Anyone know what merits an addition to your application? For example, I have a new job and just received a service award. Is that the sort of thing you should send an update about?

Secondly, what's the best way to do that? A letter, email, or phone call?

Any experience or advice welcome.

I would call each school and ask what they prefer. Some prefer email, others a letter, it really depends.
 
I've been calling or e-mailing to find out what format each school prefers. In most cases, e-mail is find. A few schools prefer mail. I think they will just add the letter to you file and it may get noticed next time you application is up for review. So whatever you want to them to know.
