I heard that there is an unwritten rule where Officers do not wear their ribbons or awards on their dress shirts, but ok on coats. However, it is ok for enlisted personnel to do so. Can anyone elaborate?

Not in the Army. The rules are the rules.

It is an unwritten rule...depending on where you are. As a whole...most officers do not wear their ribbons on their shirt. However, some people do. Yes, 670-1 says you can wear it, but it also says you can wear your PT patch on your shirt as well...and we all know people don't put that on their shirt.
