if anyone being interviewed wants to meet up during happy hr in our lounge PM me! 😀
Thanks for responding! I would much rather know than not 😀 Best of luck to you!! If you wouldn't mind, let me know how it goes (via PM or whatever you prefer)!! I think it would be nice to get an interview from my IS at least, but I wasn't 100% keen on going with UPenn yet. 👍I'll be thinking of you that Friday! As well as everyone else that has an interview that day!!! Happy thoughts to all!!!
Large animal day is for people interested in equine and/or food animal, specifically.
Also, some advice: Be prepared to recognize the fact that Penn does not have any sort of strength in aquatic animal med. That is, don't say that you want to go to Penn because you specifically want to be an aquatic animal vet. Opportunities to really get involved in these areas lie outside of Penn's curriculum (ie. Aquavet seminars, special species club, etc).
So a family friend (who happens to be male and in Penn Med right now) at a holiday party got all excited when hearing I was applying to Penn. "you could be part of the Penn 15 class!!"
Me: 😕:eyeroll: and then maybe the inner 8 year old got a little

I don't get it. 😕

You know, the Pen15 club...
I ended that line of questioning pretty quickly with, "there are clearly a number of ways to approach this issue, and there is no one correct answer in all situations". Thankfully, we moved on to something else with no further discussion..
For the euthanasia Q....they probably won't let you stop answering until you eventually say u'd euthanize...they usually add onto the problem "what if the owner says ____" "what if the dog would be tortured or left on the street" "what if it is impossible that no one takes the dog and you can't afford to keep it". I didn't get asked an ethics Q but my idea on how to stay out of a debate is to say "I would do this then this then this, if it is not possible i would do this and this...and ALL that is not possible I would euthanize" That way, they can't really say any follow up or argue with you because you listed every option and even dared to say u'd euthanize (which i think is mostly what they want you to know...that you WILL have to euthanize an animal sometime in your life)

Thanks for the advice. Fortunately I have known all about the difficulties of getting into aquatics for a while now, especially the fact that almost no vet school has "inside" opportunities to get a head start in this field. The advice I have been given from the aquatic animal vet that I know (and the non-aquatic animal vets I know) is to get a great education at any vet school, and start worrying about additional training/experience after school is over (and probably after a few years working with SA/LA). Besides, you never know what field you will end up in, and UPenn is an excellent school to start this exploration.
i thought of you right now when i checked my facebook and was invited to an Ocean Explorers Symposium at Penn lol
Sweeeet 👍
Ah my interview is in less than three days!!!! I made the mistake of checking the weather and now I am freaked about the snow and my flight down and back that same day.
On the plus side, a delayed or cancelled flight means I can go to happy hour! 😀
I had to look it up on urban dictionary, lol. Apparently I missed out on that lovely piece of american pop culture. (Possibly because I was living in another country but most likely because I was home schooled 🙄)

What, you aren't driving the convertible with the wind in your ears down to Philly?!? I'm so dissappointed. 🙁 (in other words - I love your avatar! It cracks me up every time). Seriously, though, good luck Friday!!!![]()

so does anyone know what they want a photo for?
good luck guys, come see us in anatomy lab 😀
...I heard that we have twice as many people trying to change their interview date and there may be some people taking advantage of how nice I said the administration is ..?!?!
Do not take advantage of this!! vacations are a ridiculous reason to reschedule!
Good luck to everyone who has already interviewed/is interviewing! Does this mean that the rest of us that haven't heard anything are most likely to be rejected? or does this mean lots more waiting... 😵
woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am so excited to meet everyone!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm super super excited for the first group this friday lol
Congrats to everyone who finished interviewing today!! I LOVED meeting everyone and I had such a great time at happy hour. We had about 12 prevets come...amazing!! I think this will be a good semester of happy hours. I hope everyone enjoyed meeting the students and all the doggies 🙂
Lastly, nice meeting everyone today! Mike, I'm calling you out! If anyone here is lurking...please PM me instead of just coming and knowing everything about me when I know nothing about you!it is a little strange. Thanks to everyone who has written me, even if you never posted before, it is nice to know your name and know that you read SDN and want to chat.

I hope everyone had a great day today!👍👍👍
I was just wondering, approximately how many pre-vets interviewed?
For everyone who interviewed today! Hope it went well for all!
Speaking of wanting to avoid changing interview dates, does anyone know when the LA/New Bolton interview day will be this year? I have the chance to buy really cheap plane tickets right now for an accepted students weekend, but I don't want to risk taking up a weekend that MIGHT get an actual interview (Penn is the last school I have to hear from). Last year, it looked like the last interview day was 2/12? But I also have heard people mention interviews going into March? Any clues for this year? I suppose this is something I could call and ask on Monday but cheap cross country tickets don't always last that long!
So glad to hear you had a great day Shadow23, and thanks for all of the details! I can't believe there were 30 pre-vets! How did they fit all of the interviews in? I guess they had different interviewers?
I have an interview on 2/4 and am so nervous already. Everything is riding on this one day for me, so.
Good luck to everyone intervewing, and for those still waiting (and don't worry, there's still alot of time left 🙂).
Ha. I say let 'em try to reschedule "because I'm going on vacation that week." That will certainly let the Ad Coms know who not to choose for the class of 2015. Easy way to thin the herd.![]()
