UNT CoP Inaugural Class Hopefulls!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied here but was told that they would not accept my general bio courses b/c they were called something different at the university I attended. I still don't understand why they would not, I even have a degree in biology lol. I was told that I would be asked to interview if I could somehow take both courses by the end of the semester which had already started (wtf?). Anyways I withdrew my application. Good luck to all moving forward!

That's too bad you withdrew your app. You could have taken the CLEP for your general biology course credits and since you already have a BS in Bio it prob would have been a breeze. I also have a BS in Bio but I ran into some issues with the time requirement since my bio generals are from 2001 so I just took the CLEP and it was no problem-I didn't have to retake the actual course.

There's a reason why they are not using PharmCAS this year. ACPE did not grant them an on-site visit for this year so they are trying to rush in the early half of next year to get everything approved. Since they are not yet accredited and approved, they cannot accept any applications.

I can't believe people actually buy this. DFW, Texas in general actually, does not need another pharmacy school. Texas Tech already has a program in DFW that lets their students spend their last 2 years here. Additionally, schools like UT allow their students to do their last year rotations here if they chose to.

The only reason I see UNT to be popular is that people don't want to move to pursue their dreams or are bottom of the barrel students and believe their only chance is by applying to new schools.

Mean green is actually not that mean at all. I don't see why they are wasting so much money to build that new stadium when their football team cannot even make it to a bowl game.

Bravo!!!! 👍

REALLY? I looked into cleping out but was told there was not an equivalent CLEP test for general bio I & II. I was told there was only a clep for like bio 101. Can you give some info on where you took the clep and through which school?

I took the CLEP at Collin County CC. It give me credit for general bio 1and 2 and is on my transcripts also. If you google CLEP there is an official site as well

Yeah I'm pretty sure we met! We were talking about the stuff we were reading on this forum and you told me you went to A&M! (I figured from the name aggies and the A&M pic on the side that it was you) haha And yep they are meeting tomorrow to discuss the first round!

haha great deduction! if no one's heard from them this week, then we may have a while to go before we hear anything back since we were the second round of interviewees. :uhno:

Just got my acceptance email! But I will be declining. Good luck y'all 🙂

Got my accepted letter through e-mail!!!! I interviewed on feb.13th

I interviewed on the first day, and got my acceptance e mail today...and I will be accepting 🙂

I also got my acceptance email yesterday but will be declining. I hope this opens up a spot for someone else! good luck

Just to let everyone know, I had my interview here this past Monday (2/18) and loved it! I really like the school, the area, and all of the faculty I encountered were so friendly and helpful. They answered all of my questions and really made the interview day enjoyable. Yes, there was not much to see on the tour, but can you blame them? There is a lot of construction going on. They showed us the admissions office, the building and the rooms where P1's and P2's will have their classes, and the library. That is where students will be spending the majority of their time so that is really all we needed to see! No sense in walking around the entire campus on a hot day in heels if we will never really be spending our time in those parts of the campus, such as where the medical students and PA students have their classes. If you end up getting accepted to the school, I'm sure you could explore those parts of the campus anytime you wanted. It just wasn't necessary to do on the interview day. The tour was short, sweet, and to the point, which most people should be happy about because an interview day can be tiring. The tour was the very last thing, so you could tell that everyone was ready to head home anyway. They are currently building a pharmacy skills lab that will be ready in May, so we were not able to see that yet. Overall, I really enjoyed the interview day and I had a great experience visiting the school. Everyone there treated me kindly and with respect. For people with interviews coming up: just arrive at your interview with an open mind and don't believe everything you read on these forums. Form your own opinions when you get there and see what vibe you get from the school yourself. Everyone's experience will be different! They ask that you fill out a survey at the end of the day about your interview experience, so if you were not happy about something, you have the opportunity to tell them about it on the form. Good luck to everyone with interviews coming up and just enjoy the day! If you have a good attitude about it, it really is a fun day! 🙂
Thanks for posting your information! I have an interview there tomorrow and was wondering what is their process? Is it a one on one interview or a group panel interview? Is there a group activity? I"m just trying to get a feel for what I should expect. Also, what kind of questions did you have? 🙂 If anyone else wants to share their experience, I would be so grateful! Thank you in advance 😀

anyone know what the deposit is? i got waitlisted at tech :annoyed: so just to have one school in texas i think ill deposit the cash. but i really want to do my pharm.d./law duel degree.

I had my interview last Wednesday. Basically, I arrived and they gave us our packets, we went to a room and got a presentation and they gave us 30 minutes to write a written portion (nothing really about pharmacy). After that, each person had 2 interviews and a file discussion; the order varied. After that, they gave us a tour and we left. Took about 4 hours total. Good luck!

Were the interviews one-on-one AND group? And was the file discussion like..about grades and stuff? Thanks.

They told me at my interview that the deposit was going to be about $200-250. They weren't sure yet though.

