Is it appropriate to mention newly submitted (but not yet accepted) manuscripts or accepted abstracts/invited presentations in an update letter?

Thanks!

Accepted abstracts and plans to present at a conference would be good to include in an update letter. I wouldn't bother mentioning manuscripts unless they've been accepted.

ETA: On second thought, if you're going to be submitting an update letter anyway, I'd go ahead and mention the submitted manuscript--it's not going to hurt anything and could potentially help. Not worth submitting a letter on its own for that though.
