Hi everyone,
I've finally been accepted in UPenn. so happy.
but I have couple of Qs. any answer or guide would be really appreciated.

1-is there anyone among pass students that starts pre enrolement program with F2 visa? I mean, do we have to start the preenrolment with f1?
and if not, how long did it take for you to change your visa to F1?

2- did you guys get loan for pre enrolment ($19,000)?
3- Do you recommend university housing, what are other good options?

thanks

congrats!!!:hardy::banana::banana:
Dont think you can be a student w/ F2. You HAVE to change to F1. Speak to the International office and ask them as to when can u get started. I suggest as soon as possible coz change of status can be a real dragging, drawn out process(atleast in my experience).:luck:

welcome to U PENN I am ACCEPTED FOR THIS YEAR TOO
i don't know about visa but for the 19,000 pre-enrollment program it is your responsibility and you can do one of two
1- take a separate loan but you have to start paying right after you took the loan and this would be around 300 $ every month
2- barrow it from family or friend and pay it after you graduate it is not easy but 300 every month would be allot of money because you have to take it from your life expenses
housing i asked my friends and each one have a different idea it's all depend on you what you like ,who much you want to spend and what kind of life you want to live
for example there is places close to school cheep but not very safe and nothing to do
places 15 min away more safe more fun
places 20 min very safe for family or someone who like quiet places
it is all about you
welcome again and looking forward to see you all at U penn on March 30th

guys when did u appear in the interview for UPENN??? i mean which date

Hi, thank you so much guys.
I have another Q about loan,
I 've heard that Upenn international dental students can get loan from Citibank without cosigner.
if anyone has any information or experience please share it, getting loan is going to brcome a huge hassle for me since the person that promised to be my cosigner encounterd an unexpected problem and can not cosign me anymore 🙁
I don't want to lose my dream school because of lack of money🙁

my interview was on Oct. 21

Did everybody got acceptance? I am still waiting. I got interviewed on Oct 14. Please reply.

Also, are you guys receiving the acceptance via call or mail?
I got accepted, I got a call from school regarding my acceptance and 2 days later I got my package!

Hello,

I am interested in sharing accomodation near Phili for UPENN 2009. Please send me private message if you are interested.

About me, I am male from India

Hey ppl,
Congrats and a warm welcome to Penn!!
I am a PASS student and I remember how excited I was when I got my acceptance call last yr!🙂
Abt the visa issues, pls call the school and talk to Ms.Sue Schwartz. She will tell you who to contact, she is extremely helpful.
Also, you cannot get a loan for the summer program, it has to come out of pocket.
We just got an email today about citibank loans without cosigners- this is NO longer available becos of the failing economy and those who have already applied for loans will be OK but next yr they have to find citizens or GC holders as a cosigner with the rates increasing more than 2% the current rate.
About housing, I would advise to u to live close to school if u r single or married without kids. The good places are between 40th and 43rd street..u can prbly go max to 45th but Penn patrol ends at 43rd. Pls look at the intersections of Spruce, Walnut,Chestnut,Baltimore.
The further u go that is after 45th street..it becomes very unsafe.
Around school , patrolling is very good as long as u dont get drunk and r out at 2 am in the morning..u will be fine!
You can also check out apts at Center city, abt 10 mins away, a lot of social life there but apts r expensive.
Suburbs like Bryn Mawr, Ardmore,Wynwood,Haverford are very good and very safe for students with families,kids- if u r coming by car it will take abt 25 mins and by train , it will be abr 35-40 mins.
Philly is very well connected by public transport so if u r living far from school, make sure u have access to the train station.
Living close to school has its advantages that u can have more fun and attend more after school get-togethers.Especially in winter, when it becomes dark by 5 pm..it gets difficult to stay back and enjoy when u live far away as u r bothered abt how u will get home when its so dark!

One more thing before I forget, about 5-6 of u will be selected from the PASS program to work at their satellite clinics also known as DCC(Dental care centers)- they r private practices run by the school. One is situated inside the school, one at university city at 36th street I think and one in the suburb I mentioned above called Bryn Mawr. So if u get any emails from the school asking u if u would like to work there, pls say yes! I work in one of them and feel so lucky to be part of it. Its similar to how it will be in the real world, u have ur own cubicle and definitely less stressful than working at the school.

Please let me know if u guys have any other questions..will try my best to reply...Penn is a good school, it does have its pros and cons like all schools and my best advice is do not have impossible expectations of the school when u join(any school for that matter), consider urself lucky that u got into a good school and u will be getting a good education rather than cribbing about what u dont like abt the school and u will have a great time here!

I have seen students coming here with a lot of experience back home and thinking they know everything but begin to realize how much they dont know once they start the course. It will be very hectic but u will definitely enjoy it..atleast I do!!

Good luck with the housing search and see ya at Penn soon!👍

I have also been accepted to Upenn and I-m looking for accomodation close to school.I-m a female and I am looking for another female to share accomodation.
What can we do about the living expenses starting from march 30?
I am waiting for your reply and I am very ,very...happy🙂))

welcome to PENN!!!
as rtvj has said, don't bring too much of expectations!!
overall, it's a wonderful experience here
start looking through craigslist for temporary housing for the summer program or campus apts. com is also a good resource,
all the best!!!!👍

Can someone please tell me if the regular classes start right after the pre enrollment program or do we get a little break before that starts?

congrats to all who got accepted,,guys any one who was interviewed on October 28th got a response , would u please answer??

Saru, Once the summer course is over, u have 2 choices, either get into clinics right away or take a 1 month break.
U will have July or August off and u can choose which one u want .
I took August off so I started clinics right after the summer prgrm. I am glad I did it becos it gave me a breather for the long haul ahead!
But it depends on what u want to do..Once the break is over, u will be bombarded with lectures lectures and more lectures along with clinics.
Anyways u can make the decision once u come to school...

Hi rtvj
I would like to know what are the chances of getting accepted from the the alternate status. i appreciate your response.

I know a couple of students from my class who got in from the waiting list.
A unique case was one guy who got in the waiting list a yr before and then applied again this yr and got accepted without attending the interview the second time!
So u never know...good luck!

what about another group that will be set by tsunamii??? Please let just stay in ONE group.

That is fine ilovedental. Orkut and Facebook have different features to stay in touch now and in future. People can join both the groups to stay in touch.

Every class of UPenn makes a community on Orkut too.

I agree that we should stay in one group only so I give up the idea of facebook group and let us all join penngirl group
Cheers
