UPenn c/o 2015

lol i know, so true. The thing is, i don't think anyone actually said "vacation" but the adcoms are now suspicious of why more people are changing dates than normal. Which means it is either a huge coincidence that more people have interview comflicts this year, or people are taking advantage of it for other silly reasons. So basically...i guess it just looks bad for everyone who tries to change now 🙁 There is really no way of knowing who actually needs help with a conflict or who is taking advantage. Or maybe this really IS just a coincidence! (i hope)

I'm actually pretty sure schools are aware of when other interview dates are...of course not all of them when they are all spread out but Penn would probably only be really willing to change if it was something like VRCM (what's their abbrev??) who from year to year consistenly refuse to change their interview dates, so I would imagine they are probably aware of virginia's interview dates and thus the dates ppl are asking to move had better correspond with them.

I'm also not sure if they can see where else ppl apply via VMCAS.

I'd imagine that if people asked for a date that was not a known conflict and said it was for an interview at X school Penn would be aware of it and probably note it on the persons file. that would prb be a bad thing.

but seriously, you applied to vet school go to your interview dates!

good point! they can see where you apply. The only schools i can think of off the top of my head who have 1 weekend for interviewing is vmrcvm and IL. But last year IL was on a Monday/Tues i think, I remember it being a strange day.

LSU has one interview weekend for OOS applicants. If I get an interview there it's going to be really hard to get to Baton Rouge for a Saturday interview after my Friday interview at Penn. Trying not to worry too far in advance but I don't want to give a bad impression if I need to try to change my Penn interview for another one. It's definitely not a vacation adcom, I promise!!!!!

Hope everyone's interviews went well yesterday & best of luck to all who's interviews are coming up :luck::xf::luck:

Anyone with suggestions for those of us still waiting? I'm reading lots of interesting animal books & I shadowed with a large animal vet yesterday (which was really cool!) but my anxiety is starting to win out.... 🙁

Again, lots and lots of luck to everyone!👍

I had my interview at Penn this past Friday! I think it went well! I'm hoping to post feedback asap! Does anyone know when we should hear? Beyond anxious!

When I interviewed they called me the next day. I think it depends on your interviewer - they may choose to call or they may just let you get your letter. They notify you of acceptances pretty quickly though.

I got my phone call of acceptance at around 2pm on the Monday after I interviewed 🙂

Good luck guys!

Ahhhhh two missed calls today from the admissions office when I got out of work at 8pm (one call at 1:37pm and the other from 5:10pm)! Voicemail said to give them a call back, which I will do tomorrow morning. Yay that must be good news! 😀

Congratulations catscatscats! A great day all around. 🙂

Second this. Visit interview feedback site (I posted my survey there the other day) and go to happy hour 😀. Plan travel accordingly not only because you will want to visit happy hour, but because traveling same day is super stressful and I regret it immensely!

Forgot to say thank you to everyone who congratulated me. Here goes: THANK YOU!!! 😀

As the resident antisocial Penn person 😀 I have to say don't feel pressured to come to happy hour if that isn't your thing. It will have no bearing on your acceptance so only do it if you feel like it! I know after the 6 hour interview / tour marathon I was only too happy to head home.

(let's just ignore the fact that I don't go to happy hour even though I go to school here now!)

I too skipped the happy hour and I was staying overnight. I was really tired of having to talk to the students all day.

But then again, I am bunnity's antisocial competition. And I (mostly) skip happy hours now as wellb- although I always seem to "intend" to go.

hi i have a question about the interview day itself..
the invite says aside from the intro/overview of the school, you're there for around 3 hours. for an hour and a half you're touring, and for the other hour and a half you're in the interview and in discussions with vet students.

i guess the tour's self explanatory, but is the tour also with the vet students on adcom? and the discussions, are they more panel style where everyone sits in a room and people ask questions one by one or you're just mingling altogether chatting about this and that?

and i read the interview feedback but i'm wondering about the hot and cold interviewers. are you interviewed by 2 people, one knowing everything in your application and the other knowing nothing, in the same room? and each takes turns asking you questions? or is it two 15 minute interviews in a row with one person each?

also heard from ms herpen in adcom that they typically accept around 50% of interviewees, but is it more or less 50% of each group or rather..most of the first group, then a lot of the second, some of the third, etc. to the point that the later interviewees are competing for very few spots? sorry it's 3:30 in the morning and i'm full of questions about a lot of things i shouldn't even be worrying about haha what will happen will happen no matter what.

i cannot waitttttttt until january's over!!!!! so. excited. and. nervous. thanks in advance for answering my million questions!! 😀

congrats jl123 on the invite! We'll be there the same day!🙂

The vet students you talk to throughout the day and who give the tours meet with the interviewers/adcom at the end of the day to help with the decisions (though they don't vote, but my interviewer said they have significant input as far as vocalizing their opinions about the candidates pre-voting), so yes, your tour guides have input. The discussions during the interview stage of the day are not panel style - everyone waiting to be called for their interview hangs out in a room together and mingles with other candidates and the vet students that acted as tour guides earlier in the day. For the interviews, you are in the room with both interviewers (one hot one cold) for the 30 minutes. I know nothing about percentages related to admission from each group.

