I got acceptance from U Penn on 10/28/04.
Part-1-89, GPA-2.83 ece, Toefl-257, MPH, Research + dental assisting experience in US is around 3 yrs. I was interviewed on Oct 14. My interview was OK, grilled about my GPA.
I did not have many hopes seeing the credentials of many other applicants. I consider myself very fortunate.
I thank all the SDN members for their spirit to share very useful info about the whole process of getting into a dental school. I personally thank G.P, Arvind, International, dhee, Solafide74, Mariya,B.G, krishna, tooth mail and blue birdy for their support during my preperation for U Penn interview.

Sorry to heard about that...I know that feeling, but as you said we have to keep the motivation up and keep trying. I hope you have better luck with your other applications. What I don't understand is how somebody like tempabc did not got in...I mean, his are PRETTY decent stats...I wonder what happened....
Anyway I wish you both the best luck and keep the faith...
 
I want to thank you all for your support about my rejection, I think I have taken one step front in outspokenly comunicating my rejection, cause there is a common need INSIDE OF ALL THE REJECTED to let it come out and do some emotional hygiene.

Well after an Adrenaline Rush, I went out of my room and gazed the sky and said to myself;

AS LONG AS WE LIVE THERE WILL BE A CHANCE.

I am leaving tomorrow to L.A. cause I have an Interview at USC and wont be back until next week, so for all of you I wish all the luck and If you get rejected lets just reorganize and fight back harder, If I dont get accepted this time in the other Universities my plan is very simple:
I am going to RETAKE PART 1 (current 88).
welcome all the PM's whoever wants to join in.

as the late Ronald reagan used to say;

"Grace Under Pressure" no matter the adversities always give it a smile, we only have 2 choices;

1.- Get depressed and be sorry for yourself for the coming months and feel like a looser.
OR
2.- Reorganize, set your strategy again, plan ahead and start with Part 1 again under one implacable conditon YOU HAVE TO SCORE HIGHER.

i think people who had to get have already got their accpetances by now.i called up UPENN today and they said that they have already sent the last set of acceptances on friday which means we can only wait for rejection or wait list since monday morning should be the last day for us to get acceptance.
if anybody has any other version from the office pls let us know.

I am sorry for you as u couldnt get thru the Upenn. But i think u must be knowing the reason behind ur rejection. I think it is due to that, u r doing some kind of masters and couldnt graduate before the due date they wanT. Cos same problem happened to one fellow i know.

u will get it throu`. we r just waiting for our upenn reply.still we dont get anything from them. even its our bad luc we didnt knew the imp. of toefl, so we hv to give it again, so we r preparing for that. Though we a good score in part 1, the usc, ucsf, ucla wont accept our application and we didn`t knew that. so lets see wat happen???????????/

As for me, I was interviewed on 21st Oct n havent received any intimation from them as of now.Keeping my fingers crossed! :scared:

i just got a call from upenn and they want me to take my interview on 10th november
it is strange because they send me a rejection letter on 30th september and now they call me asking me why i did not confirm with them for the interview
looks like they are highly disorganised
i just want to know what is the interview like and what are the questions put to us
also what is a good and cheap hotel near the university
if anybody is going on the interview on the same day please let me know if they want to share rooms
and besides is it true that they have already selected the applicants for 2005 and this interview for us is just for waiting list??
am i just wasting my time and money going there??

Did they give you any reasons for your rejection? Your stats is very decent and why rejected two times??
 
No they didnt tell any reason why they rejected me,but what they tell usually is that we dodnt fit exactly, in to the programm in their school.Every thing in the hands of lopez,what she wants no one knows.

hi,sometimes in life we give it our best shot and stil things dont work the way we planned,we feel upset,we feel depressed but then later realize that what happened was for the best.trust me when i say this coz i speak from experience and that i why i have since left everything to gods will.we as humans sometimes just dont knowe the answer.when i saw arvinds score on sdn in may i was like 😀 👍 😀 👍 ,what a great score .trust god arvind,i am sure he has something great planned for you.there is great power in prayer,i have always believed that.and so those of us who get admitted into the colleg of our choice, its great for those of us who dont,there is something greater planned.,believe in it.

