Other than not getting a rejection letter, is there any real advantage to withdrawing your application before they reject you? i.e., If I end up reapplying to medical school next year, will it look better to have withdrawn my application instead of having been officially rejected?

If you have no other acceptances, than it may not be in your best interest. That being said, if you have no other acceptances, I would tend to think that re-application to Upenn would not be fruitful anyway.

Don't withdraw yet guys! I just lucked out not half an hour ago with an invite for the first two weeks of February. Hope you all hear something soon too. :luck:

I just hope I'm not one of those leftovers Neuronix mentioned....

Just got the deferred message. Oh well. It was a long shot anyway.

Congrats and good luck with the interview Dr Durden! At least UPenn is still giving out interviews. I was complete late September and sent an update letter last week...have not heard from them yet.

i still have the screening message on my status page. i just decided to email the MD/PhD office to see if my file has been reviewed. i'll post here if i get a response.

I sent in a letter of update the first week of Jan and it took them about 2 1/2 weeks to update my page to deferred. I figured before that they just didnt care enough to do it before. Hopkins and Emory did the same thing, not that I was actually expecting to get invites from them at this point.

The last MD/PhD interview day is next week and those invites already went out. Sorry 🙁
I figured as much. Oh well. Thanks for letting me know.

Since you are a student there, as a suggestion...it would be nice if they posted that information on their website (I think it just says they will offer "a few dates" and doesn't give any reference as to when the last one is).

I agree with this and I will bring it up with the program admins when I see them. I was thinking about posting the whole list (there's 5, next year probably 6) on SDN before the interview season started, but thought I might be overstepping my bounds.

As for the MD side... You don't get any MD consideration at Penn after being rejected for MD/PhD. I don't know when they instituted that, but it's true this year.

Right, I just read that (literally 2 seconds ago) on their website. Thanks for the help. 🙂

cool! it's good to know =) definitely better knowing than having a false hope.

yea that information would definitely help to next year's applicants what already is an emotionally exhausting process.

Out of curiosity, you were a late applicant or no? Congrats anyways.

No, I was complete in late September, and the long delay for the MD invite concerns me. But no complaints here; I feel fortunate for whatever I can get.

Wait... Emory updates status pages to deferred?

No, Emory and Hopkins finally listed my application as "complete" after i sent them letters of update 3 weeks ago and asked why they never sent me a "you are complete" email, even tho they got everything months and months ago. (basically, it took me contacting them to confirm that I was rejected, even tho they didnt say it exactly like that). I was thinking that if I hadnt got officially deferred yet from UPenn, that I actually had a shot, but I am deferred now. Apparently, there are people who had the "your application is being reviewed" message up until the day they got the rejection letter in March.

My application must have been such a joke that they didnt even bother telling me i was complete. 👎 boo Emory! boo Hopkins! Whatever, its not like I even wanted to go there anyway.. 😛

sorry for the confusion.

I was one of these people the first time around. yargh

I can't wait to hear from Penn. I thought I would hate them but I loved them. Only 2 months away 😀

Towelie, in case you didn't notice the last 200 posts, this thread is for people who have been kicked in the groin by Penn, not the ones who interviewed there and loved it. Don't kick us while we're down dude. You're just adding insult to the injury.

ok so after getting the deferred message, now it says "Your application continues to be reviewed but there is no change in your status. Reviews will continue until March 2007."

Did anyone actually get an interview invite after getting deferred then getting this message? Or is this the "sorry, still not interested" message?

That's what I've had for a few weeks now. I think it means "look forward to your rejection in March." But we can always hope otherwise!

Just called Upenn. They stopped giving out interviews. NYU has stopped this process too.

On my status page, I'm still listed under "Additional Application Progress" and it says in the description that reviews will continue until March 2007. Are these just meaningless words?

According to 12604077 (is that just your AMCAS number?), they are meaningless. We were pretty sure anyway that there was no hope left. Alas, there are many other fish in the sea... GL to all..

All mine says is "Application status: Interview completed." Anyone else have this? Does this mean they haven't even begun my review?

Congrats to all those getting interviews.

I joined the withdraw bandwagon...monthes ago...after the defer message. 😴

glck :luck:

Does anybody know how UPenn will notify applicants when the week of March 19th FINALLY rolls around? (snail mail? phone? email? online status change?)

I believe you can see your acceptance decision on the status page.

*sigh* I just finally completed my interview there and the week of March 19th already seems so terribly far away.🙁

Wait, March 19th? I thought it was March 5th😱 😕 . Crap, I've been telling everyone I know March 5th, and now I'll have to stave off a million questions then. Was it Duke that's March 5th?

I don't know... maybe it's different for MD? I just talked to one of the directors of the MD/PhD program and he mentioned that "Of course, decisions won't be mailed until mid/late March... around the 19th or so".

I'll see if I can't dig up info on their website somewhere.

I feel ya about the questions, though. I am so tired of family and friends asking me when I'll know where I'm going. I keep telling them March (maybe) but it still hasn't sunk in yet.

Yup... checked my status page and it says, "ALL ADMISSIONS DECISIONS WILL BE ANNOUNCED THE WEEK OF MARCH 19."

I like how it's all in caps. I guess they grew weary of antsy pre-meds such as myself calling their office every other day.