Is there anyone who hasn't heard anything from UPenn yet? I am home on break but I am having my mail held for my school address. I call the post office every day to see if I have anything from UPenn and so far nothing! I am really hoping I am in the last round of mailings (if there is one left) and they didn't just forget about me. 🙁 Even if it was a "No" it would be nice not to be waiting anymore!

Don't get too worried - lots of us haven't heard anything. If you look at last year's interview thread, the last interview invites go out in late January for early Feb.
On the other hand, last year they didn't contact me until like, March, to finally let me know I was rejected. 🙄 As if I hadn't figured it out by then!

I'm still waiting to hear back from Penn, but like it was mentioned earlier, I am LA and I don't think we will hear until later in feb? Has any other exclusive LA received an interview yet?

If you read back in the thread, you'll see Penn structures its interview process different than most. They do small batches of notifications, and then interviews every Friday in Jan-Feb, possibly even into March. So far, the trend has been one small batch of notifications each week for their next Friday date (so, last week people got invited for Feb 4, etc). So we probably have ~3 more weeks of notifications coming (at least that's what I'm hoping!). Also, if you're LA, they do all those interviewees on the same day in Feb so they can take them out to New Bolton.

I'm LA too and I haven't heard anything... but I'm hoping it's just because they'll do LA late feb, so I'm going to try not to worry about it until then (but its so hard not to obsess over it!) I'll definitely let you know when (if 😕) I hear anything!! Good luck!!

LOL! ok, so no pressure 😛 However, DO talk to the students on the admissions committee during your interview because their opinion does matter

Not to make anyone panic but apparently at least one LA interview invite went out today. I'm surprised it came out so early! I dunno what the date of the LA day is though.

I totally share in the feeling awaring1! Just know you're not in it alone. I'm eagerly awaiting as I'm sure others are 😉 But, like everyone's been saying, I think they do e-mails - so make sure to check that as well! Best of luck!! :luck::xf::luck:

Oh, and btw: CONGRATS SHADOW23!!! I was rooting for you! (along with all of the 1st round of interviewees!)😍

If they did emails that would be awesome and save me many hours of driving to the post office. (Last time I did that it was only to pick up a rejection letter. I ended up leaving my drivers license there and they needed to express mail it to me so I would be able to get onto a plane to fly to my ISU interview. Overall not fun.) I don't think I saw anyone mention emails before, but I only skimmed the last few pages and as my previous posts show, I am not that great at skimming.

And congratulations to everyone that got in! It must be the most amazing feeling of accomplishment ever!

EDIT: Just checked the official interview thread and everyone has gotten emails.

Awaring1- I'm also waiting! It's hard having heard from everywhere else and still be up in the air at Penn...

I REALLY have my fingers crossed for this week. Not sure why, I've been pretty stoic about it in previous weeks. Just anxious to hear some news, I suppose!

I'm an OOS-er and have not heard from Penn either. But I still have a few other schools I'm waiting on.

Hi guys! I'm still waiting too! I would concur with Kaydubs that, especially since we're getting into mid/late Jan, people will most likely get notice via email, not snail mail. I've been avoiding SDN the last few weeks b/c I was becoming discouraged that all the invites had pretty much gone out and since I wasn't able to send my fall grades until Jan 6th, I figured I was really screwed. I feel a lot better now seeing that there might still be a chance!! My fingers are crossed for us all 🙂

For those being interviewed this fri, yay! can't wait to meet you if you stay in the evening! I always wanted to mention a change of events, instead of happy hour in the lounge, there is a pig roast sponsored by (an organization with an acronym i can't remember). It starts at 5:30 but I will be going up to "collect" whoever is interested and we can hang out in the 30 min gap 😀 But besides that everything is similar, lots of students to talk to, drinks (cash 1-2$), and doggies running around everywhere!

Just curious as I'm packing my bag for this weekend-- how bad is the snow in Philly? Should I bring my snow boots and then change into nicer shoes once I'm at the Hill Pavilion? Or is there not much snow there at all? We got blasted here in Boston with almost 2 ft, I think.

I would want snow boots. Its not too bad here, we got like 5 inches but the sidewalks and streets are wet and there are ice-y patches everywhere and its cold. I would bring at least a pair of shoes you don't mind getting wet, then change into your nicer shoes.
good luck this friday!