Both interviews were just one on one. The file review was just to make sure that they had the correct information for you on file like your name, mailing address, phone number, email address, etc. and they tell you if you have all of your prereqs completed or not. There was no discussion about grades or anything.

I got offered an interview for next week. I'm excited and can't wait to see what the school has to offer. For those of you on the fence about accepting a seat from UNT, go ahead and decline. I WANT to go to this school and be part of the inaugural class. I am fully aware of the risks, but UNT is no stranger to healthcare programs. I'm sure by the time August rolls around they will have a much clearer direction for their program and provide more concrete answers to everybody's questions. As much as I would love to move out of the Dallas area for pharm school, I can't make that kind of financial decision. Especially with an oversaturation of pharmacists in the healthcare field, I know my salary won't be as high as it is today by the time I graduate to pay off college loans. However, no worries. I'm becoming a pharmacist because I WANT to. I honestly don't want to be anything else!🙂

I couldn't agree with you more.

Did anyone who interviewed on 2/12 get an email yet?? I'm waiting....still anxiously waiting.....

I haven't seen one yet. I know one of the deans made the TCOM facebook page so I wonder if the pharmacy school is going to make their own or if we should make it.

I interviewed on the 27th. Seems like everyone participating here that interviewed has been accepted.... Congrats to all of you, and let's keep that trend going!!

I'm right there with you people that really want to be at UNT. I was a bit concerned by what others had posted earlier on. Yeah, the school is under construction, but most of the tour did not include that area. I thought it was a nice campus and felt that everyone's questions were answered appropriately. I'll be so excited to be there, hopefully!

I also got accepted!!
I interviewed on the 18th.
and i am going here for suuuuuuuure 😀😀😀😀
UNT is gonna be awesome. The school is so high tech.
I really have no doubt about the accreditation process, theres no way its not getting accredited. It's in the middle of a Health Science Center with so many other proffesions.
i really think this school is going to be one of the top pharmacy schools in Texas in a few years.
And being part of the very first class is another thing thats super exciting.
I don't want to just set a bar, but seriously place the bar where its untouchable.
Thats my goal lol
See yall There
And fw has so many good places to eat!!!
Mehds

I interview in a few days and UNT says they still have not received the recommendation letter from my pharmacist. My pharmacist assured me that he sent it at least twice...should I bring a sealed copy to the interview or ask him to mail it again? I couldn't get answer through email or phone at UNT...

This actually happened to me too!! I was really worried. Ya make sure to put it College of Phatmacy on the top. But ya I had mine resend it and they finally got it. But ATleast they asked you for an interview without a letter. I was under they weren't looking at applications until they were complete so I'm sure you'll be ok. But ya I would probably do both.

Congrats! So, did it take a full 3 weeks for you to hear back? I agree with everything you said about in regards to UNT being the best in a matter of time.

I interviewed on 2/18 and heard back on Friday 3/8 in the afternoon. I was practically email stalking myself-lol. I am so incredibly excited!! I assume that they review the Monday and Wednesday interviews and send emails out on Fridays so three weeks is good approximation. If you have questions tho email them-I have never had an email go unreturned, in fact last time I emailed Toni Kilpatrick she responded within the hour🙂.
Congrats to those already in and good luck to those still waiting. UNT CoP Class of 17'!!!

Just curious, did you have a morning or afternoon interview? If it was afternoon, we probably met, since there were only 4 interviewees.

Ya I interviewed on the 18th, and then heard back the 8th in the afternoon. I was also hovering over my email lol so it was a perfect way to start Spring break! although ill just be working at the pharmacy all week lol

Ok heres some tips, for the essay, write the harder one lol but what I did was I related it to how UNT looked technologically advanced and how the culture of pharmacy is changing. That with newer technology, the role of the pharmacist will be changing. pretty much when Dr. Jacobson is talking take notes. and then I related the essay about what he said and tried to show similar goals about making health care better.

And ok on the interview. There are 2 of them. My first one went super well and we connected really good. the second guy, I would be answering the questions like trying to ask questions with lots of examples of how I have done these things in the pharmacy. But then he was like "how could you distill that into 1-2 sentences" lol so he froze me big time. I was like uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh lol so watch out for that! So i was worried about that interview.
And then I sent thank you notes 😛
Buy ya im excited!
Goooood Luck!

I interviewed on the 25th and received my acceptance today! Congrats to everyone who got accepted 🙂

I interviewed on the 27th and got my acceptance email today!!!

See you guys in the Fall!

I interviewed on the 25th and I got my acceptance email as well! I'll definitely be attending so I can't wait to meet everyone in the fall.

Did you send thank you notes to each individual interviewer or just the college?

I might have over done it buuuuut I sent 5 lol 😛
1 to each of the interviewers, 1 to Dr. Kilpatrick. 1 to Dr.Jacobson and 1 to the staff for the tour and they were all super nice. But ya i pretty much emphasized how impressed I was with the school and how I really wanted to go there and then thank you for the opportunity.
I think if you send ty to the interviewers and dr. kilpatrick youll be fine.
You gotta do what you gotta do lol
