i apply next year and so far my grades in the pre-reqs suck

Bio - C
Orgo 1 - C
Chem 1 and 2 - C+ and C+
Physics 1 and 2 - B+ and B-
labs for all the classes - B+ in chem 1 lab and A's in the rest

so u see, my BCP GPA is below a 3.0

over the summer i took 3 upper level courses
Genetics - A
Cell bio - B+
Immunology (online) - A

i'm gonna take biochem and microbio soon and if i get above B+'s in those upper level classes, will dental schools see that i have improved my grades in the 'harder' classes ??

i'm sure genetics, cell bio and immunology= bcp gpa

They definitely take it into consideration as you have shown that you are able to handle higher level Biology course.

If I were you, I would take a higher level Chemistry as well.

All that being Said, the bad marks from the first year are going to hunt you and your GPA during this process abit and it will be up to each individual university and how much they care about each single case versus a positive grow in the student's academic achievements.

i take it that you just finished your sophmore year and going into your junior year, right?

if that is the case then you still have 2 years to bring up your bcp gpa. i was in the same scenario, i didnt take college seriously my first year and had to make up for it later.

take classes like: physio, biochem, evolution, embryology, etc.

each of those upper level classes are 4+ credits and not easy. but if you do well they will really boost your gpa.

this isnt a joke, you've got this one shot and its up to you if you succeed or not. otherwise you'll be stuck having to do a masters or something and thats something you want to avoid having to do.

even with a sucky BCP GPA

my science gpa is 3.26 and overall gpa is 3.34

pretty average, my univ. lists biochem and physio. as 3 credit classes

If you were just not taking school seriously during Ochem, you could try doing Ochem II. And those upper levels should boost your BCP GPA if you get As. Out of my 60 hours of science, 54 counted towards BCP.
