I am about to send an update and LOI to a school post II, but was wondering if should include a future promotion. I've started training, and my manager said I will complete my training in the next few weeks, but due to a company policy I won't officially have the title/position until the end of March; can I still include it?

Also for a new volunteering position should I mention, days/hours?

Thank you!

Neither of these updates you mentioned are worth updating the committee and highly doubt would make a difference in your overall application.

1. a job promotion is always good in the sense you earn more but is it going to make a difference in medical school? Probably not. Unless you're telling me you went from junior employee to CEO managing the company.

2. You had enough volunteer hours to receive an interview invite. Doing a new volunteer gig isn't really gonna do much.

Things that probably matter in updates: new grades significantly above your average, new authorship in research paper publications, patents, winning a prestigious award.

Thank you for your input!

I didn't think it would be groundbreaking; It's more of a bridge to my LOI (low yeild schools that take them into consideration) to let them know I'm keeping busy while letting them know specifics of why they are my top choice. Should I still scrap it and just send the LOI?

Thanks again

I think the overall consensus on this site is that LOIs are not that effective. Ultimately, if it'll make you feel better by sending one in, it probably won't hurt you but just know that it probably won't help you much either.

Thank you so much for your reply, I'll probably just hold off on sending it for now.
