i want to hear from those who have been accepted (this year or years before). were you interviewed/accepted to a school you sent update letters/letter of interest to? do update letter/letter of interest make a difference?

i applied last year to UIC, sent the school whole bunch of **** post interview (two additional letters of recommendation including one from a MD, 2 letters of interests one updating my activities and the other thanking them for the interview and how much i loved the school). at the end, i got rejected without being put on the waitlist and the school waitlists 99% of their non-rejected post interview applicants in May.

I want to hear some success stories, not only post-interview...but also pre-interview.
