Anyone hear from UNR yet? The decisions from the first round of applicants went out last Friday and should have arrived yesterday or today. I was wondering if anyone got anything? If you weren't home they leave a notice that you missed a letter.

I posted this on another thread, but I'm an OOS applicant and was told by the admissions office that OOS applicants will not hear from them until after Feb. 15th. So the waiting continues.

I would think that with the calibur of applicants on SDN, someone would have got in first round to UNSOM, but it seems that no one did. Guess the February acceptances are going to fill the entire class. Good luck.

i got a certified mail letter/package from unsom this wednesday. i havent had a chance to get it yet. i have to go pick it up at some post office. im sure it is some decision letter, whether good or bad.

I interviewed mid-december and haven't received any word yet. I'll check my mail today. Hey Steiner did you get in or what? I'm an in-state appicant but have a lower MCAT so I don't know what my chances are.

I didn't hear anything yet. And they wont tell you when your application has been reviewed so i don't know if they already looked at it or what. If they did then I think I got waitlisted.

they did in fact send out acceptances. approx 30 students were accepted in this round. i know b/c they sent us an email on monday that was not bcc-ed.

Don't panic if you haven't heard from them, I applied last year and didn't hear till March. Last year they accepted more people in March than at any other time. Their admissions office is kind of dumb.

Does anyone know if UNSOM is increasing their class size this year? I've heard rumors but don't if they are actually legit. I think they could definitely increase their class size by 10.

I talked to a lady in the admissions office and she told me that they are increasing the class size by 5 this year. She said that they could take 5 in state students, 5 OOS students, or a mixture. Her exact quote was that they are not reserving the additional spots for Nevada students and that they will go to the most qualified applicants.

What is up with UNSOM and their odd process of getting back to you? I'm confused as to why they won't give you a status update on your application as far as when the committee will be reviewing your file. Shouldn't the AdCom be reviewing applications in the order they interviewed applicants? Still no word for me. Anyone know how many have been accepted so far?

They said 52 or 57 acceptances this year and about a third of those will be the first round, so 17-20, maybe more because of people not taking the spot they're offered. Another round of acceptances Feb 15th and then March 15th. Sometimes they meet in April also. I agree with wondering why they won't tell you when you got reviewed, it makes no sense to me. The only reason I can think of is that they say the applicants are organized at random into three groups, but maybe they're not. That's why they won't tell us when we got reviewed. Because we'd put it together that all the high scoring applicants went first. Either that or they just like power.

yeah, they'll meet around the 15th of feb and then send out decisions that should get there by the end of this week, next monday at the latest.

UNSOM sends second round notifications tomorrow. Should get there by Monday at the latest.

I was on the phone with Linda today and she told me the committee meets the beginning of every month and decisions are mailed out the 15th. So tomorrow it is. I don't think I'll hear back this month though because their was some confusion with my transcript and AMCAS. Oh well, what's another month right?

I don't think they will disclose anything over the phone. Linda is really friendly and easy to talk to so maybe give it a try?

They won't tell you anything over the phone, not even that your app has been reviewed or not. Everything they tell you over the phone you could find on their website.

You're both correct. I called today, just for the hell of it, and they wouldn't tell me anything. She wouldn't even tell me if I had a letter coming or not Guess I'll just have to wait. Doesn't the letter come via certified mail? If so, I'm bummed because I'm out of town for a week and I won't be able to sign for it. 👎

Yeah, everything comes certified. Including rejections (I know from experience). You could try leaving a note on your door to leave it with a neighbor or in your mailbox. That might work.

To those who haven't heard---Don't despair. Without being too conceited, I really was a pretty good applicant by Nevada standards, which is to say I was an NV resident and interviewed at 3 top 20 schools. I did get in but didn't hear until March. Decided not to go b/c I thought I was better off staying in Texas due to my own personal situation.

From what I understand, they separate the applicants into 3 random groups. It has nothing to do with your credentials, or when you interviewed (I interviewed in October, at the very beginning of their interview dates). It's totally random.

i am waitlisted too so im hoping that more people will decide not to go! where did linda tell you that you were on the waitlist? im "in the middle" but i dont know if thats in the middle of 3 or in the middle of 30! hopefully i will find out soon! as for my stats they are 31 MCAT (august, 12v 10bs, 9ps) gpa 3.56, sci gpa 3.24

Someone probably got your spot already, but I kind of hope I'm wrong.


Did anyone on the waitlist get told by financial aid that they couldn't process your file? I turned mine in in Feb. and was told that because I wasn't accepted they couldn't complete my file. The Medical school tells you to go through with financial aid as if your were accepted though. Did I just get misinformed or is there a mix-up within the school.

I was accepted on May 12th off the out of state waiting list. I withdrew the next day so hopefully someone cool gets my spot.
