Unsure how adcoms will view classes taken at a CC....

Hi,

I'm new to SDN, and I have a small issue so I was hoping I could get some help here. I'm sophomore right now at a 4 year University. I've taken Ochem 1 (got an A-) and am taking Ochem 2 right now (I'll probably get a B). My issue is Physics; for some reason, I am terrible at it. I was enrolled in Physics 1 last semester, but I took a W because I was going to end up with a C. I'm considering taking Physics 1 and 2 at a CC, but I don't know how that's looked up. Would it raise any red flags that a sophomore is taking pre-reqs at a CC? I would really appreciate any feedback guys.

I don't think it should be any problem at all - students take classes at community colleges all the time (i.e. in the summer at home rather in their college town.) I would be more worried with doing well in both of the physics courses in the community college, especially because you took a W in the previous semester. Essentially, it's going to be looked as nearly retaking a course, so adcoms would expect to see that you did better the second time around.

Overall: In this case, getting A's at a community college is much better than getting C's at your university.

I have asked many DO schools and they don't care if classes are taken at CC's.

MD schools look down up taking CC classes unless you started at a CC after high school.

Can't imagine it would be a big deal. I retook a number of classes at CC, and I got in. Just do well on your MCAT and it will be overlooked

I don't think it will matter as long as you score well on the mcat tbh. But you're also not really fooling anyone either. I recommend finding a good physics tutor and having them force it into your head until you get it. You'll thank me when you don't screw up PS.

I think it would look a bit better if the course was taken at a four year university, but it's really not that big of a deal (as the above posters have stated). Not to worry OP, you should be fine.
