FYI,
UNLV ranks all their applicants according to the following formula to get an objective score

Part 1 stats:

(sGpa + cGpa)/8 x (RC DAT)/30 x (BIO ORG QR DAT)/90 x 75= __________

Part 2 is based on interviews:

(interview #1 score 1-5)+(int #2 1-5)/10 x 25=___________

So as you can see the perfect applicant would score 100.
How do you feel about this approach? Obviously if you get invited for an interview, your part 1 score is great. Is it fair?

I think this info is very helpful. It is not everyday that a school gives you an idea of exactly what goes on.

I wonder why the QR and not gchem or PAT. It would help me more if they just took AA/30. QR was my lowest by a few points.

I do think this is a fair way to weed out apps.

Yeah it is cool to know kind of where you are at. I wish I knew how my interviews went. Then I could finish the math and decide if I accept me to UNLV or not.

How do u know this formula...did the school tell u?

Yep, it is part of their presentation slideshow. Ask NE1 who has been if they have seen it, they also may have dazed off since the stats part was an hour long.

Does this mean they don't look at the PAT?

They hinted that they look at LOR's EC's as tie breakers, no mention of PAT anywhere. Crazy huh.

They also said that if you scored about 50 or over, you're in. Highest they had was around a 76 or 79 and lowest was 36. They do look at all the other stuff too though, i.e. ECs, extenuating circs, PS, etc. If you have an interview there, ask them again. I think it sucks to rely solely on that one number.

Anyone know how many applicants are interviewed?

I'm interviewing there on Nov 30, and since it was a pre Dec-1st i felt i had a pretty good shot.. at least %40-%50 chance of getting in..

but if they interview 21 applicants each interview session then they probably interview many more than i thought.. i estimated a total of 300 or so..(with 75 seats and lets say they accept a bit more than that.. 100 or so)

What do you guys think?

they accept 130 out of the 300. keep in mind 40 out of the 75 are reserved for nevada residents.

Suprised to see they don't use the BCP gpa.

so 300 total interviewed(instate+out of state), out of 130 accepted 70 wil be in-state 60 will be out-of-state

ahh.. so i still have a shot 😀

i guess they have fewer interview dates.. since they interview 300 at the rate of 20 each date... dont most other schools interview 10 or less at a time?

For those who got interview invite..
what score did u get on part 1?

I got 32, and I didnt get invited. hum

UNLV interviews once a week starting Oct 5. As for 70 instate and 60 outies, who knows? You need to know the ratio in which the accepted Nevada residents accept admittance. I assumed that most Nevada residents would stay. So might be less than 70. Who knows?

Well they said it's not purely the number. They also look at ECs, extenuating circs, PS, etc.

I am high 30's, damn QR is keeping me from the 40's .

When I was there they said it was like 52 nevada kids, and 25 non nevada + 1 person was a deferral from the previous year. So I think it was 77 total enrollees.

Their stats show was long and had many different sets of the same stats. It was a bit confusing as far as how many get in and stuff.

It was great to hear that if you are around 50 with their objective score you have a dang good shot at getting in.

Are you sure???? How positive are you? How hard is it to get 3's on the interviews?

Is it (Bio + Org + Qr Dat)...?

I would like the answer to this question, as well. I am insanely curious to know what my score is. I want to define myself by this number so badly.

i got a 37.28 for the first part and no interview invite at all. i wonder what is an "interview" score? it would be nice to know from those that got an interview what their score was...?

People, the NUMBER... the FINAL NUMBER after the INTERVIEW will help the ADCOMS determine who gets in and who gets rejected. I didn't say it's the SOLE FACTOR in determining admittance. The number HELPS. It doesn't have anything to do with GIVING OUT AN INTERVIEW. They look at the applicant as a WHOLE when giving out interviews. So if you have a 75 and didn't get an interview, it's not because of your score (b/c obviously you'll have a 4.0 and 30s on RC, OC, QR, BIO), it's because of some other factor, i.e. bad recs, bad ps, little or no ECs, etc. etc.

it is (Bio+QR+orgo)/90

Here is an example students worksheet:

(3.8+3.75)/8 x 25/30 x (23+20+26)/90 x 75 =45.41

You would want to be in this persons shoes, as long as he can get a decent interview score he's in!

Scoring around 50 is the goal.
(this assumes you have everything else, EC LOR'S etc)

I know in my interview, my personal statement was a huge part of the questions they asked. Know your essay, because that was one whole interview!

The interview score is a rating 1-5 from each of your interviewers. You have 2 interviews, So you could get a 4+5 or a 1+1 or any other combination then divide it by ten and multiply that by 25 and you have an interivew score.

I didn't want to piss anyone off by posting this formula, I just thought it was extremely helpful. Use it if you want.

thanks alot.

I got a 35 in the part one when I figured mine out. I'm going in a couple weeks for my interview. My ECs are pretty substantial though.

when's the second round of interviews? (november?)

Obviously if you get invited for an interview, your part 1 score is great. Is it fair?
...i have an interview for Nov 30th..

I also have interview at 3 other schools, including Columbia. My dat is very good (21) but unfortunately not ridiculously high like some of the scores we see on SDN ...

still my score for part 1 is low (if i calculated correctly)..

I applied to a lot of schools because i knew that any school using a strict formula for selection would cut me in the first round..

I'm wondering if this means that its more than just numbers for UNLV?? or maybe my above average DAT got me the interview, once they look at the GPA ill be out the door? .. who knows.. so far of the schools i have interviews for UNLV is up on my list.. and now i hear that i would get instate tuition after the first year? Awesome!.

okay, if you have an interivew at UNLV scheduled then your part one is not low. You are in great shape compared to the other 2500 people who applied.

According to that formula, I have a 47 and I just recieved my interview a week or so ago and I am post dec 1, but its one of my last choices anyways-so I am not too pissed

Got my invite 😎

Got my invite 😎

I got an invite as well. By the way, did you find any files attached to the invitation email? It says "Please review the enclosed interview information" in the body, yet I can't find any attachment......

You should have 2 emails, one with all the printable info.

Congrats!

Really? I only received 1 email without attachments. Maybe I should mention about it when I schedule my interview tomorrow. Can you (or anyone else who got a UNLV invitation email) tell me what the information is about? Thanks in advance

what's the closest airport and where did you stay for your interview in UNLV?

So, now that dec one has passed, how did everyone do with this formula? I was high 30's and I guess the interview went well enough.

Did anybody not get in after feeling good about their calculation from the formula?

I think this will be a good tool for future UNLV applicants, so please share.
