Update on my TA misrepresenting my grades to me.

Posted a thread a few days ago about it, but ultimately deleted it because it caused way too much drama.

The professor of this class (who is also the head of the department) agreed that it wasn't fair that our grades weren't accurate until after the semester ended, and he agreed that this likely affected our "trajectory" for the final exam. He curved everybody up a letter grade. So, my B was curved to an A, and anybody with a C was curved to a B, etc.

Overall, I'm happy, and I'd like to thank the few posters who encouraged me to escalate things.

What happened to the TA? Banished to Siberia?

And if medicine doesn't work out for you, perhaps you should consider a career as a lawyer .....

I don't think anything happened to her, as she probably had some say in this decision, too. At the end of the day, the mistake was fixed before grades were officially due, and that's what matters.

I doubt my email had any major pull, aside from the fact that I know how to use the grading software, but I believe our class (which was around ~55 last time I checked) was overall negatively affected by this. They probably flipped a ****, and the professor's inbox most likely felt the wrath of 55 premeds this morning.

Have you ever felt the wrath of 55 "omg you dont understand, im going to apply to medical school and like totally need this grade" premeds?

I laughed so hard at this cuz it’s so true. My microbiology professor felt the wrath of pre-nursing students so I can’t imagine how it is with premeds.

My organic chemistry class wasn't really that hard, but the average was 45%, for some weird reason. I think a lot of kids just focused on the notes instead of doing the problems.

Anyway, the professor added a VERY fat curve because he didn't want to deal with 400 pre-professional students at his office over break/following semester. I keep in touch with one of the TA's, and she said students get so upset and waste so much time, it's just not worth it. I know, for sure, that they didn't have to do this, but it seems like the path of least resistance.
 
Congrats. Must’ve been a nice professor. I didn’t expect him/her to change it tbh. For me appealing never works and it didn’t even work in high school when a substitute teacher screwed most of the class on a test.

Congrats! What class was this by the way? I don't think you ever told us.

He got 3 91s and an 80. He THOUGHT he earned an A because he THOUGHT his second test was a 100. He earned a B. Unless I’m thinking of a different thread.

Again, irrelevant because it got resolved. Whether I think he deserved a B or an A is irrelevant. Happy it worked out.

He only 'thought' that because it was incorrectly entered by the professor or TA, hence resulting in a lower final grade (studied only minimum needed to receive A - which is reasonable.) Professors mistake, hence A earned by the student.

There are so many flaws with this logic I don’t even know where to start. But I’m not going to get back into it and derail OP’s thread.
 
Hell yeah. That's what I was hoping for! Congrats. I'm glad they decided on that. It was TA's fault for misleading as much as she did to all of those students.
