UNLV Interview 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was mailed out 7/31 if that helps- got an interview 9/15 for 10/29

Yeah, Thanks. That helps. I called to see if I was under review and how my progress was going for an interview and I was told to just wait for either a rejection letter or an interview invite. I guess they try to be as helpful as possible.

actually, there are only 25 spots avaiable for out of state students. UNLV gives at least 50 to instate. and UNLV receives over 2,000 out of state applications a cycle...so yeah...

I'm assuming you mean 25 spots for seats in the class and not interview spots?

im about to book circus circus for 2 nights at $27 a night 👍
wow...it's very cheap. Where did you find that good deal? Can you send me the link throuh PM? My interview is on Nov 5th.

that is certainly cheap but you're more likely going to have a terrible experience. it's run down, too crowded, and the air is very very thick in smoke. it's not what it used to be when i was a kid

also, i suggest finding a way to change into your formal clothing elsewhere that is not circus circus. i'd hate to smell like smoke all day at the UNLV interview.

this is indeed the truth. circus circus is stanky-dank. but you definitely get what you pay for. you will most definitely smell like cigarette smoke too.

Ummm... are there any casinos in Vegas that don't smell like smoke and aren't too crowded? Being from Reno, I can tell you that there aren't any there.

Being from Reno, I can tell you that there aren't any there.

You mean the Peppermill doesn't smell like flowers ? 😛

There are places, but they are newer and more expensive. Some hotels/casinos separate their casinos from the rest of the hotel (thus separating you from smoke). Places to consider:

Red Rock Hotel
Wynn
Encore
The Pllazo (part of the Venetian)

Places you'll be smelling like smoke:

Circus Circus
The Stratosphere
Anything dowtown Las Vegas (not the strip)

red rock is good. the hilton resort as well, but that might be more expensive.

So, on interview day we're supposed to report to Building A. The map is super fuzzy... is that the number 2 building on the map?

Hey everyone,
I have a quick question... How long was it before you received the UNLV app complete e-mail and your interview invite? Just curious...

I don't think that's such a good idea. Isn't UNLV located in a crappy neighborhood? Hotels on the strip shouldn't be that expensive either, during this time of the year.
If you're gonna be there on Oct 8th, let me know and I can give you a ride to the school and back to your hotel (PM me!). I'm gonna leave LA on the 7th (hopefully sometime in the morning), so I should be there around 2-3PM.

I also have an interview on the 8th. Staying at NYNY hotel on the strip!
Arriving at Vegas on the 7th. Super excited for Vegas.. oh yeah and the interview of course haha.

I got an email saying that my file was complete aug 18th, got my invitation sep 9th. However AADSAS still shows that UNLV didnt receive my DAT/app fee/etc.etc..

As of this mourning UNLV only had dates of Nov 19th Dec 3rd and Dec 10th open so it looks like in the next week they will be filling post dec 1st spots.

interview on nov. 12th! anyone interested in splitting a hotel room?

I'm also interviewing at UNLV on Oct 8th and I live in Vegas. I was told by one of the dental students there that the student interview is worth the same amount of points as the faculty interview so keep that in mind!

That is true. We were told that today by Dr. Ancajas (Dean of Admissions) today.

The interviews are really informal though, so no need to stress too much.

Anyone else going down to Vegas for an interview Nov 12 that i could carpool with from Utah? Let me know via email: [email protected]
In fact, if you provide a ride for me, I may be able to provide you with a free place to stay there the night before.

Haha, I just booked a room at the Gold Spike hotel for October 28th for a grand total of $12.30. For that price, I don't even care how scary it is.

Hey guys:
You don't really need to aim for the crappiest hotels in Vegas to get a good deal.
I just booked two nights at the "Stratosphere Hotel" for a total of 60$ (30.00$/night). This is a decent hotel, and the only reason it's rather cheap is because it's somewhat far away from the strip (Which makes it closer to UNLV).
I don't think anyone can beat that price.

For those of you who are going to interview on the 8th, PM me if you'd like to exchange phone# and meet up on the 7th.
Also, since I'm driving down there I can provide you guys with a ride to the school and hopefully back (depending on when you finish your interview).
Lemme know!

aadsas mailed 7/31
suppl mailed 9/1
invite 10/2
and my aadsas also says that they are still missing my DAT scores so i don't rely on aadsas.

i read somewhere there are only post-dec interview dates left now, that true?

and just so I don't slaughter the Dean's name, Dr. Ancajas is pronounced On-cah-hahs yes?

She's not the dean (She's the admissions director), but Yes! I believe that's how you pronounce her name.

Anyone else staying at Stratosphere on 7th and 8th for the interview on 8th? 🙂

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's "on-cah-has". That's the way she pronounced it at least.

so glad i asked. thanks everyone! 🙂

so i remember reading that the interview is with two interviewers? but then someone told me today it's just one. anyone already have their interview yet that can share their experiences? who does the interviewing and how do they manage to interview so many candidates within such a short time frame?

it should be 2 interviews: 1 with a committee, 1 with a student

i haven't interviewed there yet, i just do biomed research with a professor there who happens to be on the adcom and that's just what he told me.

just a recommendation - i would bring some lysol spray or something cause the stratosphere smells a little like cigarettes in many parts. maybe consider changing at another location or something. just so you know 🙂

Does anyone know about how many Nevada residents have received interviews yet? There is such a small number on predents.

would you happen to know how many people are on the committee?

I simply hate clowns!
So, I booked a room at Stratosphere for 35$/night (or so).
But like I said, you don't have to look for the crappiest hotels. Like you did, anyone can find a decently priced hotel on the strip, if they look for it.

It's Vegas! Everywhere smells like cigarettes!!!

It's probably much more than what you see on predents, because UNLV is a state school that doesn't take that many out of state applicants. So, they'll take majority of their students from NV residents.

Both interviews are just one-on-one. One faculty, one student. At least that's how it was 2 weeks ago when I had my interview.

actually it may not be. if any of you have taken the UNLV Dental Simulation Course, you may remember Dr. Ancajas reviewing the statistics from the previous year. UNLV reserves 50-56 spots for in-staters, and out-of-state compete for the rest (and it may be up to 2,000 people vying for 25ish spots). However, last year, only 146 in-state applied. that's nothing compared to the larger applicant pools. that means you have a 1 in 3 shot almost to get in just by virtue of being a Nevada resident. i've heard from current applicants that the number is even less this year.

Sweet, score 1 for us NV residents...

i think in this case they should take more out of staters 🙂
