least. I remember reading people picking waterloo over U of T due to the co-op thing. I think the top half wait list probably have like 50/50 chance of getting in eventually.

A lot of people choose waterloo, so just wait it out until next week and you should see some waitlist movement. Not to mention a few pick UBC, Dal etc so upper half is a good shot. Do you know what number you are on the waitlist?

Thanks for the encouragement! They didn't tell us where we are on the wait list but they mentioned that there are 40 people on the wait list and I am in the upper half, meaning I am somewhere from 1-20.

Is TTC fare covered in the tuition? I know in Hamilton, if you're a Mac student and you flash your student card to a bus driver, then the ride is free.

I wish. Students in Toronto have to pay regular fare like everyone else.

Does anyone have tips on how to tackle the verbal section on the PCAT? It's the only section I am struggling with :(
Thank you

Thank you

For verbal ability, I just repeatedly looked at the word roots. I only had like 2 days to study so all I did was flip through the pages repeatedly until the test. Got 63rd percentile. If you have time then memorize the roots before hitting the word list

What source did you use to study verbal? I used Kaplan. I sat there and learned the words on the cue cards but the words on the actual exam was nothing like the list Kaplan provided

For Verbal, use Collins. Similar Questions appeared. Do all of the practice ones (and understand why the answer is right ) and you'll get 80+. they also have a nice vocab list for uncommon meanings for common words as well as additional vocab.

Dr Collins practice tests were a good representation of the actual PCAT's verbal. Studied that and scored 91st percentile in that section.

The weird thing is that UTM students get a Upass for Missisauga transit. Its weird that the downtown campuses don't do that for a TTC pass given they could definitely get it at a reduced price if they incorporate it in all student's tuition (as in the case for the Missisauga campus).

Most likely because Mississauga Transit is better funded/has fewer expenses, and more agreeable to negotiations with student groups/UTM. Have you seen the TTC? Good luck getting anything from them.

Wrong. You get student-discounted metropasses. Save like $10 a month :p

BTW just to confirm, the deadline to apply for OSAP is 40 days after the last day of classes or something like that correct? So I can apply in July and still be okay? Lots of administrative stuff to sort out t,t

A ttc metro pass is $112 per month for students and will get you on buses, street cars, and subways. Student fare is slightly cheaper than regular fare

I was on the lower half of waiting list last year and on my rejection email that I got on September it said only 5 people were admitted from the waiting list last year.

is there a list of clubs and whatnot for pharmacy students somewhere?

Don't think there's a list anywhere, but we've got a decent selection, including intramural sports teams, professional/academic clubs, musical clubs (ie. choir), and even a board games club. Even if you don't find any clubs you want to join, you can always start your own. You even get UPS points for it.

Does anyone have tips on the reading section on the pcat? its the only section I have difficulties with and I'm not sure if it's a reason why I didn't get in :(

Remember to base your answers off what the text says. There was at least one possible option in each question that "made sense" and could easily be correct, but was not implied in the text.

it's sort of similar to the VR section on MCAT. My general advice for you is to practice reading practice passages as much as you can and try to increase your vocab a bit. The answer to the questions are almost always directly in the text so always refer back (high light as you read too) instead of just answering. I honestly thought reading was the easiest section on the PCAT (essay aside)

Is anyone interested in meeting up for a 1T9 pub night this weekend or the following? It would be a perfect opportunity to meet some of our class and have a celebratory drink!

Thats a good point. Sometime after the 26th would work out best, once the waitlisted have gotten their notice and the undecided have made their decision.

I'd be down but I'm only gonna be moving in likely around early July

any other international students going to UofT this year? Hi

I did too :) I did 2 yrs of undergrad at U of T and applied for the first time this year!
^Same! I feel so blessed, since I was hesitant on applying this year. Is anyone here from the pharmaceutical chem specialist? I'm not sure if there are others who applied.

Haha same here. Did 2 years undergrad at uoft except with a pharm and tox specialist. We're gonna be the babies there

For the osap application it says "scholarships, bursaries etc you expect to receive". The scholarship info doesn't come out until july so should we just write "no" or apply after we get the scholarship info? what did everyone do?

You can always change it between now and when you get your funding. So just say no for now.

also someone want to make an unofficial fb group for the class of 1T9 since the official group is taking a long time to accept requests?

For those applying for OSAP, the program you have to choose is "Doctor of Pharmacy EPPD Year 1", instead of "bachelor of science in pharmacy"...it's still a bachelor's degree <-- got this from upper year students!

Just the information I was looking for. Thanks a bunch for sharing!

A bit late to the party but got in :)

GPA: 3.88
PCAT: 98
Interview: 2 good, 6 okay, 2 bad

Congrats to everyone who got admitted! I'll see you all in September :)
I'm already a UofT student and I live off-campus (about a 10min walk away) in a 2 bedroom + den in a condo (we use the den as a third bedroom). One of my roommates just moved out so my other roommate and I (we're both girls) are scrambling to find someone else to take over the lease from mid-August. We're renting out one of the bedrooms and I was wondering if there are any female students who just got admitted and are looking for a place to live...might be a long shot but I thought I'd post here.
