Hi, so one of my top choices so far is UNLV. However, when I looked on their website, they "very highly recommended" that all prereqs be completed prior to submitting your application. I was just wondering if there was anyone here who was accepted but did not complete ALL of their prereqs before they applied? I really want to attend UNLV but I am a little worried about taking on another science course while studying for the DAT next semester...

Do you think not finishing one class (biochemistry) would significantly lower my chances of gaining acceptance? Also, do you think it would be wise to take these classes while studying for the DAT? How manageable would it be? I also plan to do some kind of research too... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I didn't have a couple of my pre-reqs completed when I applied and I got accepted there. So it's not that big of a deal, as long as it's not most of your pre-reqs that are yet to be completed. I purposely waited until after applications to take biochem and the ochem lab, which are infamously hard at my school.

Hey thanks for the reply TX. I was just wondering though, were any of your stats much higher than the average accepted student? Thanks.

You can always take Biochem in the summer (after you take your DAT). This is what I did and it worked out well. I had one month between Spring and Summer Session II that allowed me to focus on DAT preparations, tested June 1, then started Biochem. UNLV offers Biochem every summer. If UNLV is your top choice, be sure to attend their Sim Clinic at the end of May, beginning of June. I had not attended and they asked me why I didn't at my interview this year. Avoid that! Best of luck to you!

My stats were slightly higher than average, but nothing insane. You can check out my predents profile for all the info. And I agree with what VegasRDH said above. UNLV with actually tell you that one of the best ways to improve your chances of getting in there (besides the obvious GPA and DAT scores) is to attend their summer Dental Simulation Course. It's pretty fun and not too expensive.
