With that said, would you say a 5th-authorships on an accepted abstracts are worth the update? It seems like they are differing opinions on how much abstracts can add to an application?

No. Publications are the only research-oriented thing worthy of an update letter. Abstracts and presentations are honestly a dime a dozen, even as an undergrad, if you are halfway productive.