Just curious to know as you have an acceptance from Tufts and BU ..how long are you allowed to keep your seat before you decide between the schools? Do they have a time constraint..like if you don't tell them soon that you might not get the seat or anything like that so that they call someone else from the list?..
Do we have to pay a fee to keep the seat reserved and is this fee refundable?

hi,
we are given atleast a month to pay the fees.in tufts we need to pay in three installments and very comfortable.yes we do have to send acceptance otherwise our admission will be rescinded.the fee is partially refundable in tufts.they refund 500 out of 5000 dollars we pay as deposit.

i can't. i mean, it is a very personal decision. everyone should decide this things for himsefl. there is no formula to evaluate every school and to say - this one is good, others are not. you should see every aspect of this : what do you realy want - fast and easy graduation, postdoctoral intentions, city , look money you will spend/save, and all that factors which contribute to your final decision. i don't know which school is better, most of you probably think that this is upenn. probably it is true ( or not). i don't care. i graduated form 6 year university, very hard dental program, and now i just want a licens to work. 8 - 9 years spend in studying is enough. do you realy think that one day your patients will ask you: " hey Doc, where did you graduate?" and they have any idea which school is the best one.. c'mon, it is much more important to be good , exelent dentist, and this you can not learn in those two years programs. you shold know it already.

Do you,people, know what kind of magnifying loops are required for the BU program? Can you bring your own loops or you must purchase them through the university (like the IBM leptop)?

Just wondering as i have not received anything yet .I had called Cathy and she told me they sent the letters yesterday so i guess should hear from them this week.

I agree with emsi. And something else is important, when you receive the acceptance, because you have to pay a lot of money in few weeks. This happen to me, I just attended interview at UPENN and BU and I got accepted to both, but I wanted UOP. Unfortunetly I had to pay for my seat before the interview date at UOP. And I chose UPENN because it is cheep to live there , compare with Boston, ( especialy when you come from a very expensive area, you are very carefully with this in the future) and the students are expose to more practical. But if you want a cheep school, BU is in top of the list, cost you only 105,000 compare with 125,000 for UPENN.And one more point for UPENN you have to pay from your pochet 20,000$ ( the summer program ) which was very difficult for me to find this money. If I couldn't find it than i had gone to BU.
I have a friend who chose UCLA last year because she wants to specialize and UCLA is the cheepest school for this. Somebody else chose UOP from all CA schools, because it is the most profesional school.
Are many factors when you take this decision. But the most important thing it is to get a seat somewhere, to take the licence here.

yeah, i think this is the most imortant thing. at this days, with this high competition, every year spend not working as a dentist cost you much more than to wait for the "right" or "best" school, since they may never take you. hey, try to imagine 2 or 3 years ago , having scores around 87- 90 in NBDE Part 1, is like having today scores around 93 -95. i don`t know, after 2 years, probably you will must earn at least 93 to have at least slight chances of getting acceptance....
 
how can all be accepted if deadline is jan 28?

im guessing they're still interviewing to make the extra $$$

at 50 a pop.... interview lasts 15min... thats 200/hr... covers overhead :meanie:

I have Upenn interview on 17th . I am very tensed, dont know what they are looking for. I gave Bu interview on 28th but no news so far 🙁 . This whole procedure is so frustrating. I dont know if there is any point in attending Upenn interview as many of u guys with very good scores got rejection letters. 😕

I have my interview on dec 1st..Can anyone tell me how many will be interviewed per day?.and I heared we will be having personal interview with 3 interviewers?..If so how long will each interview be?
 
When i was interviewed ,we were 6 people and they told us they take 6-7 people on each interview day.They have 3 interviews, each of which lasts for 15 mins to half an hour but not more than that. 👍
