Hey guys, my status for UoP was said to be complete and under review by the admissions committee under the school decisions tab until today. It was changed to "We have received your application and it is in process. It takes up to 6 weeks to process your application. Once your file is complete, we will forward your application to the committee. The committee review will take up to 8 weeks.". Did this happen to anyone else and what does this mean?

Same thing here. I think it means that our applications are actually under review now.

yes, I got that email awhile back and my status changed to "allow 7-8 weeks for review". It just takes 6 weeks for them to put together your files and send it off to the UoP admissions committee. They will then actively review your file for up to 8 weeks, and if they decide to interview(or accept) you, you'll probably get your interview within that 8 weeks...if not, either you'll get rejected or be on the deferred pile until they decide to re-review this pile.

if my logic is right, wouldnt this mean applying early is BAD? usually the most competitive apps are the early ones and being compared with the strong applications early on for only 8 weeks is just a huge disadvantage.

If you apply late it will mean you will be compared to weaker apps for that 8 weeks thus giving you more of a fighting chance.

I don't think so. I think you get scored by some metric and I am pretty sure they (adcoms) know the traditional relative strengths of the applicants they want. It's not like they only award X number of interviews each time they meet and that number is fixed - they adjust to what they see and can go backwards which is why you have that 8 week/2 month buffer if they find out later that the applicant pool isn't as deep as they thought it was.
