in case anyone actually cares . . .

as i've posted before, i found that attempting the questions outright wasn't worth the time and effort. i needed review first, because raising my eyebrows at the questions and then looking at then reading the explainations was NOT a way to learn the material.

so i've gone through biochem (kaplan, and lippincott chapter reviews), then i did every biochem question in BSS and did very well (i used the index at the back).

when i finish my micro review, i'll then do the micro Q's in BSS in the same fashion . . .

and so on and so forth through the different subjects.

i've found it to be the best way to 1) learn the material, 2) evaluate how well i know it (at this stage at least), and 3) to get the most out of the BSS series

just thought i'd post for those who are using BSS as well

Yeah I have the BSS CD and im not really sure how to use it. Compared to RX and UW, the questions just arent board-style. I knew that going in, but I dont see how great it is to learn concepts based on these questions (UW is really tough like BSS, and has more thorough explanations, and is board-style). Plus you need to keep the program open forever in order to track cumulative performance. I might just do the Path questions now, because Ive heard they are especially good, and made by Jesus himself (Edward Goljan). I'll probably do the others later on, maybe after school gets out.

I really like the utility of USMLErx, UW, and Robbins path right now with course work, so maybe I'll just stick with those.

Any of the Step 1 veterans who used BSS, any advice on using this with course work, or at all? Its like a giant monolith sent down to Earth from another age.

which book are you starting with from the set? General principles in the basic sciences?? what order are you using the five books??

what index are you referring to??? the one in parentheses in the answer keys?

I'm not taking the boards till June, but I'm planning to use all the BSS books- my plan is do 2 weeks of studying, then 2 1/2 weeks of questions, starting with the BSS books in what I think of as the order they go in: General Principles, Normal and Abnormal Processes, then Systems (I, II, and III).

i don't know, i haven't seen the CD. i think someone told me that it has xtra questions . . . ? (as if 3,850 isn't enough)

CD has just questions and some general test-taking strategy. Are people using the books really looking at the text or just interested in the questions? I'm a little skeptical about some people's love affair with BSS and it may be because I just have the CD and not the books. Not that I need extra books.
